Had sleeve oct 2016 weighed 278. got down to 160! It was too easy. I wasn’t paying attention cause I would lose no matter what I did. After Covid and bad habits I’m back to 215. Feel like an absolute failure. This was my worst nightmare. I’ve hunkered down the past few weeks without any drop in weight. Like all the magic is gone. Take advantage of the honeymoon period, learn better habits. It’s horrible gaining it back especially when people know you had the surgery. Hope for a better 2021. And back under 180(my original goal). Good luck every one

you do have to change your eating habits. If you don't, you'll be right back where you started. As everyone says, WLS is just a tool. I think of it as a strong tail wind to get you where you want to go - BUT....you have to change your eating habits, or you're either not going to get there - or you'll end up gaining it back.
My RNY still helps to control my eating to some extent. When my husband and I used to go out for pizza, we'd order a large and each eat half of it. I physically could not do that anymore because of the restriction. I can manage about two pieces. BUT....that's at one sitting. There's nothing stopping me from eating two pieces then...and then another two pieces an hour or two later.....and then another two pieces an hour or two after that. So I could definitely eat the same amount as I did before - only not at one sitting.
you theoretically could lose all that weight and keep it off if you just changed your eating habits and didn't have the WLS as an aide, but supposedly fewer than 5% of people are able do that. Your chances are much higher (although certainly not 100%) with the restriction from WLS.
the first year you have some strong advantages - hunger goes away for a few months for a majority of us, RNY people have the malabsorption component, your stomach is much smaller than it will ultimately be due to the swelling from the surgery, metabolism, supposedly, is "reset" - but after the first year or so, a lot of that goes away and what the surgery mainly seems to do is just control how much food you eat at one sitting. The rest of it is all on you.

    Yes, here is update.
It took a little longer for me to heal for the DS over the sleeve. My belly was sore and bloated for a solid 2 weeks, with painful gas. It was a pretty uncomfortable recovery in the hospital. I had mine in Mexico and they really don't give you any pain meds.
I now have figured out what I can eat. Pretty much anything I want!! Minus sugar...I have found I can still eat bread on my sandwich with no ill effect, and can have just a few bites of dessert. I can have 1 slice of pizza, steak and corn on the cob, roast beef, ... nothing really bothers my stomach. Since I am trying to lose, I do limit my portions, but I'm fully satisfied. Do not feel like I'm missing out at all, nor do I have uncontrollable cravings. I have found that if I eat too much of a carb or sugar, I will have gas and alot more loose stool the next day. It's not like uncontrollable diarrhea or anything, just have to go alot. For that reason it's really not worth it to overeat on carbs, and it keeps me from doing it. And I try to limit my carbs for the weight loss effect, not low carb by any means... just do half a piece of bread with sandwich, etc.
The bathroom situation is not as horrible as a lot made it out to be. I had problems with constipation before, so it's actually nice to have looser stools. It is more stinky, but it's worth it!! I have not had any accidents..when I'm traveling I take devrom tablets, and it takes the stinkies away.
It took awhile for me to trust the weight loss from malabsorption. At first I didn't trust it, and was eating hardly anything at all, and it actually slowed my weight loss. Once I trusted it, and ate like a normal person (about 1000-1300 cals a day) the weight started coming off. I have lost 12 since July 20. It's slow but steady. I average about 2 lbs a week... before my DS when I would try so hard doing keto, or 1000 cals a day ( which felt like starvation) I absolutely would not lose.
For breakfast I usually have 4 sausage links or low sugar oatmeal. For lunch a deli meat sandwich with cheese and Mayo, usually on just one piece bread. For dinner, usually grill a meat with a veggie, or do tacos, or bacon avacado sandwich, or egg drop soup with 2 crab rangoon. Or I also love Amy's frozen cheese enchiladas. I try not to snack between meals, because most snacks are carb heavy. If I do, I'll do cheese sticks.
Any questions, please ask. Would I do it over again, heck yes.

I had the Loop DS surgery (no revision) and yeah sleeping in bed was a no for me for at least the first week. I also slept on the couch with a bunch of pillows propped up behind me. The recovery does take a little longer than most WLS, but it'll pass! Congrats on your new surgery!

Omg the healing process is so much different and painful. I had my revision on 9.17.2020 and the pain has me so uncomfortable to move, talk, cough, anything. I cant even lay down. I literally have a cloud of covers and pillows on the couch to keep me propped for comfort. I am really hoping for weight loss as I am working on my discipline this time around cause I failed my sleeve unfortunately and I am not in denial about it.

I was very disappointed with READY Protein Water. Taste was awful to me. I returned two cases to Sam's Club. Still have 9 bottles in fridge. Will probably dump it. The Blueberry was the worst. I also don't like having to drink 16.9 oz to get just 15g protein. So bust for me.

Ok, 2 recipes for Protein Pudding.

First One: so. ding. dang. easy. peasy.
1 scoop of your favorite flavor (or 1/2 if you have a delicate tasting palette and things taste over-sweet to you). I LOVE bananas & cream from Isopure. I also love the vanilla ice cream from isopure.
1 cup Greek nonfat plain yogurt or your favorite low sugar low carb plain yogurt. They have fairly good vegan ones-Daiya and So make them I think?
    Stir together until pudding consistency.
    That's it.

Second One: so. ding. dang. easy. peasy.
1 small box Jell-o Instant Pudding (sugar free)
Use Premier Protein (any flavor) to sub for 100% of the milk. Make as directed. I used my hand mixer to blend to pudding consistency.
    version 2:
Use 1/2 Premier Protein (any flavor) + 1/2 nonfat Fairlife Milk. Make as directed. I used my hand mixer to blend to pudding consistency.

I had the Loop (sips) and no it's not okay. I was told to eat all three meals and at least two snacks a day. We HAVE to have a MINIMUM of 80 grams of protein in addition to much needed nutrients that we get from food. You can't get that if you fast. We're already risking malnutrition because of the malabsorption of the DS and skipping meals is a no go. Don't do it!

No i totally understand Keto! The Miami diet, Dr akins, Slim fast, Oprah, and all the other diet plans ...........I can read! What I am saying is that is a diet, You need a lifetime balanced healthy eating schedule Not a diet.
You are not on a diet, The Vets here will also tell you this. Took me a few months to read this site to figure that out, Bottom line You are on a lifestyle eating habits change for the better for life! Nobody said eat carbs or junk food.
Took me a while to realize post WLS i was not on a diet, I was changing insane eating behavior and eating healthy and properly for life. During my journey except for some fasting was i never on a Diet. I understand it is not easy to get on this type of eating routine, But it is not a Diet it is your journey and your meal planning being healthy and under control that will give you what you are looking for.

There are a lot of reasons to avoid the keto fad. You are already going to be in a keto like state after surgery. As you break down the fat so quickly, you will produce lots of ketones. Fat malabsorption is not unusual after WLS. Eating even more fat is not going to be helpful and a lot of it will just pass through. Fat is not going to give you the nutrition you need in the way of vitamins, minerals, and phytonurtients. It's basically just a lot of calories that you don't need and most likely can't even utilize. Consuming a lot of meat is not even healthy and contributes to a host of other health problems down the road. After WLS, you have 3 immediate goals: Water, protein, and vitamins. As the diet advances, it is still water, protein, and vitamins, but in the form of more whole foods. Getting in a lot of fruits, greens, veggies is the best way to get phytonutrients and vitamins for lifetime health. Every bite you take after WLS should be as nutrient dense as possible and have a purpose for promoting your lifelong health. HIgh meat and high fat does not do that.

By no means is this criticism, but do you eat any fruit or veggies? I'm curious how others in the post surgery phase get by day to day with meals. This screenshot is devoid of them and I wondered if it was normal for you.

Aww thank you. My husband and I are medical (doctors), so are well familiar with the symptoms of dumping. He says he can see it happening after I eat only about 2 mouthfuls of steak. I go very pale, extremely sweaty, dizzy, and feel like I am going to faint. I get nauseous and I feel like I could lay down under the table and sleep. I agree it is usually sugar and carbs that cause dumping, but protein dense foods are terrible for me.
Going back to my surgeon is not an option.. He is under investigation for a number of complaints by the Medical Board! Practice is closed and he has been suspended. You know, if I hadn't seen the barium swallow 24 hrs after surgery, I would have almost been suspicious that he had done a bypass instead of sleeve, because of the dumping.

I am also 2 years out, started at 266, now 190. I am 5'8 female. My goal is 170. I am stuck. Not gaining, but also not losing. I have been stuck for about 8 months. My food intake is still tiny, and my sleeve has never stretched. To be honest, I get fed up with my sleeve, and I hate eating out. I can barely fit in a side salad as a main. I get terrible symptoms of dumping eating steak, chicken or fish. That's exhausting and not very social! I am wondering if I am actually not eating enough, and I am in starvation mode. I am going to go back on to my Optifast shakes to up my protein. Maybe you should do the same? Get your metabolism fired up again?

Just want to say congrats for catching it at 15lbs and for recommitting to health! Congrats on losing 120lbs. That's phenomenal and no small feat!!! Make sure you give yourself credit for that dedication and effort!
For me, I find it very easy to gain and my maintenance is a lot like a teetertotter. It goes up easily but it does come back down with my normal Forever Diet for WLS (weight loss success). So I look at maintaining a pretty tight 5 lb window. Tracking is critical in my honest opinion. As is daily weighing (when I'm needing extra accountability) and measuring monthly or weekly. Or taking pics. Whatever you need to actually SEE the losses!
I also have to walk daily for 30-60 minutes and drink my 100+oz of liquids each day (64oz of that is plain water) and take my vitamins.
Hang with us and we can help keep you focused on success.

Sorry I need to correct my weight. It was supposed to say 320lbs down to 200

Anyway, thank you so much for the responded. I’ve redone loaded the Baritastic app for monitoring my intake again as well as completely thrown away the crap food in my house.

I will be certainly taking this seriously. Thanks again!

I'm one year post-op, no gains yet, but no losses, but I started sneaking in cookies and crackers. So I've cut them out again and I have faithfully kept a food journal online every day for a year at myfitnesspal.com which keeps me mindful of what I'm eating and how many calories, etc. I also visited the nutritionist this past week to get back on track.

are you still measuring/weighing and tracking your food? If you're not, I'd consider it. I'm 4.5 years out and still have to do this - and probably will for the rest of my life. I've learned I'm not good at estimating and remembering what I ate. My weight starts heading north pretty quickly when I stop closely monitoring my food intake.
