Hi Kelly,

Well.....I'm starting to finely feel better now. Dr Rohrscheib was able to remove the old band with no problems and put in a new one. I go in for my first fill the end of Sept.

Talk to you later,

Terry

I see you had your band replaced. I am very interested in knowing how many people originially had their band with Dr TUll and had to have it replaced. I had mine replaced in March and have not lost a SINGLE lb since (that is another story!!!!) Anyways, just interested!

My first band was done in Mexico by Dr. Ortiz. Jan. 2007. I had trouble with it right from the start. It seems it may have been put to low and ended up making a small pouch above the band over time. I have lost 50 lbs but it was not easy. The last year I have had to eat around the band by eating very soft foods; then towards the end nothing was going down....not even Water. This was all with no fill at all at the end. I haven't heard anything at all negative about any of the doctors in the Clinton office. I'm so glad I have Dr. Rohrscheib as my doctor.

I was banded about 18 months ago by Dr. R and everything was great. I did have my gallbladder removed six weeks after the band went in and everyone was so wonderful about it at the office. I was so sick with the gallbladder and it was vital to me to have people really looking out for me.

I hope everyone is doing well with their bands and have had no complications. I had a minor setback in late August but I am struggling to return to where I was. I had lost 75 pounds but have regained 7 due to having 2 unfills and now a refill last week. I was having heartburn and night cough and hadn't realized that it was because my band was too tight. I had an unfill and then another and struggled for 8 weeks to not gain any weight. After gaining almost 10 pounds I went for my refill last Thursday. I'm doing great so far and hope to have the 7 pounds back off soon. Crazycat...hope all is well and that you have a wonderful holiday. I wish everyone else the same as well.

Hello,

Great to see others from central IL. I am from a small town North of Bloomington/Normal. I plan on being banded in April with Dr. Woodard of DayOne Health in Winfield IL. I am encouraged to read your stories, and hear of your ups/downs. I'm trying to be realistic and realize that it won't be easy, but will be worth it.

God Bless you all,

Just Tired

Ok tomorrow is my first fill! eeek. I'm excited but nervous about needles. I'm sure the apprehension makes it worse.

You know I was kind of disappointed in the lack of time that Dr. R spends with his patients. I saw in the surgery room for one minute before I was under and then I was sent home without seeing him.

I'm totally fine, but that is the last time I saw him? Isn't that weird? hmmm I thought so.

I go for my first fill next Monday (Dec. 8). I am nervous but ready. I have been on mushies for a week and they are already getting old.

I am seeing Dr. Albert Gilman in Decatur. He has been excellent. I have no complaints about him at all. He spoke with my husband after surgery and then he came to see me the next day before releasing me to go home.

Hi, I am so happy to have found this thread! I just found this mesage board on Suday and had my banding surgery yesterday. I am amazed at how well I'm doing and how little pain I have. Dr. R did my surgery at Carle, he's also done surgery for a couple friends. He and his staff at IBC seem very nice and friendly.

I started reading the thread from the beginning but didn't realize how long ago it started so I decided to skip to the end and introduce myself. I hope to go back and catch up.

Does anyone still get together regularly? I think the first Monday of each month was mentinoed. I'd love to meet up with others. It's so helpful to get first hand information.

Anyway I'm looking forward to catching up with this group.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
