Champaign Illinois Anyone? Central area?

Recommended Posts

Lori, thanks for the info and I have considered going to a RE but I can't find any in the area. I live in a tiny town of 1300 that's 45 minutes from Champaign. The closest I could find is Indianapolis and I just don't have the time to drive 2 1/2 hours there and another 2 1/2 hours back, possibly multiple times a week. I couldn't possibly get that kind of time off work. According to my gynecologist, there's absolutely nothing wrong with me- I'm just too fat to get pregnant. It's so frustrating and this is my last resort. And the depression brought on by every doctor that I've been to telling me that it's all my fault for being so fat makes it all so much worse. I can barely get out of bed at this point and cry every time I see someone else pregnant. I don't know how much more I can take. I feel like I have so few options because I'm geographically restricted and don't have the time or resources to change that. *sigh*

Well, I went to a gyno who said that and then I went to another one.

There are RE's that work out of Carle Clinic in Champaign. Dr. Fay is the main gyno there but I think mine still comes in from Indy. It's been 7 yrs, but I'm pretty sure he still comes in.

I weighed 265 lbs when i got pg. I had to take clomid and to take glucophage. I have a mild case of PCOS. I got pg both times. He never once said anything about my weight.

Have you charted? Do you know if you ovulate? Have you tried ovulation kits? I used a fertility monitor both times I got pg and it worked along with my meds to tell me if I was ovulating.

There are things you can do while you chase this journey. It is not hopeless. Oh and I was 34 and 37 when I got pg with my kidlets.

Keep the faith!

I've been to 3 dif doctors and none of them would help me. I think they just my weight as an excuse because they don't know what the problem is. All my tests come back fine and they say I'm ovulating. I've been using the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor for 2 years and monthly test kits before that. They never say I'm ovulating but the doctor insists I am. I've been on Metformin for awhile and taken several cylces of clomid and follistim injections. Nothing. My husband had his tests done and he's supposedly fine too but clearly something isn't. And I have checked into Carle's Reproductive center but my insurance won't cover them and they only do the IVF in Indianapolis. I appreciate the encouragement but I lost any semblance of hope a long time ago.

Ok, SArah, you haven't give up hope because you are still trying! I do think losing weight could knock some sense into your ovaries, it can work for sure.

My insurance made me prove that I was on a diet for 6 mths. So I had to go to my gp and weigh in each month..blah blah. I didn't have 6 mths in a row of Weight watchers and such.

good luck!

I live in Peoria... Is anyone getting together for lunches/dinners? I would love to talk to people in the area that have been banded. My Dr is in Chicago and I have no support other than browsing the forum. I have no problem driving to champaign once a month or so just to have face to face talks.

I'm still here!

I'm from Mt. Zion, near Decatur.

I'm down 75lbs and kind of stuck here for awhile, but I don't think I've been working as hard as I need too. So really it's my fault. It's been slow, but I've never felt better in my life!

I know what you mean. I got the band at the end of July 09 and was steadily loosing weight. I have since hit a platu. I joined a gym but during the holiday season wasn't going all that often. My friend and his wife(she had surgery too) just joined. My wife and his go during the day and he and I go at nights. I still have about 40-60lbs before I get to my desired weight. Seems like a long way away. Looking back I have come along way already, I have lost about 120lbs. I do feel a lot better too. I really need to tone my excess skin though. Thats about the only depressing thing so far.

(I didn't notice that I hadn't updated my ticker in a LONG time)

I'm from closer to Champaign than Peoria.

I was excited to find this link and then no one has really posted for a while.

Maybe we can get it going again. :wink2:

I'm still here too. I haven't been on in such a long time but I decided to hop on and see who still visits. Sounds like everyone is doing really well. I'm healing from my Tummy Tuck and am thrilled with the results so far. Good luck to everyone out there.

I live in Urbana and have not had surgery yet, but my date is scheduled for 4/22/10. I am using a local dtr, but I don't see that any one else has ever used him. At Carle Clinic, Dr Oliphant. I know when I met him and the couple of visits that I have had he is extremely nice and so is his staff.

This site has helped me considerably and I hope to continue to use this site during my journey!

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
