Hi, got a question...It takes 3-4 years to get a consultation in Canada? Can you explain?

I had heard that Canada had a socialist medical system, but it seem ridiculous to have to wait that long to get medical help. Sorry you had to go to Mexico and pay out of pocket just so that you can start to get healthy, but glad you didn't wait.

I live in the US in Pennsylvania. It only took me a few weeks to get an initial appointment, 4 months to get through pre-op requirements, then 2 days to get approval from my insurance (but already knew they would approve before I even started all of this), then two weeks later had my surgery - now 1 week out from being sleeved. If I had to wait 3-4 more years just to get started, I don't know how much heavier I would be or even still alive. Good Luck with your weight lost journey and in starting a family.

MochaKelly Keep wearing that cape there fella. Again you and others are saving me so much $ on my psychiatrist bills...
I'll be tossing you in the bones pile...

See... bones pile. This is the kind of talk that doesn't translate well. Sounds quite threatening.

@jess9395 haha, its not threatening at all. Mocha toss a hashtag insulting me in a side slanted way. Saying eat the meat and toss the bones. And his/her irrelevant opinions can be tossed in the bones pile.

If you need further clarification let me know.

@Sosewsue61 I'll look into him. I enjoy a good laugh. And people on here seem to miss that or can't read between the lines. This forum is fairly stuffy that way.

Good luck on your journey! You wont regret it! Just beware of the crows on here.

@sylvien Hey! Yea, so a little background on Canada. We have a great health care system. However provincially WLS isn't covered by the insurance until you get approved by the very few clinics. I live in a province and we only have 1 clinic and a handful of doctors that can approve you for WLS. Its slightly ridiculous that it isn't recognized. If I lived in Ontario I'm sure its a different story. But right now I know people who had their application placed in for the procedure back in the fall of 2014 that are just now getting consolation dates. And then even after that you have to spend up to 6 months in a strict weight loss plan to prove to the doctor you are serious about it. So up here many opt out of the wait and head down to the states of Mexico.

I personally couldn't be bothered to wait that long and super thankful I didn't.

But there is good and bad with our health care. For example my wife had an asthma attack 2 weeks ago and we walked into the hospital emerg. Saw the doctor. Got her sorted and walked away without having to pay a cent. Or I can walk into any clinic and see a doctor, get a specialist appointment, MRI, major surgery and again, our tax dollars cover it.

There is good and bad to it all. Not to get all political but I'm thankful I live in a country that everyone has the same access to basic health care.

Thanks for the well wishes, you as well! Good luck in your recovery and new you.

Oh my Lord go troll somewhere else. If you don't like this post than go away. This is childish to sit here and respond over and over throwing stones. It's your personality that's being reflected here not his. Find another post to hijack.. you made your point here, no one cares!!

He's a 6'3'' guy while you're a 5'3'' woman.

1000 cals is not much for a guy of his height.

Notice - I didn't say it was wrong for him. I said how it appeared to me. If that is what his team is telling him, then he should do what they say. My point was just because you can test limits and eat carbs and sugar doesn't mean you should do it. Relating my experience with those things. No judgment.

All good @Diana_in_Philly

@Sara Bronson Yep. I'm tired of having to constantly clarify the smallest and dumbest things. I know how I word things... I say things in a way that make me laugh. If people can't figure it out, then they need to get off the internet. I'd love to see them get lost on tumblr or reddit...

@Dabearo No need to block, if people get that offended off an internet comment from a complete stranger they need tougher skin and a hug.

@Berry78 HA! I'm glad you found that. It was a typo/autocorrect. But you know what I was getting at. After all my belly has been my best friend for 15+ years. We've done everything together... saying goodbye is hard... hahaah

I went to Mexico for surgery too! Who'd you go to? I went to Dr Gerardo Garcia Alvarez at Bariatric Mexico in Cabo. It was a great experience!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
