I use Premier Protein which is an 11 ounce premixed shake that's 160 calories, 30g Protein, 3g fat, 5g carbs, and 1g sugar. I thinks it's great for the protein I get in an 11oz package. I get them at Sam's Club.

I'm on MyFitnessPal as ajohnson1050. You can add me and we can follow each other's diaries for food ideas and progress.

Which incision is bothering you? I ended up with 6, 5 normal and 1 for drain. The drain and one above my naval (not the actual belly button incision) still bother me. I think it's because the tissue or muscle that had to be cut to get through. My other are healing well and don't bother me at all.

It's the incision on my left side. The doctors said it was the one that they used most so it gonna be sore. Also it is pretty big compared to the others. I also use those shakes but holy cow they are getting alittle thick!! I can take 1 for sure per day but the second causes me trouble.

Yeah I only use one because it's 30g of Protein itself. I then try to get the other Protein with Greek yogurt, eggs, and canned tuna or salmon. I don't use the canned, but the foil packs. You don't have to strain them. I only get one egg in, which weighs 1.5oz. I get 1-2oz of tuna later in day. Those have decent protein.

I feel my two incision pain points later in the day as if I've been working them too hard and need to rest. I start the day off pain free.

How about you? Is it constant or comes up later in day?

@KittyKatt. I am now almost 14 weeks post op. I also had my heart set on the sleeve until I learned that bypass would likely cure my uncontrollable Gerd and the sleeve could make those symptoms much worse.

I have not had to take any reflux medicine since 30 days out and the best part, I don't get reflux or even heartburn any longer! I even made homemade stuffed peppers, stuffed with ground beef on wed. I was able to eat a very tiny portion and even the green pepper! No heartburn or Gerd!

Woot woot! That dish used to cause me to be up all night long with reflux.

Once you get through recovery, you are going to be so glad you did this!

It comes n goes. For the most part its a sharp pain when I move from one position to another. When I try to eat i can only get about 1 - 1 1/2 tablespoons. After that I'll start hurting a bit. This is a little much for me but I knew what I was getting into!!

@@Djmohr wow look at that..I even have restrictions without the wls. Not being able to enjoy those mouthwatering dishes. I take one bite of a turkey & avacado from togos and it kills me all day with my acid levels. Guesa it contains oil vinegar and lemon with the avacados. Guess having the ryn will be much easier and better.

Hi All! Question for you... I had my bypass of 12/15 and I have lost 14 pounds so far but the strangest thing is that my jeans are still snug around my belly? Anyone else have this issue?

My belly hasn't budged much either, but other places have. I'm sure the healing process may cause some inflammation in the area as well as we can't work out that area much now. I'm sure when we're cleared to workout more the belly will begin to go.

Mine was 12/9.

Hello Everyone, I'm Leanora and I had my surgery on 12/15. Everything went great and I was home the next day after my surgery! While I was in the hospital I didn't have much pain, but when I got home it really started to bother me, but now I only have pain in the middle of the night! My highest weight was 443, my day of surgery weight 382, and my current weight is 372. I'm glad I found this post because I am dealing with the same things as everyone else and don't feel so alone.

@@kittykat,

I have not experienced any dumping. I sometimes with get pain in my chest if I eat too fast or nauseous if my pouch does not like a particular food. I can tell usually with a bite or two if that is going to happen and then I stop wait til it passes and get something else a bit later. I will tell you the first couple weeks of eating regular food (still high Protein, low/no carbs, low fat) that are a bit tougher because you really have to learn how to eat all over again. Sometimes you go to fast or don't chew well enough you can get some discomfort. That usually happens when you are not paying enough attention. I never over eat, I measure everything at home so when we do go out I have a pretty good idea of the portion size I can tolerate.

You will have to keep us posted on your surgery date and recovery.

But the way, I don't eat dessert any more at all. My taste buds simply do not like sweets. That was a huge win because I definately had a huge sweet tooth.

I have tried a bite of my hubby's just to see and the sugar tastes horrible to me.

Every Christmas we have a tradition that has been passed down for many generations. We have strawberry Schaum Torte. I now make it because everyone else on my husbands side of the family who knew how has passed on. I am now teaching my granddaughter how to make it and it is her very favorite dessert. She waits all year for a piece. Anyway, it has a lot of sugar in it. I was so very proud of myself that I did not even taste nor did I want to and I did not even miss it. I would rather have some nuts or cheese.< /p>

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
