Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

Recommended Posts

Another weird NSV but shopping less and having a fuller pantry. Because of how little I can eat, I don't need to buy groceries like I used to. I use to spend so much money on groceries and go through them within a week because I ate so much. But now I'm spending less money and my pantry is fuller longer. It almost feels like a bariatric super power as I see my roommate buy hundreds of dollars worth of groceries and go through it within a week!
I can make one 100 dollar trip last 20 days! Of course I spend a fortune ordering my fairlife shakes online hahaha

One of the nicest non scale victories I have experienced is that I am not sweating near as much as I have in the past. I walk outside during the work day to get a little extra exercise. In the past walking around in 90 degree weather would make me soaking wet in just a short 10 or 15 minutes. I am walking a good 20 minutes several times a day without sweating very much at all. I did not think it was possible.

I'll experience my first summer at goal at the end of this year (Southern Hemisphere), so I'm really curious to see how differently I feel in the heat.

On the flip-side, this winter we're currently in down here... I feel the cold like I never did before. I look at other folks who aren't rugged up like the Michelin Man in puffers and beanies and multi-layers and wonder how on earth they can stand it! I've never been so low on insulating blubber!

I was told to cut my blood pressure meds in half because my blood pressure has dropped too low. WOOHOO! I am half of a pill away from being off ALL meds!

That's awesome! I'm almost off all my medical meds and had to decrease some of my mental meds because of how I was tolerating them.

I put my pants on this morning while standing up, I always had to sit down to do that. Small victory but I'll take it.

Don't minimize your successes! Your doing great!

I can now put my legs(one at a time) up on the sink counter after a shower and dry them off. I could before but with constant concern of falling. Now I'm practically a gymnast in there. I'm shaving my legs on a regular basis! Self care has actually become something I enjoy doing!!

I had a ring stuck on my finger for over a year that I couldn’t get off no more how hard I tried. I had an MRI a few months after surgery and the nurse told me to take my ring off and I told her that I couldn’t. I tried anyway and it came right off.

My fingers shrunk!!! 🤣😅😂

That's a great feeling isn't it?

My wedding ring was the right size when I got it 11 years ago. It's titanium, so it can't be resized.

So, yeah - went from tight to right. Then to falling right off....

Had to get some size adjusters.

Bent down to tie my shoes and didn’t have to move my boobs or stomach out of the way first 👍

Oh my gosh that is one for me too! Also not panting like I ran a marathon after I get them on.

I clipped my toe nails yesterday and it was SO EASY! No crazy twisting to try to reach them. Not having to rest in between. It was great!

This is not weird but is something that made my doctor really happy. I saw him this week and he took me off 3 medications because I no longer need them. Yay! It is also so much easier to have a shower now without feeling puffed afterwards.

That is so awesome. I know we all get fitter and healthier but I love to hear when people literally get off of medications. This surgery literally changes lives.

Crossing my legs when sitting in a chair. Putting on socks is easy, sitting or standing. Bought a new pair of pants 3 months ago that I can barely wear anymore because now they're too big too. Almost never sweaty. No huffing and puffing when walking or hiking. Bought a kayak and don't feel too big for it. No longer worried that camping chairs will buckle under me. Aches and pains in my hips and legs are nearly gone. All in all, all is good!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
