SO... I had my surgery 5 weeks ago. In the first week I lost about 15 pounds and in the next 2 weeks my weight slowly came back as I was starting to eat solids. I got my first fill last Tuesday. They did it while I was under and xray and I swallowed barium. Initially they put 4cc's in the band and thought it would be tight based on the Xray so they left me with 2cc's. The next few days I was on liquids then soft solids, and I lost 6 pounds quick. I've slowly added the solids recently and I gained 6 pounds back!!! I'm just so frustrated. I know that when anyone is on a liquid diet they are going to lose weight right away, but I get my hopes up after losing a f…

Well my journey has begun. I was banded on 12/18/09! I am a 33 year old male from NJ. With 2 postponements because the Dr’s office did not inform me of their weight limit (300lbs). Yes, they have their own surgical suite in their building but you must weigh 300 lbs or less to have it done there. (That’s why it only cost $12,000, (I had to pay out of pocket) I lost 27lbs in 25 days. The worst part of all was I called a week after I made the surgery date to ask if I needed to diet prior to surgery. I was told no, just no big meals 3 days before surgery and eat lite the days leading up to the surgery date. So I said good-bye to all my favorite restaurants and my huge portio…

hi, i am a month post-op, i had my first fill a week ago. I've had weeks where i am starving and can eat anything, and now i do not want to eat anything. i am not complaining. I keep track of cal and amounts and protein and water. I also work out 5 times a week, but i am finding i am only getting 500 to 600 cals a day which is not enough to exercise. I am eating mushies, almost regular food. Any suggestions for food that would help, everything i eat has no cals or i can only eat a tiny amount.

Hi y'all - I got banded on 12/10 and for the most part I feel great except that I've got some crazy lower back pain going on over the last couple of days. My port is on the left side and so is the back pain. (lower left side...1/2 way up) Coincidence? It could just be from trying to favor the sore port area but wondering if anyone else has felt this going on too? I'm so lucky to have been banded, not complaining. :smile2: Thanks JI

....I know better. I'm smarter than this. I CANNOT do this to myself. But, here I sit slightly depressed because the scale isn't shouting out how great I'm doing. It's absolutely insane as I just had surgery Monday, but I can't help the way I feel. I'm sorta bummed that the scale still shows just about five pounds difference since surgery. I don't really know what I was expecting or what would make me "happy." I guess I just have to have something to whine about. I suppose I'll just get my butt up and walk some more and try to have a head talk to remind myself that there is no way that this isn't going to work based on the number of calories I'm consuming. I k…

Hey All, Looks like you have a great group here. I have been clicking the mouse all over this site. I have had a lap band for 30 months. 5'11" male 50 years old. I went from 325 to 270 the first year and have not had much use of the band since. It slipped after the first year. We unfilled, waited for it to unslip (it did) and then slowly refilled. It was a year before I got more restriction and picked up 20 pounds in the meantime. I have since lost the 20 again with the refill but now I have another slip and the band has to go. I am thinking VSG and being older and wiser I thought I would look at the complication forum and the groups that had the procedure done a few yea…

I'm not banded yet, will be in the spring of next year. I had a question... When I had my initial consult, they told me I would most likely lose 1/3 of my current weight once I had the band put in place. I am 350 now, and they want me to be 20-25 pounds lighter come surgery time. So we are looking at about 100 pounds that will be lost. While being 230-250 is a heck of a lot better than I am now, I was hoping for better results. I was wondering what anyone over 325 has gone through once they got the band. Have you been able to lose more than a third of your weight? Do you find those pounds after the suggested weight loss hard to get off??? I understand it's about …

During my pre-op diet and now that I'm newly banded my husband refuses to eat in front of me. He cooks for himself and eats all of his meals down stairs. Sometimes I ask him, "So, what did you eat for dinner?" He always says something like, "It was crap...tasted like ass." And he says it totally seriously. LOL After surgery he responded to every need never acting put out. I love him but now I'm starting to worship him. Anyone else have a spouse work pretty hard to keep you comfortable during the tough phases?

I have a rare sleep disorder which is treated with 1 smallish tablet per night before bed. I was banded on 12/11. Prior to surgery, my doctor said that the pill would not be a problem; however, as I was being discharged, the nurse said that the doctor's orders were no pills. Instead, I was given an RX for liquid LORTAB (narcotics are a last line of treatment for my disorder). All was well the first few nights, but as the week progressed, I needed a little bit more to stop my limbs from jerking. My plan was to discuss this with my doctor during my post op check up on Monday, however last night it got to a point where I needed more Lortab than I am comfortable taking…

I just had surgery yesterday. I've been drinking mostly apple juice, veggie broth once (we ran out), and V8 fusion mixed with one scoop of Protein powder. Right now I'm drinking a cup of apple juice I heated up and added miralax to. What are you drinking, or what did you drink, in the immediate days following your surgery? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I am wondering if this will work. I am hopeful and will try to do my best. I guess I am worried because now I am getting hungry, can eat more and have gained a few pounds back. I go in for my first fill in two weeks or so...what can I expect? Will this hunger go away? Will I throw up after I eat too much, will there be pain? Thanks for listening and helping me.

Hi guys...I am still new to this since being banded near the end of October... I got a fill 2 weeks ago and since then I cant eat in the morning or lunch... I usually can eat by the afternoon although last Friday I was able to eat NOTHING. Heres my problem... I lost a lot of weight during the liquid phase and it seems to be coming off slower now. I know my body is changing because my clothes are falling off of me. Is it normal to lose slower. I know I have restriction since I cant eat in the morning and barely at lunch. I see all of you who have lost 80 lbs 5 months out... I know I am no where near that. My mom and friends think I am not eating enough and maybe that…

So I'm finally getting to the pain-free point. I had shoulder pain for a day and that's it. I thanked God for that one. But my abdomen was so bloated I couldn't even stand up straight or take a full breath. Anyway...doing lots better (other than starting my period!). My question: When I move in bed...from left side to right (and vice versa), or when I sit up, I get this strange sensation in my stomach. It feels like slight nausea and a large bubble moving around at the same time. I'm guessing it's my band shifting with my stomach as I change positions. It's creepy and gross. Does anyone else feel this? Does it pass eventually? I don't want…

Hi all - I am new to the forum. I had a BMI nof 31 and had the surgery 3 days ago (12/16). Do they put any "fill" into the band during the surgery? If not, then does that mean that I won't start to lose weight until my first fill?

So, I'm progressing day by day....but I have questions. I've asked on OH too, but there are so many recent patients here, that I thought I'd ask here as well. This is a TMI question.....how long before I can expect a bowel movement? I know I'm pretty much on liquids only, but nothing here so far. I took some Miralax last night, and I'm gonna try some more today. I am also working on some more walking. And, can you guys tell me what you lost the first week? I know I shouldn't expect much, but I am just curious. I think I've lost about 3-5 pounds, but I'm retaining Water too. I think walking will help with that. Thanks for all the amazing support here! I am 2 weeks post op as of Thursday and went to the doctor yesterday and I have lost 34 pounds. I lost 25 pounds on the 2 week preop diet and the other 9 pounds since surgery. I was so thrilled to loose 34 pounds in 4 weeks. He gave me a 2 cc fill also yesterday and now I am on liquids for 2 days again. My post op diet was different from many I have read here. I was on liquids for 2 days, soft foods for 2 days and then on to a regular diet on the 5th day. I was getting really hungry so I guess I needed the fill. Just wanted to share my weight loss and that I have done well since the surgery. Claudean

Ok, I had an odd experience today (my 2nd fill)... Two weeks ago, when I went for my first fill, the tech had difficulty finding my port. My port was somewhat sore and the area around the port seemed a bit puffy. I thought perhaps it was inflamed from her poking around. When I went in today, I asked for the other tech (wanted to compare them). She had no trouble locating the port and didn't have to press hard into it to find it. Here's the weird part. I knew exactly when she injected the saline because I felt it go through the tubing and over to the band, then felt the saline going into the band. It was the oddest thing. Here's my question though. Since I d…

Hey everyone, I had my surgery Tuesday afternoon. I was having lots of trouble urinating at the hospital after my surgery despite the fact that I was taking in lots of liquid. They used an ultra sound like machine to check the Fluid in my bladder to find out that I had 800 cc's just hanging out!! I had to have something called a straith cath done to relieve the urine. 6 hours later I had to have it done again this time 1100 cc's! Thats like an entire nalgene bottle full of Water in my bladder. I still could not urinate on my own. They sent me home with a permanet catheter. I go back in tomorrow to get the catheter removed, I'm just praying I can pee on my own. Did thi…

I would have posted this as a poll, but I couldn't figure out how to. Anyways I'm wondering what the puke percentage is. Sick question I know, but I'm just trying to figure out what to expect.... How long have you been banded and, Have you thrown up... Everyday? Every few days? Maybe once a week? When trying new foods? Only when you've accidently eaten wrong, like too fast or too much You haven't thrown up since you've been banded, knock-on-wood

I received my third fill at 3:30 pm today which brought me to about 5cc. I was some where between 3.5 and 4 cc before the fill and was not feeling much restriction. Whenever I get a fill I am put on a liquid diet for the first 2 days. At 7:00 pm tonight I took two sips of protein shake and have thrown up three times and have had hicups twice in the last 2 and a half hours. Should I wait this out a day or two and see if it gets better or should I go back to the doctors? I have had so many appointments this week that I really can not afford to take more time and go to the doctor unless it is really necessary.

Someone on here mentioned Sun Dried Tomato Wheat Thins. They are now my "Crack". LOL I loooooove them. I also have had other flavors and enjoy them too, but the Tomato is my fave. I wish Nabisco would make the reduced Fat in the flavors and not just the plain. I wish I never tasted them. I don't think I ever ate a Wheat Thin before.... What's your "Crack"?

Absolutely frustrated! I am a self pay patient and can't find a provider to do a fill! One scheduler even called me a liar when I said I had my surgery in CO. She said I'm sure you had it in Mexico and our surgeons don't deal with that! Then if I found a surgeon who will do out of state patients, they don't take self-pay! I need a fill!!!! I would fly to CO but Dr. K is out till Jan. 11 and I don't want to risk the snow and getting stuck in Denver. The thing is that I called these places before my surgery and they were all nice about taking over care, now it's the total run around that will take months!!!!!! HELP

Hi everyone! Although I have read posts regarding VSG and hair loss, until now I haven't experienced this at all. In the last 3 weeks though, my hair is falling out BIG time! Luckily I have thick hair so it's not so noticable. But if it keeps up at this rate, I'll be looking for a wig. What am I missing in my diet? I take multi vitamins, B-complex, B-12, and magnesium supplements. I try to eat a fairly healthy diet, as we all do. Any suggestions?:001_cool:

Well, It's been some time since I've been on, and I've been doing very well...mostly. I wanted to check in with folks about this little issue I've been having and to see if anyone has any useful advice. I am at 4cc, and I am about ready to go for another fill. The only thing that has me hesitant is that I have started having reflux at night. It happens a couple of times a week. It's like if I don't eat dinner by 5pm, I wake up to some kind of nastiness. Let me tell you; it's unpleasant. I worry that getting another fill might make it worse, but I don't think I will lose any more at this point (I've been here for a few months). I really don't know what to do with t…
