Well my heartburn is much better this week (almost gone)...yea! Now I just have to deal with hunger until my first fill on Feb. 4th.

Has anyone tried veggie chips? I just thought of them and wondered if they are really healthy at all and if we can eat them.

So pleased you are doing better with the heart burn - that can be so miserable.

I have tried the veggi chips (before banding) and liked the flavor and they were a good crunchy snack, but I wonder how well they would 'sit' now. I can't remember the calorie count, but I think they are fried.

Hope you continue to feel good.

Please help, I had my post-op on Tues and I only lost 7lbs!!!!! Why??? I have been walking at least 30-45mins/day, I have been eating 3small meals plus 3snacks a day, and not going over my fats/day and trying to get all Protein in a day, as well as watching the sugar in what I eat. I don't understand whats going on, I don't get my fill til Feb 1st, and worried that I'm either gonna stay at this 7lbs lost or gain it back, I'm getting real discouraged. I did this surgery because it was suppose to help lose faster then on my own, and now I'm regretting it.

Hi,

It sounds like you didn't get a lot of information from your doctor prior to surgery. First 3 meals and 3 Snacks is a lot. That would be what most people would eat just to maintain regular weight so if you've lost 7 pounds that's pretty good. I was told NOT to snack during the day that three meals was plenty. Most people do not lose weight before fills after they go off liquids. If you are eating regular meals than it's not surprising to me that you are not losing fast. When you get your fill you will feel much more restriction and hopefully you wont eat as much at meals and you will get rid of the snacks. Don't regret your surgery if you are only in the first month. I am 11 days post op and not sure I've lost any weight. I did not do any liquid diet before because of my low bmi and only did liquids after for a few days so I've probably only lost five pounds. You can't be discouraged before you have fills. Most feel no restriction at all which means your stomach is basically the same size it was before surgery. How far post op are you? Imagine if you lost 7 pounds per month - in 10 months you would be 70 pounds thinner. Remember it's not a quick fix. If you've lost 7 pounds already you will do great I'm sure.

Does anyone know why we can't have milk? Even if it is skim? I like doing half milk half Water with the Protein Powder to get some calcium... Thoughts?

I was told I could have milk too.

Hello all....just checking in.

I have officially lost 40 pounds and I am so excited to say that. I had a few pounds set back last week because I went out to eat and just enjoyed myself and didn't worry about what I ate.

The biggest loser at the Y started yesterday and me and a friend signed up for that. They took my total body fat and it said 45% and that was pretty sad.

I have 5 more weeks till my first goal. I wanted to be down 50 pounds by my 30th bday and I know I can do it!

I hope everyone is doing well in band land!

If I drink whole milk I get the poops, since the surgery. I have been drinking skim milk and that stays with me fine. I think I read some where, that some people who have baratric surgery, can cause you to become lactose intolerable.

Hey Moe

I was told there is a possibility you may not tolerate milk after being banded, I was never told that we could NOT have it at all. I happen to be lactose intolerant so I dont drink milk. I use soy milk for my Protein Shakes and its awesome, I buy the light which taste really go to me. It is a very good substitute if you dont drink milk or you are not allowed.

Best of Luck to you!

Hi Natalia,

You and I are in the same boat. I was banded on the 28th and have only lost 8 lbs. I also walk every day (on a treadmill) 30 to 40 mins and burn 300 - 350 cals. I eat about 600 cals a day. So have been disappointed when I read of others with 15 - 25 lb w/l. But I did lose a lot of weight pre-op and I think what is still sticking with me is the nitty-gritty hard core fat. Plus, I do have a thyroid condition which affects my metabolism. Also I'm not a spring chicken. So what I'm trying to say is, there may be many reasons that the lbs. are not coming off as fast as we would like, but you know we will get there in the end.

I had my first post-op checkup today and the doc was pleased with my progress, so I decided not to beat myself up over this. I may be a wrinkly old tortoise but I'll get to the finish line, even if it takes a little longer than most! Hang in there. ;)

O.K. Viv, are you sure you're not starving yourself? You only eat 600 calories but burn up to 350 of that off!?!?! How do you survive? That's soooo little. I don't keep track of my intake, but I'm sure it's closer to 900 calories and I only walk about 100 off. You're Strong.

Thanks for your concern. I feel fine and I'm not feeling hungry. I can't understand why I don't loose more weight!!! I am eating mushies now, but just eat 4 oz of food at a time. I have 1/2 an Atkins shake for Breakfast. For lunch today I had a little baked yam, mixed with chicken Soup and a bit of mashed broccoli, tonight I'll have an Egg Beaters omelet with a little fat free re-fried Beans and I'll finish off the Atkins later in the evening - so I think I am getting some healthy nourishment. I also take 2 Multivitamins.

Before the surgery I was eating 900 cals a day - I think I just have a screwed up metabolism

My doc doesn't want us to have milk either. This is because milk even if its skim milk still has a high amount of sugars. My doc wants me on a sugar free diet or no more than 6grams of sugar per tablespoon (I believe is what it was). I was told if it ends in "ose" then it has sugar in it which make sense. Examples: gluclose, sucrose, maltose and the one in Milk...Lactose. Here are a couple links about "ose"...

I hope this helps:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
