Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just wanted to tell you how much my daughter-in-law and I both like Unjury. If you buy it at unjury.com it is shipped quickly. I also noticed that it was higher priced on other web sites so do your homework! I would recommend buying chocolate and vanilla. I mix mine with 1% milk. Sometimes I have it plain and other times I add "extras". You can add some coffee to the chocolate to make a mocha drink and the vanilla you can add lots of goodies. I like vanilla mixed with the frozen strawberry "Fruit Chillers". Both are good mixed with banana. When you are on the clear liquid diet you can mix the unflavored with your Jello to get extra Protein. I have also mixed some of the chicken Soup Unjury with mashed potatoes. I will use it during my "mushies" stage to add flavor. It is a little more expensive than some others but oh so easy to get down. That is worth it to me. They have lots of recipes so you don't feel you have to drink the same thing day after day.

Thank you! I think I am going to order some tomorrow!!!

I have a question, I hear everyone saying that they have been on a pre-op diet for 1-3 weeks, but my doc told me just clears for 24 hours, why havent I been put on a pre-op diet? Is it due to me not having a gall bladder? Also were you outpatient or did you stay overnight, my doc stated they will not know until after the surgery if I stay or leave the same day. I have been watching you-tube for people who had the lap band, and so far the one constant thing they have said is that you need to eat correctly. I will be banded on Oct 28th, I am excited and nervous, because I know this is a life change, but I am starting to question is my mind ready for it? I am still some foods that are bad for me.....I know I can do this.....but am i mentally prepared?

I am on a pre op diet two days prior to surgery on the 27th. I was told it is just for bowel prep!

My doctors also told me that I will be staying in the hospital for 2 nights. I am going to thr Naval Hospital here in San Diego and they have all the patients stay at least two nights for observations. I am going thru all the same things you are right now with all the questions. I start to question things when I get nervous! Good luck to you! You are the day after me!!:grouphug:

I've been Realized! Had my surgery Monday, home on Tuesday, and I feel absolutely wonderful! Moving a little slower, but I'm not having any problems....well, except for hicups! The only pain I've experienced has been in my neck, but I attributed that to the bricks the hospital called "pillows". I used the PCA several times for neck pain.

My doctor said Clear Liquids only for this week...no Protein Drinks. He says I don't need them. I didn't tell him about the bunch of powders I've collected in preparation for this!!!

I am SO glad to have the surgery behind me! I was really anxious that my "advanced" age would make the process more difficult, but I'm really pleased with my outcome.

I hope everyone else is doing as well as I am!

Hi Lynn,

I am also an over 60 :grouphug: Realize gal. I am feeling really well too. I had some post-op pain in left surgery. I was told that it was refractory pain as a result of the work placing the band and repairing my hiatal hernia. It lasted a couple of days was not severe at all.

It sure seems as if most docs have their own ideas about pre-op and post-op diets. I ordered the Unjury that will should be here today because my doc wants me to have 60 g of protein a day and I can not seem to get it all in with cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Protein Shakes, broth and 64 oz of Water. I plan to make up my protein with the the Unjury by mixing it with my water or in some broth. I'm not sure how it will work.

Gotta run...taking my sister-in-law (stroke-victim) to an appt. Best to all!

The main reason to go on a pre-op diet is to shrink the liver. Docs seem to vary on this one. My Doc only requires men to do it, but I didn't have to. Basically they told me to not gain weight and try to lose but nothing strict. I also didn't have a day before diet.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all of the prayers and kind words. I got home from surgery last night around 9pm and basicially passed out. I was so tired. Today, I've been lounging around all day having my hubby wait on me. Nice times. I've been up and about walking the halls today too and all and all, I feel pretty good. I have a bit of port pain, but nothing else really. It's just a bit painful to get up and down, but hey, it's usually hard to get up anyway. Currently, I've sitting on the couch drinking Water and playing with playdough with my son.

So, I'm on hydrocodone and clear liquids for a few days. I'm hungry though which is weird. My stomach is growling. :rolleyes2: Oh well...liquid goes on. Take care everyone and good luck with your surgeries and recovery.

. My stomach is growling.

Hey Ronda! Good to hear you are feeling well, too. Sounds like we feel about the same.

I was just going to tell you that my Bariatric Coordinator Nurse said the "growling" in the lower stomach was from swallowing air. Mine is growling too. She said you should feel hunger in the middle of your chest. That it is different and takes awhile to get use to.

Not real sure if I believer her! But that is what she said!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
