Weight loss and stalling

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm 6 months out. I've lost 100 pounds. I'm at a stalling point in my weight. Won't budge past 183. I've cut back since I knew I was eating alot due to stressful events in my life. I started on Protein I take my Vitamins. I would say that I am frustrated with my scale, but dang I've lost 100 pounds that's awesome!! Would like to aim for 150 in weight. That's my goal weight. But I'm happy with the success I've had!! :-)

Just look at all you have accomplished in 6 months! 100LBS, girl that is awesome!! Just clear your mind, try a Protein Shake week or a liquid diet week, see if that helps. I know stalls are frustrating, but they're gonna happen, just go with the flow, you've come so far.

From what I've been reading, stalls are totally normal, especially the closer you get to goal weight. Plus 100 down in six months is Fantastic and pretty fast! Keep up the good work :)

My surgeon says that stalls are a fact of life after WLS - the body loses weight and then stalls to adjust, then it goes back to losing weight, I am in a 2.5 week stall. At least my clothes fit for awhile. That is one benefit. Min thing to watch is to not fall back I to bad habits - just stay on the program and eventually the stall will pass.

so i think its important for everyone (i was guilty of freaking out about my stall as well =(. ) to remember that stalls really are part of WLS and they are a required thing. I think its easy to think of it like this: Lets say your running a marathon, after running (or in my case crawling) for 10 miles or so your not doing nearly the speed you were when you started right? You maybe stop, take a breather and rest up a moment. Then your recharged and ready to take on another 10. Your body needs the same break as your metabolism catches up to the new weight and requirements your body has.

Think about the changes that are going on inside your body. You are not just losing weight. Your losing body mass. This is great however it also means that everything is changing. your Fluid volume needs are less now, your preload and afterload (forces your heart pumps against) are different. Heck even the hormone levels in your body have to be adjusted. These stalls happen and are a GOOD thing.

So lets look at what happens when you have stalled for 2 weeks and your ready to jump back on the losing bandwagon. Switch it up. Lets say you have been walking 1 mile 3 times a week or maybe you have gotten complacent and are not walking much at all. Guess what? nows the time to start. Pick up your shoes and start walking. Increase your caloric burn and while your add it adjust your diet. Are you eatting enough Protein? If not your not doing yourself any favors. Same with adjusting how often you eat. BOOST your metabolism!!! Grab a yogurt in the morning, walk in your favorite mall and grab a new pair of shoes because you deserve it. Holy crud you just did 10 laps in the mall and you found a TO DIE FOR shirt on sale at JCPenny's!! Now hit up the house and grab a high Protein snack! mix up your routine to "trick" your body into getting back on the losing track. Remember that stepping on the scale every day is not a good thing for you! Stay off it for a few days (like 7) and then give it a shot. Also remember to weight yourself at the same time. I do it after my morning shower while i am /cough naked /cough and usually around the same time. This way i have a more accurate assessment of how i am doing.

Last but not least, Celebrate where you are. You have come so far, and you will continue to go farther. Love who you are and the friendships you have developed.

I haven't lost any weight in a year. I lost 100 pounds then stopped. I have a lot of medical issues because of the surgery and when they started I stopped losing. I walk, and ear right, and exercise and still nothing. It is so hard not to give up.

ok so glad I found this site I had surgery 11/19/12 and have lost 44 lbs and have hit my first stall and am hating it but am glad that it is normal was scaring myself thinking something was wrong, I have been walking daily since surgery and working out 2 times a day since got the all clear at 5 weeks ago so I have been expecting it. The greatest feeling was cleaning my closet this weekend and having 3 bags of clothes to big for me to give away. yipppeeeeee

Dstollery is so right I'm almost 5 months post op and my birthday is Monday and I wanted to be 250 but my body had a different ideal. I've been in a stall for 3 weeks, so I started calling the doctor, crying saying I'm doing everything I should whats going on.

So I upped my intensity at the gym and finally I broke through the stall. Thank god

I also think when we finally relax about everything the stalls break. I realized when I stalled that I was still losing inches. Also a I begin to increase my workouts I am building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Your body is doing exactly what it needs to in order to lose the weigh and get you healthy. Relax and stay off the scale!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
