I'm in Monticello, & very interested in a lap band support group. I was banded 3/12/08 also by Dr. Rohrscheib, everything went great, but I'm still dealing with emotional eating, having a support group would be great for me. Anybody???

Hi Tysgirl55,

Simmons ( Kelly) and I meet about once a month for lunch. You are welcome to join us if you would like. If lunch doesn't work for you; I could meet with you any time even on a week end if that is better for you.( I don't work work.) It's really nice to be able to talk to other people about what you are going though with the lap band. It's nice to have support.

Michelle that goes for you too.... I can meet you any time.

Terry

Becky,

I am so jealous. I called to see if I could get in on Monday, but they said it was a crazy day. I have to wait until the 14th. At work we are having a fundraiser on the 15th and I will be on liquids. When I called, they said that I might be able to get in this Thursday, if someone cancels. I am eating like a horse!!!!

Becky-

I was at Dr. Sid's today, the 7th. My appointment was at 2:30 but I got there early and they took me. What time was your appointment. I got to start on mushies!!! Took my daughter and granddaughter to MCL and had some cottage cheese, mashed potatoes and green Beans. Oh it tasted so good after all these liquids.

:tt2:Carol, they told me you were there, I got there about 3:10 app was at 3, but they must of been running late because I sat there anothere, 20 min.PA filled today, thank goodness, She got very aggressive put 2 cc in,now 5 cc in a 10 cc band. I told her I had no restriction I have only been telling them that for the past 2 fills, but after I told her I ate steak, 1/2 baked potatoe, about cup of veggies, and was still hung. she finally realized I HAD NO RESTRITION!!!!!!! So hope this will work, but if in 1 week I still feel I have no restriction I am to call her and she wants to put more in, says everyones abd. is different. and I just need more. I had told here about some of the girls on here that only have couple cc and have been banded alot longer than me, I have only been for 3 months, keeps telling me not to worry. easy for her to say!!! Looking forward to 22nd. In Christian Love and Much Respect, Becky

Hi all, I have a question about fills. Why do we have to do liquids for a while after the fill. I had my last fill, and I did liquids that night and part of the next day, but then I forgot and ate solids. I am hoping that I didn't do some damage to my band, because I really have lost much, and what I did lose, I gained back. Also, as long as I am being honest, I usually set my pop out at night so it will go flat, and the last couple days I have been drinking it right out of the bottle. Still fizzing. HELP!!!!!!

Hi Michelle,

You need to go on liquids after a fill because your tummy becomes a little swollen with the movement of the act of the fill. The fill moves and disturbs your tummy thus making it swell. If you don't go on liquids, thinking you can eat solids afterwards you risk throwing up a lot every time you eat. You can make your self even more swollen. You may not know really just how your fill restriction is as far as how much restriction you really have. By the way Michelle...how are you doing?

Hope this helps,

Terry

Hi Kelly,

Did you want to meet for lunch some time? Kelly....you said that your weight loss has slowed down. Have you tried going on a low/ no carb diet? That is what I'm doing now and Kelly I have lost 3 lbs in one week. It takes a while for the body to rid it's self of the carbs, but once it does the weight just starts dropping off. Well....that and being not able to eat solids until the evening time.

Hi Becky,

What I eat is a lot of is boneless skinless chicken seasoned with sala seasoning mix and then pan fried with 1 Tbl spoon of olive oil. With that I fix a fresh pico de gieo ( fresh salsa ). I slice the chicken up and serve it on lettuce leaves with the salsa. I just eat chicken or fish served with fresh vegt. I stay away from all white carbs, and all sugar.

I use FitDay.com every day. It tells me how many carbs, cals, every thing I need to know in order to lose weight. FitDay is what got me going on the right track for losing my weight. The way I eat really isn't a diet, It's just eating very healthy.

Hope this helps,

Terry

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
