Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi CinniMae08 - That's so wonderful about your Dr. calling you. They sound like really great people that are truly interested in you and your success. That's how I believe eveyone's experience should be.

I'm hoping the Hurley hospital staff is more like what you described. Most of my medical experiences have been very positive so I guess that's why the staff's behavior at the Hurley Clinic made me so angry.

Does anyone know how long the pre-admission testing takes? At Hurley they have you do a chest X-ray, pulminary test (spelling?), blood work, and urine sample. I was just wondering if anyone has gone through this and whether it's an all day affair?

Cadence,

Since I am a RN I will try and predict that it should only take 1 and no more than 2 hours to get your testing done. In all reality your lab draw should take no more than 5 minutes, urine sample 5 minutes, x-ray 10-15 minutes, and pulmonary testing shouldn't take much longer than that. However, I do not know how long they may make you wait and so on. If it is streamlined you should be out of there quick and efficiently! Good Luck!

I just got the lapband approved by insurance. :(

Wednesday, April 9th will be the big day.

It's such a relief to finally be approved! I am so ready to do this!

Natasha

Looks like we've been approved for surgery around the same time. My surgery date is April 7th. I am so nervous and ready for the journey. Do you know how long your hospital stay will be?

Congrats to ya !

Hi everyone---Welcome to the April Avengers!!! In the beginning of this thread, we all voted for a name and that's what was agreed upon! It's great to hear a little about everyone and even better when you find a surgery date buddy!

I too am an RN. I am being banded on April 10th. I'm sooooo excited about this! I've been waiting for 1 1/2 years to get this far. I can hardly wait for this journey to come full circle and start worrying about fills, pb's (hopefully not!) and which new jeans to buy!

Do you all want to compile a list of who is being banded on what date? It'd be nice to have that to refer to so we can support eachother better. Let me know!

Yes, it would be great to have a complete list of everyone having surgery in April. I think that it would help to make it easy for us to support one another.

Thanks for wanting to do that!:(

Does anyone know how to make those sparkly signatures so we can all have an "April Avengers" logo? Of course then you'll need to tell me how to add it since I'm not that computor savy.

I just right clicked on the April Avengers logo on ColoradoChick's post and copied it, then went to Edit Signature and pasted it onto mine.

Hey D-

Congrats to you too!

No overnight stay is required for me, unless there are complications.

I've had laproscopic surgery for gall bladder removal, so I sort of know what to expect. Basically you wake up a few hours after surgery feeling very groggy...and before you know it, you are in the car on your way home to recover in your own bed.

The hardest part about the whole process is not being able to sleep on your side or stomach. I've got lots of pillows ready because I hate sleeping flat on my back.

Turler,

I think it would be great to have a list / spread sheet so we could keep track of one another and our jouney with tracking wt. loss for those who want to also do this part.

Hey All!

Natasha started a thread under the April 2008 subforum with a list for me! Thank you Natasha, you beat me to it! All you need to do is follow the instructions on how to add your name!

There is also a Calendar on the LBT site that you can add yourself to. It will announce your surgery date, bandiversary date or whatever you choose to add to the calendar. Just go to the top of the page, click Calendar, and add. It lets you write what you want. When you are finished, save it. You will see other up coming surgery dates listed on the bottom of the page on the left! Another cool way to keep track!

O.K. I am trying something and I do not know if it will work but I have created a spread sheet that we can go in and update via a form. We can try it but I can not promise it will work. I listed all those that have posted on this thread and the dates they said their surgery was going to be. I can always add folks to it. I have attached the link here. Bookmark for future use. APRIL AVENGERS 08!! You may have to have a log-in to a google account. I also may need you to send me your e-mail so you can have priviledges this this ??? O.K. I tried it and it looks like you will need to have a google account which is easy to set up. Good Luck.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
