💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Recommended Posts

OH my gosh..1 semi on topic post (from me): Was feeling really bad after the egg saga but still went with youngest daughter to Sam's as our heat index was like 110 and we've been trying to get together a few times a week to walk.

We walked for about 1 hr and 45 mins. She really has to stop to see everything. I take off with the cart, holding my Water and my 10 lb purse..and I've warned her that it actually hurts me knee and back more to stand in one place for too long...plus I want a more forceful walk effort..

B-Side Question:

What was the best compliment you ever received?

I heard from a mutual friend that my friend who is really intelligent, told them I was the smartest person they ever met. I was stoked (even though it's not true hahaha)

It's Totally true Dr. Ummyasmin 💜

Checking in ...

Weighed in at 126.6 this morning. So happy I have some cushion to stay under 130.

Walked 1+ miles 10/12 days (thanks airports, trade show, and bar hopping 😂)

10, 11 & 12 - smiling + music + dance party

Went dancing Friday and Saturday night so I think I covered all of those bases 😁

Best compliment

Co-worker / good friend, whom is gorgeous and has very high standards in women, tells me in his southern drawl "Damn girl, you look amazing! You must have lost 30 lbs!" (I had lost 80 at that point)

It must have felt amazing !

Best Compliment: hmmm, professionally: "You are the best doctor I've ever had the opportunity to meet". Didn't do anything special, just listened 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Personally: My kids do tell me they are happy I am their mommy...inspite of my happy dance this morning [emoji5][emoji5]

I bet you are a great listener, and totally appreciated.

So, had a rest day yesterday. I thought about doing a Body Groove work out as that could've counted as a dance party but didn't. Does my wagging my butt at someone count? I was imitating the puppy, lol.

I went to the gym this morning and did the 35 minutes of cardio. I don't see me listening to a podcast anytime soon. Nothing against them but so many other things have priority.

Happy Tuesday!

I (re)discovered podcasts last month and have been listening to them compulsively. Dr Death was scary but Man in the Window had me freaking out when I listened to it driving home in the dark one night.

One year ago today! I hoped I would reach 140, I thought my current weight 129-130 was too much of a stretch goal. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I know the hard part will be over the next few years. I feel like I’m educating myself and preparing for what lies ahead.

I have an appointment with the personal trainer late afternoon. I’m certain I’ll meet the 35 minutes of cardio! The gym has a really nice private steam room so I might indulge in that afterwards. I have been listening to the podcast My Favorite Murder. I love morbid stuff if I’m not involved.

I didn’t go to the arcade zone yesterday, my son had plans. Womp womp.

Just goes to show, you never know how good a few kind words might make someone feel!!

I am known in my family for being a terrible liar. It's so bad that when my daughter wanted to come to a movie with me she was about 6 months too young to get into, she didn't want me to open my mouth to answer if we got asked how old she is.

Update: Personal trainer did not kill me but I’m pretty sure he tried. I was d.y.i.n.g. after awhile I said, “Do you expect this much out of every almost 60 year old person? “ (Ok, I’m 58 but I wanted him to feel bad for me) I got a new compliment today. First he thought I was joking, then realized I wasn’t . He apologized and said he honestly thought I was 45 and reduced the crazy amount of weight he was expecting me to lift.

Maybe he was blowing smoke up my ..., who knows.

I don’t look like I’m 45, ok maybe a rough 45 year old. My neck looks 80.

Best lie... I don’t lie very often because I could never keep track, but I love a good prank. I convinced a friend in high school that Jimmy Carter was my Grandfather. He was running for president and I was bored. I told her the truth the following day.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
