JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Recommended Posts

I'm worried I can eat too much. For lunch today I had a boiled egg and a cheese stick. I did feel full afterward and my stomach did spasm some when I ate but it spasms with Water, too... How much can everyone eat at one meal?

Are you getting your water in about 15 min before you eat? I know I was told that we can also prematurely flush food on through our sleeve with water and that's why we are supposed to drink a while before and a while after.

I guess it's different for everyone, I'm on the purreed stage (starting the 4th week today, Yay!) I can get down only half of 1 scrambled egg with salmon purée even it's very tasty but I really cannot. I eat very slowly with a teaspoon, chew well and wait a little after swallowing to see if it already filled in the stomach and stop at that point. I practically can eat greek yogurt with purée fruit or scrambled egg in the amount of 2 full tablespoons. On the aother hand I can easily eat around 1/2 cup of liquid Soup.< /p>

I don't think the spasm thing is a good sign, maybe you should try to eat smaller bite and slower and drink water a little bit at a time. See if ithe stomach will agree with you.

I get a cramp that comes and goes too ... (sleeved 7/14/14) seems to happen when I drink to fast.

I just started full liquids, so that may be a part of it too... (liquid in liquid acid out!)

Was sleeved on 7/24. Started full liquids on Sunday. TMI issue, but since starting the milk Protein Shakes have had bad diarrhea. I can't tolerate the unflavored Protein in Clear Liquids or shakes made with Water. Anyone else have this issue? I've never had an issue with milk before. Lucky me :(

My dietitian said it was to be expected because I m just doing liquids. I did the strawberry powdered shakes. They're ok. 235 preop. 228 after surgery on 7/22. I learned valuable lesson. I used an inserted blender for drinks. But I didn't let the air settle out. So it was like carbonated drink

I was told the same thing... she said, " liquids in liquids out" ... Not what I wanted to hear... I tried mixing my shakes with almond milk,..but still went through... She recommended me to go back and do more of the clear protiens. so I ordered nectar to try... Then REASSURED... I heard this will only last till we eat purrees! THERE IS AN END IN SIGHT.

Hello all, Hope everyone is doing good. I have a question , (haven't had surgery yet) when some speak of the Spasms after drinking how does that feel? That may be a stupid question but I am curious, did you all have to have an upper GI as part of your pre-surgery testing?

That is a hard one to describe... I would just say... GAS bubbles.. Painful gas bubbles.. BUT they go away pretty quickly.. Just make sure you drink/eat very very slowly and it won't be a problem.

Hi I had my sleeve done on 7/17. Just looking for support here and someone to bounce food ideas off of. I'm doing some purée now for Breakfast and dinner, for lunch I'm just drinking my Protein Shakes and Water. It's so hard getting them in so I find it easier to do a liquid lunch. My energy level is coming back. I went out on my own for a bit today and drove myself around. Felt good but I still get tired. Good Luck to all!!

Sleeved on the 16th and went back to work today. Feels good to be doing something besides focusing on Water and Protein Shakes lol. Only outstanding effect is I will sometimes get light headed if I am not careful standing up fast etc. My Dr has already cut my high blood pressure meds in half. May be off them sooner than later :)

I got sleeved on june 30 and everything went exceptionally well. Was off pain. Meds a couple hours after surgery. Walked 1/4 mile every 4 hours in the hospital. Was back to the gym 2 days after surgery. I thankfully wasn't effected by lack of energy. In fact now that im 4 weeks post op I feel more tired. 2 weeks post op I was down 12 pounds. I was back to work a week and a half after surgery. I'm afraid I'm not losing weight though. And some days it's hard keeping food down.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
