1st off, I guess I need to take a pregnancy test b/c I am not officially one week late. I hope it's just my body reacting to the stress of surgery b/c me, nor my doc, would be too thrilled about getting pregnant immediatley after my band surgery. Also, today my tummy is making all kinds of growling noises but I ate Breakfast anbd I'm not hungry. What's that about? Lats but not least, what's the deal with salad. Some people say they can eat it, some say they can't, someone even said no raw veggies for 6 months!!! On Friday I can start eating "normal" food and of course I am craving a salad - the one thing I don't think I can have 3 weeks out! What's the consensus on sa…

I was skeptical about it at first because I want to have a baby and am undergoing fertility treatments now but they say I will not need them if i get the weight off. So I guess I will go through with it. Melanie

I was banded on August 1st. I'm averaging about a 1 pd a week. I remember the doctor saying that after banding you should be consuming about 1 cup of food at each meal. I'm eating more than 1 cup that's for sure. Should I be concerned about that? I've already had a fill two weeks ago. I'm only now starting to feel a difference in how much I can eat comfortably BUT it still is more than 1 cup. (Is that normal? Too feel restriction days and days after a fill?)

PMS Cravings (and Erin didn't help) took away my chips. Yesterday the table by my office (that I have to pass 95 times a day) was loaded with Halloween goodies. I caved. Feeling crappy, my car practically drove itself to Roberto's (authentic, huge Mexican.) Feeling full and disgusted, I ate Cookies with juice before bed. This morning had cookies and chips instead of a Protein shake. PMS to me is like a giant magnet sucking me down into the gutter. They don't serve lean Proteins and veggies in the gutter, either.

Is the band more like a diet aid. i've been researching this thing for a year and it just kind of "lightbulbed" in my head. It facilitates diets right? you still have to eat right, you still have to count your calories, but it gives you that added edge. instead of fighting the urge to eat bc you are famished, you feel full faster. So i still can't have those cheese puffs and hamburger but now I can have a slice of pizza and not go reaching for another. Or am I all mixed up?

Did anyone see the lap band story on CNN this morning? The reporter actually held the lap band up and explained (albeit briefly) how it worked. Unfortunately, it was lumped in with story about complications from bypass surgery. The ticker at the bottom of the screen did say AGB was safer than bypass (which we all know!). Maybe this will help get the work out about the band. Rhonda Dr Lopez 3/10/05 221/190/140 5/7/05 First Fill 2.2cc 10/7/05 2nd Fill 1.00cc

If U freeze for icee all carbonation leaves. From my understanding it is the carbonation that causes problem. And of course having soda should be long after surgery. A

I read Obesity help.com and bandster websites and see ppl who got the surgery and chronicled their weight loss for a little bit and then just stopped journaling. I wonder what happened to these ppl. Did they succeed or fail? I like to think that they all succeeded and are living their best life away from a computer. I guess the ppl who failed would be way more adamant about telling the world that this isn't the cure they thought it would be. Just a thought.

I don't know where this will show, if it's local only or not, but I am currently watching the news and they are talking about having a new warning about the risks for gastric bypass surgery. I will post what they have to say after the report is given, but the way they're presenting it's not a positve report, but who knows with the media. It may be information we are already familiar with, I don't know, but I'll keep you posted. By the way, I am in Miami, FL, if anyone is in that news area it's being shown on Channel 4, CBS. Cindy

I have recently had a fill and am still getting used to it and a lot of foods are getting stuck at the band site. I had chicken get stuck and I felt the stuck part like normal, but then I felt like my heart was beating around my band. Like my esophagus was convulsing to get the food through. I finally just let it come back up and it stopped. I have never felt this in the past and wonder if anyone else has gone thru this also? I just knew my band was going to come flying out of my chest the way it felt. Any thoughts?

Hi everyone, I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was banded on 7/29/05 in Monterrey, Mexico by Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. Insurance denied coverage of my surgery, so since I had to pay out of pocket I went to Mexico where it was less expensive. I went to a local surgeon yesterday for a fill. I was chastised for going to Mexico. This doc was real "sour grapes". I got a lecture on why American docs are resentful of us going to Mexico for our surgery and then coming home and expecting the local doc to take care of us. I nicely explained to him that it was strictly a matter of money. He suggested I could have saved the extra money. I then told him, yes, but I work for the…

I just love reality tv and weight loss so this show makes me super happy. BUT I wanted to note for those of us that complain about our slow weight loss or those of us that may have expectations that are not inline with reality. T The people on this show have trainers and work out all day long and (for woman in particular) they almost never lose more than 5 pounds and more often lose about 3. This was a reality check for me. My expectations are WHACK! Happy Tuesday!

Is it referring to people who had the band removed and are now getting it replaced? Or is it people who have not been as rigorous as they would like ith their diet, and are starting over w/ good eating habits? I see it in siggys - just wondering. All this terminology is new to me (but I've been studying the list rigorously!)

Is it the weight you were last comfortable at? Is it something you pulled from a medical chart? Is it something your doc told you? Is it a guess? Is it a number you have in your head because that's where you think you want to be? Are you not going by weight, but instead going by size, or "when I feel good", or something a little more arbitrary? Just wondering.

Since then though, I've had a hard time with anything other than liquids. Sticking mostly to Water, fresh veggie juice and Soup, but even that I'm not getting down too well. I'm really confused! I hear and read over and over that lapband patients can expect to lose 50% - 75% of their excess weight. Why isn't it 100%? What factors is that including? Is that "given no lifestyle changes other than those caused by the band directly?" I'm sure there's a simple answer, but I'm just not getting it. As long as you're burning more calories than you're consuming, you will lose weight... so why are the lapband stats so relatively low? In other words -- help me see the factors that play into those numbers. It takes an equal amount of 0s and 100s to equal 50%, so what "pulls down" the average? Sorry - I'm way too analytical for my own good, and…

I was eating some mashed up meatloaf and mashed potatoes and one bite seemed to go down weird and ever since then I've felt tightness in my chest and somewhat of the "golfball" feeling and a sore throat. But I didn't get any slimes. Can you get stuck and not have slimes? I am so paranoid about slippage that I just had to ask this question. Anyways, I am going to go all liquid tomorrow for sure!
