I used Dr. Joya for my surgery who offered an all inclusive package that I found to be very affordable. It included roundtrip air to Puerto Vallarta, one of Mexico's finest hospitals, the San Javier Marina Hospital, and even a stay in a 5 star Beach resort. Dr. Joya has helped me lose a lot of weight. He is very professional and he basically was just plain awesome! Check out his website or e-mail me if you have any questions about using him for your doctor. http://www.drjoya.com Jaxson Lee

Hi! Has anyone out there on this board been banded in MA? I am considering having the surgery, but am unsure where to go. UMASS in Worcester has a long long process to go through (something like 7-9 months), but is close to home for me. Beth Israel Deconess in Boston has a shorter wait, but a longer hospitalization and is further away. Any input, anyone??

Help! My mom thrives on medical things and feeling like she is the expert of everything. Today she called and informed me that she is going to sit at the hospital full time when I am there in case I am a bleeder and then they will need her immediately. Can anyone tell me what a bleeder is? I am assuming that she thinks I would need blood transfusions and she would be the one to approve them. Is that right? Or does she need have a need to feel needed (recently widowed)? Thanks for any info.

A local dr who started performing bariatric surgery 1 year ago (has done 50) started lap band surgery in March. The cost is $12,500 cash (my insurance won't pay). I think this is a good price but should I be concerned about the lack of experience. They all have to learn sometime - right? Any opinions are appreciated.

Has anyone here used Dr. Rumbaut? I was researching facilities and to be honest have become a little concerned about going under in Mexico if it's not a legitimate hospital. It appears that Dr. Rumbaut operates out of something closer to an American style hospital. He also works out of Paris in a Hospital there- I might feel more comfortable going to Europe than Mexico to have this done...does anyone have any suggestions or comments on this?

I woke up perplexed regarding Mexican surgeons and Inamed. Last weekend another Lopez patient lost her Band, so Penni contacted Inamed for answers, and she received this e-mail from Inamed. “As well as I have complete confidence in Dr Lopez and his team with myself and family members. All people of all occupations have events that are not perfect. I am sure you have had them as well. His results are at the highest levels in the world and his complication rates at the lowest. I am sorry your own and a few others you have spoke with have not been what you want. Please keep in mind there are Thousands of successful surgical patients of Dr Lopez out there.” Larry Kuri, …

Im 365miles away from them and He has done everything to make it seem like im next door. If I have a question I email him and he calls me back right away even if he leves a message he will still call back making sure I understand and that he just talks to me. I couldnt ask for better service. I get so much information on LBT and anything I question I ask... every Dr. is diffrent and I go by what my Dr. wants and its nice to know Dr. Smith and Cameron are there for me! So if anyone …

hey everyone =). Im finally after 4 years of trying, getting my surgery. I am both scared and excited. The only thing saving my sanity is the fact that my partner got banded by the same facility (obesity goodbye and dr Ponce de leon and verboonen) and had no complications. Still, I can't help but think I will be one of the unlucky ones. I have been reading over alot of the posts here, and I say thank you. If it had not been for alot of you posting your personal experiances here, my partner wouldn't have had it done and nor would I. Its good to hear both the risks and the sucesses (though extremely saddened by the people going through problems.) Wish me luck please. -Ke…

I was recently banded in Belgium buy an excellent surgeon named Dr. Chris DeBruyne. I felt I received excellent care in the hospital there and could not have asked for a more positive "banding" experience. Most everyone in the hospital spoke much better English than I expected and I was treated with the utmost care while in the hospital. The cost for my surgery was 4,000 Euros about $5,500 US dollars. I can't say enough about how wonderful my care was in this particular hospital and how happy I am to have Dr. DeBruyne as my surgeon. I had very little postop pain, very little gas pain and was walking around Brussels the next day with my husband. I was amazed at how q…

I am in the Chicagoland area and and starting to look for a weight loss practice. There are tons of advertisements for the WISH center. Anyone have any experience with them? I took the online seminar friday and they seem to have a good program going with lots of follow-up group meetings and they want everyone that is operated on to be totally educated about the process and the after surgery routine. They also seem to have good success with insurance companies. But I want to know about bedside manner and the competence of the doctors. They have stat for bariatric surgery but it says stats pending for lapband. Any info, or other surgeon suggestions would be great~Mandy

I went to inamed.com to do a surgeon locator and it won't let me without a username and pw. Okay, so I have to fill out a questionaire. But then I fill it out and they say "you don't qualify based on your entries". ummm, yes I do and I am getting the surgery in 5 days. I just want a list of inamed surgeons in Phoenix Arizona. Can someone who already has a user name and pw look it up and give it to me in a PM? Thanks bunches!

I just got back from seeing Dr. Hunky er, Dr. Billy today. According to his scales I weigh 241.5 lbs. WHOO HOO!! He is very pleased with my results thus far. They did a cool H. Pylori test on me while there to rule out that I have that nasty little bug. I am negative for it. Thank goodness. I told him about me doing the 5K and he was very impressed. He told me that about 2% of the population actually do a Marathon of any kind and to participate in one is very impressive. I am proud of myself for doing it. I wanna run the 5K next year. Anyway, I get labwork drawn with my next visit which will be in May cause it will be past my year bandiversary.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any doctors here or in Mexico that will give a discount for paying cash? Any places here in the southeast that perhaps give a discount for cash payments? Just trying to figure out how close I am to getting surgery. Did our taxes and was very pleasantly surprised, so I am getting excited knowing that I'm getting closer and closer! If you don't want to post the answers here, you can email me at backbite at gmail dot com. Thanks!

You will need to bring all your info from MX(surgery transcript?) and fill out their paper work. 20 page history info. Hi, I am about to be banded on January 28 2005. I am so excited! I feel I am getting a real chance in fighting and winning my battle with obesity. I am 5 foot 3 and weigh 231 lbs. I feel this is going to save my life! With that said, I am also scared out my mind. I am going to Mexico to have an operation because my insurance here in the US won't cover it and it's too expensive out of pocket. Does anyone know this doctor? I found him on the site of litenfree.com. The surgery will be perform at the OCA hospital in Monterray. Thanks
