JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Recommended Posts

For reflux... the only thing that helped me is Prilosec ... It comes in a capsule... I emptied the insides in my juice.

The story I was told.... Your tummy is confused it is still making enough acid for the big tummy....

I took 2 a day.

Walk walk walk,,.. and make those sips tiny tiny... I could only wet my tounge and drip down for almost half day... it will first there...but every drip counts!
A reflusk your doc about Gas X strips.

Hey everyone! I was sleeved July 11 and my Dr also repaired a hiatel hernia!! I'm in no pain from sleeve but more from my esophagus where hernia was repaired! I cant keep NO Protein shakes down at all! Just apple juice, ice chips, Jello and broth! I feel like crap bc i do feel hungry from not getting Protein in! It hurts when i sip on anything, its terrible!! All i want is mashed potatoes something to quench my craving:( Any one else have this? I also have blurred vision, unsure if its from being cooped up inside since Fri!! I'm regretting this a bit :(

The massive gas pain in my chest is killing me. I can't even come close to getting enough liquids in because every sip feels like a massive heart attack! Tomorrow is my one week post op date. I hade the hernia repair, that as I have been reading, leads to this misery! PLEASE TELL ME HOW LONG IT WILL FEEL LIKE THIS!

With all the issues people are having, I should feel happy... No pain, no heartburn, spasms....no problem drinking or getting Protein in. Still on liquid diet and having less than 500 calories a day and only losing a couple of lbs since surgery...2 weeks post surgery today... I'm very disappointed. Even without walking or not getting enough Water (which I am) I should be losing weight. Worried it's my age... 52. I just don't get it at all. :(.

I've been very lucky/blessed since my sleeve on July 21. No pain, no nausea. I've lost 14 lbs since my initial consult on July 8 (but they didn't weigh me on surgery day). They took me off all HBP meds as my bp was 111/65. Also off all stomach meds unless I feel the need for them. I heard my personal thermostat would change but I did not expected to happen so quickly. I've always kept the air at 72 or 73 or 74. But now I'm keeping it at 77! Sometimes I do put the ceiling fan on but I never in 1 million years thought I would be keeping my thermostat at 77°!

Hi to all! I was sleeved on 7/21, did well and was released on the 22nd. Tolerating diet well so far, except for diarrhea which is becoming worse. Any ideas?

Have you tried removing the little strip behind your ear that they give you prior to surgery? That is what was causing my blurred vision, once I removed it, it eliminated the blurred vision issues within 24 hours.

Hang in there..I was EXACTLY where you were this time last week. Really discouraged, bloated and overall not feeling well. I was sleeved on 7/14. I lost 10 lbs during pre op. As of now I have lost a total of 25 lbs (including pre op lbs lost). I've dropped almost 2 dress sizes so I'm excited. The only issue I am having is that I am ALWAYS thirsty and I am so limited to what I can drink. I have not found anything that I really like to drink, does anyone have any suggestions?

I dieted pre-op and was constantly FREEZING. It has gotten worse post-op. Hubby hates to ride in the car with me because I forget to turn on the A/C -- and I live in the hot South. I sleep under 5 blankets and always have a sweater on. Oh well . . . I save on food AND electric bills. BONUS!

Hello All, Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't had surgery yet but I got a good feel of what the Gas pain was all about today, I had to go for an Upper GI and they pumped my stomach full of gas and needless to say my day hasn't been the best. It could have been worse but I felt it. :)

Hello! I was sleeved on July 17th, tomorrow will be my post op appointment and I pray the doctor will advance me to puréed foods. I can't stand one more Protein Shake. The pre made ones are horrible! I'm also ready for a different texture.

I'm so glad to see so many July Sleevers!

Just back from the hospital! Sleeved on July 28! Feel great, but learning to sip slooooowly. :) The first two days were a bit uncomfortable at times, but once I cleared the gas...I improved dramatically.

I hear you... My appoint was today and my diet was advanced. I have had a few things like the refried Beans which I like and some Soup pureed neither sat well, but they tasted so good. :) I just hope tomorrow goes better

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
