I was banded on Wednesday the 17th. As of this morning I have lost 31 pounds since starting my 10 day pre op liquid diet. Most of the pain is gone but I am super nausious all the time! When is this gonna end or what can I do to make the sickness go away. Blah!

After just a short time at this site I'm rethinking my decision to be banded. I'm very glad I did not mail my nonrefundable $500 deposit! I've been to quite a few seminars and none of them do the sleeve. Based on the information I was hearing, I'd decided on the band. But now that I've read the details here, this sounds exactly like what I want. Basically, I just want a fighting chance. I know that without my stomach being made smaller in some way, I can lose the weight but will always gain it back. The gastric bypass is just too harsh in terms of robbing your body of nutrients. (my opinion) The band has a lot of maintenance and I really worry that I'll los…

I have been scheduled for surgery on 6/26 since way back in March. Tuesday I met with the surgeon for my pre-op consult. Yesterday the Dr. office called and asked if I want to do it THIS friday!!! Of course I said yes - I can't wait. So, the plan has been put into action a week early. I'll post again on Saturday when I get home.

I am so nervous about getting the lap band. I just had my 1st appointment with the surgeon and he wants me to loose about 15 pounds or more before he decides when my surgery date will be. I have been over weight my whole life and I really don't see another way but to do this. I know once I start loosing weight I will get more excited but right now I guess I am unsure. How many of you feel like you made the right decison? Does anyone regret doing it?

Hi Everyone! I am pre-op, 11 days before surgery! I am having my surgery at NYU with Marina Kurian, so I am really excited. I've been on the liquid diet for about 4 days now...and it's been tough, but I am sticking it through because I know it will all be worth it in the end. I would love to hear from anyone who has had the procedure at NYU, and how you felt about it afterward! Or really anyone who has had lap-band and how you felt the week after surgery! Thanks, Tina

Hello all! How great to find a place for support like this! I should have been looking sooner. I had my lap-band surgery two years ago this past April and lost 50 pounds in the first year. I was traveling extensively between Kuwait and England (I'm an American expatriate) about 9 months after my surgery and literally had no time to get fills. So my loss slowed to a crawl that second year. I have only lost 15 pounds since that first 50 (total 65). While I was in England, I was very physically active (averaging 7 miles a day walking) and was feeling great and getting into really good shape. But...once I got back to Kuwait, my exercise regime fell to pieces and I co…

Hi everybody! I am a little nervous, but looking forward to a life-changing experience! I kind of "stumbled" onto this site and have lurked a bit. I plan on contributing more after the surguery, but reading about your experiences has made me feel a little less apprehensive about the procedure! My fear is that my little "hunger-demon" will outwit the band!!! Thanks, Sue

I met with my surgeon and dietician today, and because I'm doing self-pay, I can pretty much go on to schedule the surgery after I have the psych eval, so YAY! Unfortunately, I couldn't get an appointment with the psychologist until July 20! I need to be up and running by Aug 1 because of things I've got going on, so I was seriously upset with that date. I asked to be put on the cancellation list in case I could get an earlier date. On my way home, I got a call that someone had canceled for July 9. About an hour later, I got another call that someone canceled for June 23, so I took it! I'm super excited. My husband and I have started to tell some members of his f…

My story is pretty simple. About 6 years ago I found myself stepping on the scale and weighing 297lbs. I was horrified! Until I married I had never gone over 140lbs, but I had 3 little boys back to back and was on bedrest with each one. I got used to being lazy and obviously gained ALOT of weight. Anyways, I decided I was going to lose some weight before I hit 300lbs, if I could not then I would get gastric bypass, but I did not want to do this yet. I cut back on portions and got more active, after 3 years I had lost about 90lbs. Cut to present day 3 years and another child later (this time a little girl) and I am still right around 210lb. Knowing that I have sta…

This is my first step in learning more about whether Lap-Band is right for me. It has taken a few months of discussion with my DH to get him to support me, and he's still not 100%...but he's getting there. Hopefully, this meeting will help answer questions that we both have. I am 38, I live in Houston with my husband and two lovely daughters, who are 4 and 15 months. They keep me very busy. I have never been a skinny girl, but I've always been tall. I am 5'11". I weighed 150 at 15, 170 at 23, and continued to gain throughout my life, with the last few years being the worst. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2002. Severe. I had a TSH of 125. My weight at th…

well, i have finally gotten the approval from the insurance company to get banded. from what i am hearing from my doctor's office, i think the date might be July 21st. will see him on the 6th for further details... thanks for all the useful info that i have been reading from everyone that has already been banded. i am looking for anyone that might have been banded by Kettering Bariatrics in OH to see how their experience went.

Well, I thought I might post my story- Like many, I have always been overweight. Both of my parents are heavy, so I got the genes good. I was rear-ended 4 years ago, and I ballooned upwards because of the time in bed. I have tried to get the weight off by dieting, but I end up starving all the time, and weirdly obsessed with food. So I started kicking surgery around a few years ago, but the RNY just seemed too radical for me, and because of my profession (horse trainer) the band just seemed risky. So I never acted on it. But I was looking into it again and I came across the sleeve, and I knew instantly that this was the surgery for me. So now I just have to s…

:blushing: I just want to say congratulations to all of us to chose to do something different to better ourselves. The actions, reap the same results. And, now, there is no excuse. We are going to make this lapband work for us. My name is Marquia, I'm a 30 year old black female, and I am a new mother of two (Zaire 3, and Lyric 2). I have genetics against me because of racial statistics and my family history. I want to loose weight. I started this journey just a few short months ago by going to the informational seminar. Obviously, I made the 1st step of signing up for the surgery. My starting weight was 354 in April. As of today, June 17th, 2009, I am weighin…

Hi! My name is Tammy. I'm a 37 year old mom of three and part time pastry chef. I know, I know!!! Challenges abound for me:) I recognize several people from OH here - yay! Next week is my 1 year surgiversary and I am so happy I had the sleeve! I still need to lose about 25 lbs to be at the weight I'd like to be but I have been so happy to have lost 61 lbs so far. I have let myself get into some of my old habits of not tracking what I eat and I do struggle with my carb intake. Professionally my cake business has been booming and some really great opportunities are before me but it's meant lots of recipe testing and tons of baking and I have yet to find the balance I n…

Hi everyone. I had my sleeve done on the 20th April 2009, in Brisbane Australia. I have had a fairly rough trott. The first couple of weeks were good, I got thru clears and fluids ok, just as I was about to make the transition to solids, I started to be sick. I would vomit first thing in the morning, and then feel sick all day, sometimes vomiting at night too. I went to see my surgeon and he said it was most likely because I wasn't taking anything for reflux, he hadn't told me to, so I didn't. Claims he told me that I should be taking nexium for 6 weeks post surgery:thumbdown:. Anyway I was still pretty sick, couldn't keep anything down, nothing appealed to me, and I got …

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I wanted to introduce myself. I go by LapGyrl (I didn't realize how terrible that sounded until it was already my user Id on several sites, lol :w00t:). I am 26 years old and I live in North Carolina. I want to get the LapBand...ASAP! I am pretty sure this is the type of bariatric surgery I need. I have yet to see a doctor because I am not insured. Hopefully my process will start soon. I look forward to participating in discussions and getting to know some of you guys. Later! :blushing:

Hello all, I am new here and getting pretty freaked out about my upcoming surgery. I have so many different feelings about it. Happy, excited, stressed, scared, anxious, and just plum freaking out. I know I am making the right choice. And I really think I was more freaked out about the fact that I am having to do an all liquid diet until my surgery. Did anyone else have to do this for 2 weeks pre op? Please let me know how you dealt with it. It's extremely hard and stressful.

Hi, I was banded this past Monday, June 8 in Edmond, Okla. I am very pleased with the surgery and after care. He did a great job! I arrived home home Tuesday evening and everyday I am stronger, despite the lack of food. lol I am on a Clear liquids only diet till the 22nd. Anyone else had to be on this for 2 weeks? I was also on it a few days before surgery. I have started experiencing headaches, dizziness, & fatigue. I am supposed to return to work on Monday & hoping I will be able to make it through the week.

I need this surgery done! I am sick of the yoyo ride and want to get off! I could care less what others think about my decision...all except one...my hubby is AGAINST it! He thinks I "am not ready" , or I'll "just gain the weight back", because I am not ready, and I guess if I was ready then I wouldnt need the surgery anyway cause I would loose weight on my own by "good healthy eating habits"! I am mad! One because he doesnt have faith in me..two because he is making me doubt myself, three cause what if the weight comes back cause "i am not ready"!!! Sorry for the emotional post, but I really could use any and all responses,,,,good or bad... Thanks all Leah

Hi to all! My first appointment with my surgery is this afternoon. I'm not sure what to expect. I think it will be going over paperwork, weighing and picture taking. I've already gone to a seminar a while back. I'm very excited..a little nervous. Reading all the posts is very helpful. It's great to be able to read about other peoples experiences. I kind of feel ashamed...like people will think I'm taking the "easy way out" instead of diet and exercise without surgery. So, I haven't told many people about it. Have any of you felt this way? Any advice on how to feel better about it? My family is super-supportive. They think it's the best idea ever. I've felt for a long time…

:w00t: Hey everyone!!! I've been checking out this board for a little while now, and now it's time for me to become a part of the posting! I had my Consult today in Jax, FL with Dr. Baptista. I have to do the 6 month supervised weight loss stuff prior to surgery due to my insurance (BCBS FL). So I have all of my appointments set for the next 6 months! My basics are... I'm 22, starting weight/BMI is 214.5/40.5 :blushing: I was VERY disappointed to hear that because I've just let myself go... but at the same time, VERY happy that I qualified for this surgery!

Hello All! I live in NC. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO insurance. I saw the doctor a couple of weeks ago due to pneumonia. He suggested that we talk about weight loss surgery and asked that I make an appointment for a physical. He said that we could talk about our options then. I have an appointment with my doctor on Monday to have the physical. After looking at information on this site I think that I am leaning towards going with a lap band. Can anyone offer me any advise on how to make the insurance process any easier. Just an FYI. I am 5'6" and weigh 250. My BMI is 41.8.

So glad I found this site. I have only just begun my journey and will be having my first appt with the nurse practitioner next week. My start weight is 255 and honest to God, I would be thrilled to get "out of the two's". I am not looking for rapid weight loss and at 57, I think the Lapband is the most practical solution for me. My surgeon is Dr. Cynthia Pacculli in Portsmouth, NH and although I haven't met her yet, I have heard wonderful things about her from the doctor that I work for. I wish everyone making this step in the direction of good health...all the best. My big concerns will be at about three months out from surgery, a typical amount of time that histor…

Got my 2nd fill yesterday. Dr. "raked me over the coals" for 15 min. I had gained 2 pounds. Implied he would take the band out...said I was wasting everyone's time. Be-littled me as much as he could while insinuating I was doing NOTHING towards my weight loss and he didn't know if he would give me my "adjustment" or not as it probably wouldn't do any good. He has never told me the size of my band or how much fluid he is inserting. I read on this forum somewhere that one of his patients asked and he wouldn't tell them this information so I have never asked. I was banded 3/17/09. I had lost 31 lbs. since one week prior to surgery until yesterday's weigh-in where I had gaine…

Howdy Y'all I was banded on 1/24/07 and so for I'm doing OK. I'm healing well and no longer in pain. However now I have feelings of doubt, failure and all kinds of other thoughts going through my head. I've lost 13lbs since my surgery but, to be honest i'm missing food so bad right now it's depressing. I don't know if i've done the right thing but, what's the alternative? Try yet another diet on my own, loose the weight and then gain it plus some back. What i'm looking for is people to share their success stories w/ me. I feel like it would keep me super motivated. I started my weight loss journey at 250lbs and now am 237lbs. So far i'm very pleased w/ the w…

Hi I am Chrissy and I am coming up on my 47th birthday, and to be honest for the last 21 years I have been happy being fat, but all that changed last year in May. I had a heart attack and it changed my world. For the first time I wanted to live. Really live. I have an 11 year old daughter to see grow up. I have been above 300 lbs, and last year I went to Simply for Life and had a weight lose of 30 lbs before I fell off the wagon. It was the first time I attempted a diet in my adulthood. So here I am 272 lbs, with a BMI of 42% with diabetes, high blood pressure, acid reflux, bad knees, sleep apnea and asthma! I had my first appointment with Dr. Sylvain Beausolei…

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Jana and I just found this site, love it. I just got my surgery date, it is July 24, 2009, I am so excited but also very very very scared. I have read many post on here from people stating that that band is not working, they dont feel any restriction, they feel sick, and some even are having regrets that they even did it. I guess for as many bad experience people have had, there are many many great ones. I am so looking forward to this change in my life, What is a normal day after surgery and back to solid foods, what can you eat and how much can you excercise?. Hello all! My name is Val and I live in Buffalo...and I am tired of being overweight. I am 6'1", and tipping the scales at 280. That would be awesome stats, if I was on the defensive line for the Bills. Instead, I am a bubbly blonde who is trapped inside her body. This is my first time reading over this site, and I have to say that I am inspired. I have been doing research, talking to family, friends and my doctor about Lap-Band, and have gotten sooo much feedback. Hi all, I'm new to this blog but not to lap-banding. I was banded in 2003 along with 4 of my sisters in Mexico - great surgeon, before they were doing them in the states. Two of the five of us have done great, lost 75 lbs and holding. But the other 3 are struggling, gaining weight incrementally, and i am the last of the 3 that have not regained all of my lost weight. Currently I am 15 (was 232 at banding) got down to 189 and now have trouble swallowing proteins, my band is loose but still have trouble with most foods. Wondering if it's slipped or some other issue?/ I've also developed an ulcer since the band. anyone else with similar issues and solutions???

My name is Linda, I'm 48 years old, 250 lbs, 5'6" and my surgery is scheduled for Thursday, June 25th at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL. Dr. Shanti Sarker will be performing the surgery. I go to the hospital tomorrow to do all my labs and pre-testing and then on Thursday I start the pre-op diet. I started this process in February 2008 and have been very focused and calm about everything, until this past Monday. I've been feeling anxious, can't concentrate at work and can't sleep. I'm thinking that it feels like maybe cold feet, except I don't have any doubts about having the surgery. Is this normal???
