Went to my little niece's bday party yesterday afternoon/evening and was sooooo looking forward to having some cake. Turns out it was ice cream cake, and I was actually really disappointed! Went haywire last night with some binge eating sad part is it was truly a waste of calories. Was alone and ate complete garbage that didn't even taste good [emoji26] at the moment I'm trying to clear my head and tell myself I am not a terrible person these things can happen to anyone 20200126_111028.jpeg

Nope. NOT. AT. ALL. Of course you are not a terrible person.

I've seen the effort you have put in the past couple months, and I get you are probably feeling pretty sh*tty at the moment. We've all been there. And it sucks. And it's challenging to pull oneself up. And that sucks too.

It's really nice you have the ability to recognize you need to clear your head. Do what you need to do to refrain from beating yourself up, and when you forgive yourself, get back on that train you were riding for the very next meal. You have been doing awesome, one day doesn't take all that away.

*hugs*

A binge does not define you as a "terrible person." ((hugs))

Instead, use it as a teachable/learning moment. Instead of beating yourself up and feeling x,y,z, consider it an experiment. See what you can change up to create a new behavior or end an unhealthy one!

Look at it objectively (the event):

1. What can you learn from the event?

2. What were you feeling at the time?

3. What were you thinking at the time?

4. What was "running in the background" (i.e. thoughts, tv, radio, mood, atmosphere, did it remind you of a previous time good or bad)?

5. What are actionable baby steps you can do to prevent this recurrence? (i.e. get crap out of your house or put it where you can't easily see it or get to it or have to live with it, set an action plan that might include: exercise/walking, calling a friend, coming to the forum and chatting, focusing on a hobby or crafting project, playing cards, drink Water, deep breathe (4 square breathing), meditate, yoga, pray, watch a comedy, hug someone you love, stand in front of the mirror and physically tell yourself why you are proud of your accomplishments.)

6. Pose in front of the mirror in your favorite super hero pose. Do it daily.

7. Journal the event and all the details. Start tracking event free days. Put a star or a sticker for every event free day.

Are any of these new foods? At a guess, it's gonna take 4-7days for your blood sugars to behave again. Until then, you WILL be hungry. If it were me, I'd cut WAY back on the carbs and push Protein. It will help bring your hunger back into satiety mode.

If I ate 1c of strawberries with 1/4 of oatmeal...I'd be hungry. Likewise if I ate lavish roll + chickpea puffs? Hungry. Plus if I ate popcorn and the healthy habits (sugar) popsicle = pure hunger. You've got a lot of sugar and carbage running around in there. And it would keep me muchie and looking for food. But these are triggers for me and YMMV. ((hugs))

In my own narrow experience I find that bingeing begets bingeing. Or, eating a bunch of sugar/carbs after restricting for a long-ish amount of time results in me craving it more after that first re-introduction into my diet.

For me, I don't have very much difficulty differentiating between hunger and cravings, though I have read enough on here to know that there are lots who do.

Have you tried drinking Water when the hunger pains come around? Does that make any difference?

On the other hand, you may really just be legit hungry. I took a quick look back at a few days of your most recent menu postings. You generally take in very little fat* (most of the time). Personally, I find that fat in my diet tends to keep me satiated longer, as does dense Protein. Besides the 2oz of beef you had yesterday (and maybe the lavish roll? not sure how that sits in a tummy), everything else was pretty slider-ish...this *may* be contributing to any real hunger feelings...

*Note: Fat and its consumption is a bit controversial on here, some restrict it alot, others not so much. I tend to not really be concerned about fat. I tend to be more concerned about looking at carbs & protein and just let the fat fall where it may...(within total caloric limits of course)

Agree! I tend to keep fat lower for 2 reason (this is my personal issue):

1. Higher fat meals make me nauseous and might contribute to RH from delayed stomach emptying now that I have RNY.

2. I found that I lose better as an old lady, post meno taking a hormone drug that shuts things down, so keeping cals low and protein adequate with lots of Fiber seems to be my magic bullet to wlsucess. :) But I will say, there is no doubt in my mind I would have fewer hunger events if I upped my fat a bit. :D

You don't have to be Keto girlfriend! Nor that restrictive. Just maybe think about for now filling your tum with super FILLING high fiber stuff that isn't calorically dense nor sweet/a bunch of high glycemic carbs that break down to sugar. :) (i.e. More salads - lots of them! :D Instead of oatmeal, do a chocolate chia and hemp heart warm pudding with some blueberries (frozen) on them, only 1/2ounce and a dollop of vanilla Greek yogurt, plain sweetened with a drop or two of stevia.) Those sorts of swaps. Right? Instead of popcorn, do Pork rinds and a yogurt Ranch dip or yogurt onion dip...that sort of thign. :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
