Gotta share my nsv of sorts!! Was sitting at two of my boys' ball practice and another mom walked up to me. She started out by apologizing for not saying hello to me during the last practice.....said she didn't realize it was me until her husband later that night said something about "Lisa sure has lost a lot of weight" then she realized it was me!!!!!!

Joe.....you rock!! that's a lot of losing!! I'm jealous but not disappointed in my own weight loss. Dr. said today I've lost 53 pounds in 4 months (my scales show 44), wanted to average 10 pounds a month for the first year so I'm ahead of schedule. Do you have a goal for the end of each month/year or are you just going for it?

5jacks- That is a great NSV! You must be so proud of yourself!:clap2: Your weight loss is GREAT! I went for my 2nd fill today. The PA put .75 cc's of saline in the band with the first fill. Today he told me that there was still .75 cc's in my band and he added another .75 cc's for a total of 1.5cc's in a 4 cc band. I am almost at my 3 month bandaversary(4/30) and I have lost 36 pounds. I also wanted to lose 10 pounds/month, so far, I am ahead of the game.;) Have a good night! Gigi:)

Thanks and Congratulations!

My goal is just to get my weight off. I do believe that I will be where I want to be by the end of the year. To be honest I'm 6'5 and will be happy to be anywhere between 250 and 275. I will decide when I get to that weight if I want to try for 240. I havent been under 300 since since high school 15 years ago. I just cant wait to hit 299! Its all down hill from there.

Good Luck!

Joe

Oh My GOSH!!!! DIdn't realize you hadn't had a fill yet! That's great to be able to do it with no fill.....I'm jealous!! I'm already at 3cc in a 4 cc band. I'm with you, started out at 330 and would be tickled to be under 200....like maybe 199!! When we got married I was at 220, first kid 280, and the twins I was at 310....would love to be under 250 at this point. It's funny, when people ask me how much I want to lose I hesitate to tell them for fear they'll figure out how much I weigh, yet it's no problem blabbing it all over here with my "LBT friends". Thanks everyone!

We're both losing at about the same rate! Doesn't it feel great?! When I go through the stage of not losing pounds it's a little rough to stick with it. But then my body kicks in and the weight drops quick and all is good! This last month I lost 12 pounds....all in the first 2 weeks....then not another pound for the next 2 weeks!

Keep up the good work and let me know when you hit the next 10 away forever!

Well got my first fill yesterday. I got 1cc in my 4cc band. I am on full liquids for 48 hrs. So far so good. I guess I won't feel much restriction until I return to solids. I can't wait to start losing again! Kellie

Hi all!!

I went in for my second fill on 4/24, for the first time with a local surgeon (he did not do my surgery). Anyway, he couldn't find the diaphram on the port. So, off to x-ray I go to find out that my port is flipped!! Instead of lying parallel with my tummy, it's facing toward my left hip! Until I can have surgery to repair it, no fills for me!! How discouraging... and expensive too. Dr. K said he'd fix it for free, but I have to fly out there. The local Dr. said he'd fix it too, but for around $1,800.00!!

Hey guys,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while and everyone looks great! I have been sooo busy, but a lot of good things going on! I start a new job on June 1st, I'm still volunteering at the aquarium, and now I'm in a special program there where I get to basically "play" with our three beluga whales for 1.5 hours, it's pure bliss!!!! I quite my job on May 9th, and I'm going to take a couple of weeks off to focus on school, my family, and then I'm going camping up to Plymouth, Mass and go on a two day whale watch! I'm so glad things are going my way, and a positive way, and I think about this whole group of January bandsters everyday!!! Keep up the good work, I'm glad we're all keeping in touch!

Shesha - how frustrating! To go through all that you have, pay the money and have something wrong just when you are getting your momentum up. How are you doing?

I am doing well, after my second fill I figured out it was too much and I actually STOPPED losing any weight so I went in and had a little taken out. Then after a couple of weeks I went back and had half of the amount taken out put in and I seem to be doing fine.

I am on my way to 45 lbs. I can't believe this is actually working sometimes! I am glad I'm not losing any faster in a way because I am already getting baggy skin...but I am also very out of shape and almost 50 yrs. old. I try to keep my focus on how I feel and I feel GREAT! I am doing things (yard work, stairs, etc.) I have struggled with for the last 5 years!

Sheila, so sorry to hear that - that is discouraging. Hang in there, hopefully you will be able to have it fixed soon. Did they say what causes a port to flip?

Also, if you are having it repaired, ask them about putting a new port the small one in (the low profile port). They are much smaller and don't show as much as the other one.

Keep us posted.

Your job sounds so fun! My DH & I are wanting to take an Alaskian cruise and go Whale watching. You have to tell me all about it when you return. Congrats on a new job too!

Okay everyone, I need some advice.......I have been very secretive about my surgery, I have told everyone it was for a hernia repair, which I did have done. The only people who knows is my DH, my mom, my cousin and my brother.

I was having lunch with my husbands family yesterday, and of course, I eat slow, and I eat small. Well, I guess they are starting to notice and get suspicious. My sister in law came right out at asked me if I got the Lap-band surgery. I about crapped my pants. I was not prepared to answer that question, so I lied. I'm not a good liar at all, and I'm sure she could tell.

She then told me I'm just losing so fast, and I told her I was just now where I was last summer (which I am), and I haven't lost any in the last couple of weeks (which I haven't), and I'm exercising my butt off (she knows this - she calls me and knows I'm at the gym).

My DH thinks I should just come clean. The problem is his family is so judgemental, and I just don't want to share this, but I do feel bad about lying. I think its rude she put me on the spot like that, and I don't think its any of her business. I just didn't know how to respond when she asked me point blank, I didn't want to lie, but at the same time, I didn't want to tell her my personal medical history. I've been dwelling on it all day and I just know she knows i'm lying and probably talking to the whole family about it. I know if I confided in her, she would tell, she is a big gossiper in the family.

How should I handle this? Should I just ignore her, stick with my answer that I'm eating less, exercising more - which are true. Or should I beg her not to tell and come clean?

My husband says the truth is neither good or bad, its just the truth and he says he doesn't think he can lie if she ask him. My DH never lies and just can't do it, even as a child he would confess - so I just am worried sick about this.

Hi January Bandsters,

Just checking in. I've been stuck without a loss in weight for about 2 1/2 weeks. I started working out more seriously last week and keeping going with incremental increases. It is also my TOM but I'm also thinking that my body is adjusting and hanging on for dear life. I hope it gets moving... I did go in for a fill two weeks ago and that has helped with eating too much altho I usually do make good food choices. Anybody else been stuck for so long? Any suggestions to bust it open again?

Sunshine...I think it is your story to tell OR not to tell. I don't think your sis-in-law needs any more details that what you've shared. Your workout routine alone would account for the weight loss success you've had thus far. If the family is going to be judgemental, I don't think I'd say anything. I'm still very picky on who I tell. Family and a few close friends and none have given me any grief or judgemental attitudes.

Keep up the good work all of you. I get inspired by your successes!

Shawn

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
