Any October Bandsters!??!?!

KarenK--I'm not diabetic but I am a nurse. Have you called your doctor yet? I would definitely think you need to maybe do some "as needed" meds instead of routine now.

I have a note on my work calendar to call him tomorrow. I wasn't supposed to see him until March, but the swings in my blood sugars are making me feel pretty icky. Time to get it together and go in.

MollyJo - I was told I could exercise except abdominals after 3 weeks. Abdominals had to wait for 6.

One thing I think we've all learned from these boards is that every doctor has their own way of dealing with this.

I started walking the same day I had surgery. I was told not lift weights until after 6weeks. But I walk and jog 6 days out of the week for now between 30-40mins.

Hi everyone! I thought I would give everyone a quick update. I had my 6 week check up with my dr on Tuesday. He decided NOT to do my fill. He said that since I've lost over 30 lbs and lost over 4 inches in my waist that I should wait until January for a fill. He said something about "enjoying the holidays".

I can't decide if I'm happy that I get to enjoy food over the holidays or am a little ticked off that I don't have the additional help of feeling full. Either way, I've unfilled still. Sigh.

Have a great week everyone!

Yikes! I guess I am at a plateau. I have not lost anything in a week! I have been eating the same way and even begun exercising at last. Ok, I did eat a little bit too much turkey on Thanksgiving but I was not extravagant at all and this is a week later. I know plateaus happen and I need to keep on keeping on, but... Com'on already! I get a fill on 12/10 so I hope to be past the plateau by then. :cursing:

I really need to start excercising Ive not been doing it on a reagular basis unless you concider once a week a routine lol:rolleyes2:. I just got 5 free weeks to curves and Im starting Mon. Im sure that should help start things going again.

Good luck to all you losers out there.

Just checking in. Had my surgery on 10/22/08 and have lost from 206 day of surger to 188 today. Just joined a gym couple of weeks ago. Have found muscles didnt know I had. Ha I am having a little trouble getting in my Protein with just 3 meals of 4-6 ounces. find myself snacking to get the last of the protein in. Not sure how to avoid this. Not much will power. I had my first fill 11/18 and scheduled for a second one on 12/16 hope this helps.

Wow I glad everyone is doing well! I actually gained weight since surgery. All that I had lost on the pre-op diet. So I just got my first fill Friday. It felt so weird! I saw the barium going down on the screen, lol. My PA even gave me a picture of it. He fill me w/ 3.7mm. Now I'm on days 3, which should be pureed foods. I had a had time this morning with some eggs, it was stuck for a while. I haven't even been hungry for the past 2 days! I go back in 2 weeks for a check up and to see if I need another fill.

Anyone else having a hadr time losing? I know I gained alot back after surgery because I healed so quickly and had no restriction for about 4 weeks.

Kelly - I'm glad you posted. I've lost b/w 13-17 pounds and I fluctuate. I could definitely tell I didn't have a fill around Thanksgiving. I got a fill on Dec 1 and it only kind of feels like I have a fill. I guess I think I can still eat too much though I do get an ugh feeling if I don't chew enough!

I was banded on 10/30 and I have only lost 14 pounds..even with 3 weeks of LIQUIDS!! I have scheduled a fill for 12/12 and i am eating 1/4 of the food i used to eat...how come i am not losing any more weight? Should i be doing something else? sorry i am just disappointed when i see people losing 30-40 pounds and i am stuck at 14.... Do you think it will start to happen all at once or am i just eating too much? I can't image that is the case cause i can hardly eat...

Wow it seems like i can relate to MoolyJo, Morph521, Kellypup and a few others with this. at first i was just happy to have made it through Tganksgiving with out gaining anything. but since i've had my 1st fill i really have'nt lost much weight either. I feel more restriction than i did before but also feel like as the days past that i'm able to eat more also.:biggrin:

I was banded about the same time as you, I'm around your age, and from your ticker I can see that you were probably a lower BMI-er. All true for me too. I lost 15 pounds after surgery, but then put 5 back on after I healed and before I had my first fill (12/4 - 5 cc's in a 14 cc band). I've lost the 5# I gained plus another pound. I'm so excited. I was beside myself with anxiety before I got my fill. I thought that I was going to fail at this, like I'd failed at so many other weight loss attempts. When I went into my doctor, the PA gave me a lecture -- said I should have called and he would have assured me that I was "normal" and "everyone" had that same experience. One of the things I've done is log my food everyday. That's been helpful -- I know how many calories I eat and there's even a place to log exercise. I use myfooddiary.com, but there are free sites (I've seen them posed here, just can't remember the names).

I've read that the first fill doesn't do anything, but I do feel restriction (even PB'd for the first time when I ate too fast!) Another thing is I'd do the 5-day pouch test (google it) but I'd wait for that until after your first fill when you have at least the hope of resctriction.

My mantra - this is not a sprint -- this is a marathon!

Good luck.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
