Hi, My name is Lori and I was banded by Dr. Michael Johnell at Northern Colorado Medical Center on Feb 15th. This was an amazing experience that I do not regret. The entire staff has been great and the hospital is top notch. I went into the surgery with alot of positive motivation. I was told to lose 10% of my weight overage which was 16# and ended up losing 19#. This was to help in removing some excess fat around the organs making it easier to do the surgery. At the time of surgery I weighed 277 and am already down to 262. I feel good generally speaking but am having some problems with constipation. I need to focus on my water/fluids to help with that. I am exercising e…

Hello everyone.... I guess I'm amazed at what I've read thus far on this site. It truly has been a great source of information and inspiring news. I want to thank everyone here for the postings, both good and bad. They are, at times, challenging, yet constructive towards my journey of better health. I've been through tests and preparation work, but yet to receive a clearing from my insurance company or a date or surgery. Keep your fingers crossed! I'm amazed by the many people I talk to about weight and food issues. After attending pre-support meetings I know that I'm just like everyone else sitting in the room. We have so much in common. And, in reading this forum, I …

I had the lapband surgery on December 18, 2006. I went for my third fill today. I lost 5 lbs between the first and second fill and only 2 lbs this time. I was really expecting the weight to come off faster. Is it just because we have not found the "right" adjustment yet. I need some encouragement!! I go to the support group meetings and I hear all the stories of losing 100 lbs in 6 or 8 months! There is even one lady who is three months out and has lost 68 lbs. Is something wrong with me - will this weight ever come off??? I am so anxious.

I am very excited about my upcoming surgery. My doctor has his patients begin protein shakes 4 weeks out. For 2 weeks I am allowed only 1 meal a day and 2 protein shakes. Then at 2 weeks prior to the date, the all liquid diet begins. I am really hungry, but the excitement outweighs (no pun intended!) the hunger pains. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

I've already started the pre surgery diet (just because I wanted to get started--the doc didn't request that I do until 10 days before but I feel silly just sitting around waiting to lose weight)--anyway I've already lost nine pounds in the first week! I know it's mostly water but I havn't seen the scale respond like that for years!:clap2:

I'm a mom, grandma, and wife who has weighed over 250 for about 18 years. I'm 48 and now weigh 265. I chose that lap band because I don't want to be unhealthy when I loose weight. I want to continue getting all my nutrients from the things I consume. I have several co-morbidities such as, diabetic for the last 15 years, high blood pressure, proteinuria, probably sleep apnea, (haven't been tested yet), high cholesterol (when I don't take meds) to name a few. I'm really tired of taking meds and I realized that I could stroke out, or have a heart attack or something and I want to be around for my kids and my grandkids. So that is the gist of my reasoning for the surge…

I've been looking through the site and it looks like I can expect some port site soreness and shoulder pain due to gas?? For those of you who have had to get on a plane 4-5 days after surgery, how bad was the travel home??? I am very excited but as the date draws so much closer I'm starting to get butterflies. Also, does anyone know of a US doc who does fills in Northern California?

The surgery is not scheduled yet, but my insurance has approved it. I'm excited to read everyone's results. Some of you loose quickly and some not so quick. I wonder which way I will go. I've been battling with mononucleosis since December and hope this won't hinder an earlier surgery date. Hi, I call myself the lapbandit because thanks to the lapband I literally stole back my life from the wretched claws of morbid obesity. Obesity had me in its grasp. Pulling me slowly but surely in a downward spiral to my pre-mature death. Why? You ask. Simply because I was suffering diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, and plantar fascitis and on top of all diseases my low self-esteem and depressive swings were making everything worse. One day while talking to a friend, who had undergone lapband surgery in Mexico, I heard the name Dr. Gonzalez. I contacted Dr. Gonzalez and within 20 min. of speaking with Dr. Gonzalez I knew he was the surgeon for the job. His affable pers…
