Hi All, Well, I made the mistake of sharing with my family that I'm scheduled with Dr. Kuri on 4/18 for the lap-band. (I should have known better). All I got was how stupid I am, why should I go to Mexico, I'm probably going to die, Try my Dr so and so, he did my belly lipo last year etc... I was really sure that I was doing the right thing. Based on my research on the web, especially on this site, Dr Kuri is a good choice. He has a lot more experience than a number of the Dr's in the US, plus his cost are much more doable. Hello! I had the surgery on June 2 with Dr Kuri in TJ. You have probably heard it before but he is beyond fantastic. Just went down to get my first fill with him and everything was great. I do want to see if I can find a doctor closer to home for fills though for convenience. Does anyone know of a doctor in MA or New England even that will do fills for Mexican banded patients? I called the doctors office today,THEY FORGOT ABOUT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! they have'nt sent anything into insurace, i've been going insane for about two weeks waiting for today(doctors office told me to call)Now i have to start all over again......................I'm so saddddddddddddddddd and P.O'd, I'm going to a different doctor(i'm such a baby)

Received my bill yesterday! That is how much my band cost with the hospital bill included! I work at the hospital so our insurance pays 90% of the entire bill. I am only out of pocket about $1,346. I can pay this on a payment plan through our hospital . they will automatically deduct it from each paycheck however much I want them to. I am so Happy! God looked out for me with this band and I think I was destined to get it. Just thought I would share!

I have went done alot of searching online and have the names of a few doctors but would like anyones personal opinion on thier doctor in st. louis or close by.. so far the two doctors I have leaned towards are J. Stephen Scott MD FACS and Roger A. De La Torre MD both operate out of Midwest Bariatric Center and depaul hospital which is just a few minutes from my house.

Wondering if anyone has used him and can give some feedback on your experience.

I will maybe be relocating to Illinois soon from Ohio and want to find a Dr. there who does lap-band to continue my care with. Do any of you know anyone to suggest. Thanks, Nancy

I am "just looking" and have been researching this for quite some time. I finally talked to my husband aout it and attended a seminar in my hometown just yesterday. I am looking for people who have used doctors in the Little Rock, AR, Texarkana, TX, and Dallas areas. My husband works for Wal-Mart who won't pay for weight loss surgeries so I will have to finance this somehow (my husband is an "anti-charge and pay cash for everything" kind of guy). Hello There, Has anyone had any experience with Dr. Rumbout in Monterey, Mexico? I feel pretty good about my decision to have the surgery on Thrusday, August 11th. Any input will help.

I used Dr. de Bruyne in Brussels Belgium and was very happy with his work. It was only 5 thousand for the banding and 2000 for my travel costs...Plus I liked the idea of having surgery done more in EU than in Mexico but that was just me... 4 weeks out and I have lost 23 pounds since my first consulation weigh in...very happy.

I am just starting down the road to getting banded. Went to my pcp and she said "Just go to WW" but that isn't stopping me. There are several doctors in Dallas who do the surgery but I have no way of deciding who to choose or how to go about it. I have my list of questions. Anybody have any experiences to share of hints?

Hi all, Just wanted to share. I got a copy of the hospital bill sent to the insurance company from my surgery and it was $54,000 !!!!! This was for the lapband and a one night stay. I was pre-approved, so I'm hoping the insurance company will cover it. I'm just praying there is no mistake and I get that bill in the mail!

Can anyone tell me if my significant other will be allowed to spend the night at the hospital with me? I don't know if the hospitals are usually strict about visiting hours. I am going to be having the surgery with Obesity Goodbye. Even if you had your surgery elsewhere, let me know how it was for you, to give me some idea of how the hospitals work down there. I went to Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax Virginia. If you need a hospital I recommend Fair Oaks because the staff was absolutly amazing. From my appointments, test, surgery, recovery, to my overnight stay, everything was great. My prep nurse for surgery was the nicest, funniest women. My recovery nurse a male, Allen to be exact was marvelous. I did not have to touch a cup while in recovery. Everytime I opened my eyes Allen was there with an ice chip on a spoon. When I had to go to the bathroom, pushed my bed over to the bathroom and had someone to help him help me in. I'm in love. My room nurses were amazing. I used Dr. Hagood in Dallas, Texas for my surgery. He is the best in my opinion. Dr. Maese referred me to him. He has great bedside manner and was very attentive to my needs. He took his time when visiting with me and answered every question I had to throw at him. I will have my first fill with Dr. Maese on Monday, August 8th and I can’t wait. Dr. Maese is the best too. Hi everyone! Well, I have made the decision that the lapband is for me, but now I am having trouble deciding who/where I should go to have it done. I am self-pay, so I will be going to Mexico....I have tried to follow the advice to have someone in my area for follow up care, but I keep getting the run around...they want me to have the surgery BEFORE they will commit to doing any follow up...I live in MIssouri and the only DRs I have found are 3 hours away....I wouldn't mind going back to TJ for refills...and I plan to stay about 6 weeks in San DIego after the surgery (my family lives there), so if there are problems I guess I can go to by surgeon.....??????????????????…

Dr. Pleatman performed my surgery in March, and I would recommend him to anybody interested in WLS. He is a laproscopic specialist who started performing WLS in July 2002. He is located in Birmingham, Michigan and operates out of North Oakland Medical Center. He accepts insurances but charges $3500 to each patient. That money covers any expenses not covered by insurance, all fills, and any follow up work such as port repairs etc. It's kind of like "give once for good". I'm considering using Dr. Rambaut in Monterey. I've heard only good stuff about him except he's a little more expensive than some of the others. Has anyone had any bad experiences with him? I am having my first consultation tomorrow with Dr. David Geller of Louisville, KY and I was wondering if anyone has used him before or heard anything about this doctor. I have asked around the hospital and heard good things but no one that has had the surgery. Due to an ongoing contract dispute with Blue Cross Blue Shield a decision has been made to opt out of the network. This means as of August 15, 2005 we will no longer be accepting the Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance for consultations, Lap-Band surgery or fills. I want to be banded. I don't want to wait for insurance to cover it as I am not sure they even will, I am 5'2, 191lbs. I am not sure if that is obese enough to get banded through insurance. So I am going to pay for it out of pocket but I am a little freaked about going to Mexico ( I would have to go alone).
