Banded Bikers II

Hey Randy! Congrats! Yes, I made it too. Ended up going with a couple of guys from my HOG chapter. It was kind of like going alone for me...lol We did Sturgis, Rapid City HD, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and then on Tuesday I decided I wasn't having as much fun as I wanted so I took off and left for Colorado. I have friends and family there and decided since I was so close...why not! It was a great solo trip. I had one scary moment in a Wyoming storm, which has to be the windiest state in the country...lol I put on 3513 miles on my Sporty and rode through eight states. Rode over some really high passes in Colorado. (Macacoza, even had lunch in Canyon City) Crossed my 10000 mile marker too. Made it home on Saturday night. Wouldn't trade any part of the trip at all. Would definately go back to Sturgis but only if I'm with a group of friends. Now, back to the reality of work...(sigh) I really need to win the lottery so I can do that all the time.

Ain't that the truth? I had to be back in the coal mine on Sunday. Joy was in Atlanta visiting the daughter unit while I was riding. She made it home on Wednesday. I think it is pretty cool that we both just stuck out on our own. And I'm glad that we BOTH made it back in one piece.

Amen to that Randy. Glad Joy had a fun trip. I know I really enjoyed mine as well. It made me feel so free just to get out there by myself. Of course my trackers knew where I was headed and I checked in regularly but I never felt any concern at all. I knew the road angels were watching over me.

Looks like everyone is gettin in from the rally. I was on the interstate here a few minutes ago, (coming back from post-op appt.) and saw a few bikes looked like they had been the wind for a while. Figured it must be some ralliers, they were heading east through Louisiana.

Well post-op appt, went well I am now 8 days out and lost 22lbs since being banded, 50 since this all started in May. Return to the grind this Saturday.

Found out that my assistant who has been running the show went down with gall bladder on Monday, and had Lap Surgery this morning. I talked to her and let her know what she would be in for, we laughed pretty hard about having similar surgery about a week apart.

Well glad to see that some of you had a good rally experience, I can't wait to get in the wind again.

Jim, sounds like you're on the right road. Congratulations on that loss! You'll be tearing down the other road in no time.

Carol, now that you're back and safe and sound in your home, you get a......wait for it......TROPICAL STORM! Yeah, that's what we need around here, more frickin' rain. Sheesh! I read the other day, out where I work, we've had over 50 inches, as of the 6th. Joy and I are going to be in your area some time next month. I would call, but I lost your number. New phone....*sigh* oh well. Ride dry! LOL

Hey Jim, congratulations on your success so far! You're doing great! It's also fun to have someone you know have the same surgery because you can bounce things off each other for support too.

Randy...no freakin kiddin!!!!! It's pouring here now. I'm just thankful I got the jungle mowed before it started. Well I'm leaving for Vegas (by plane) on Saturday so I won't be riding until next week anyway. When are ya'll heading down? I'll send you the number in a pm so you have it. Definately give me a call when you and Joy are here.

Hey Randy, hope you all did well with T/S Erin. I am on the La. coast, bout 90 miles southwest of N.O. so I know what its like. We took a really good hit from Katrina, but you know all the focus was on N.O. Well good luck, and I hope you all dry out soon.

Well Jim, so far all we've gotten is a little sprinkle. I live about halfway between Houston and Dallas. But Carol is down San Antone way and they got hit pretty hard. I've heard of several that have died in the flooding.

Belinda, congratulations on the band and welcome to the thread. Tell us about your last ride. When we can't ride we live vicariously thru others...LOL

Hey guys got back on my horse yesterday. Just rode around town ran some erands ans such. Man was it hot, I mean it was Africa hot out there. I had a fleeting thought about washing my bike, but it didn't take long to change my mind about that. I almost melted just checking tires and fluids.

On the band front, I have been feeling fine, no problems with any of the foods on my eating continuum. Don't feel much restriction though, I have been being very careful. I feel like I could eat a Whopper if I let myself go. I am definitely gonna need a fill when I have my next appt. on Sept. 18. I am going to be careful until then so I don't backslide.

Hi Belinda! Welcome aboard! You'll love it and it's easy to live and ride with.

Jim, glad to hear you're doing well and back in the saddle again. We did have flooding around the area but I didn't have any impact. Except the darn grass keeps growing..lol

Randy, you guys be careful on your drive. Definately give me a holler and I can meet you and Joy somewhere. If there's not any rain I'll even ride there. :) Taking my Babee in for her 10k check up on Friday. Just had the 5K done in June. Sheesh....lol

I hope everyone's doing well. I have to get back on the bandwagon. Just got home from the Vegas/California trip and gained some back. I think all we did was eat and drink and not in a healthy way. I'll be ready for a fill on my 9/12 appt too.

Ok im joining. I love to ride. My fav kind of bike is naked sports bikes, FZ1 , Honda 919, Suzuki Bandits etc...

I felt like i was to fat to get one of these so after my learner GZ250 i bought a Boulevard (Suzuki) M50. Its about as close to a sports bike as a cruiser gets. I havnt got 1000 miles on it yet so im still breaking it in.

As i lose weight im feeling better and better on it. One day ill trade it in. I really like Triumphs (prolly cas im British livin in the USA) . I love there new Speed Triple thats coming out.

Glad to be here. O and the R6 is SWEET!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
