October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Calling all October bandsters...

I just wanted to start a thread where everyone can post their surgery dates and we can compare notes.

I am scheduled for 10/18. I have ALL my pre-op stuff done as of last week. I start Protein Shake diet on 10/4. :)

How is everyone else doing getting their pre-op stuff scheduled?

10/26 for me!

I have pre-op testing this friday. then liquids start the day hubby and I get back from vacation.

I'm trying to start working smoothies and protien shakes into my routine so it's not so hard. i bought some Odwalla smoothies at dominicks and they are really good. anyone drink them? i havent tried the Protein One yet, but the Strawbetty C Monster was awesome.

Unfortunately in thinking about my food and what I eat, i have found i have a mini-marshmallow addiction! dont know how it started but for the last couple of weeks, whenever I want something sweet I have some marshmallows! it can't be normal.

Hi Everyone! I will be a October Bander too. I get my date on Monday the 25th of October. ( Unless another problem pops up ) I get released this Friday from sleep Apnea. Then I can bring my letter to the surgeon, and she will call me Monday. YEA! I have been waiting about 4 months. You sure do have to jump though the hoops!!!

I have started my own diet this week, just to slow down before the liquids. I would love to know from everyone what is the best liquid to buy. I am at the MMPC in Grand Rapids, Michigan and have been on their liquid diet 2 yrs ago, so I am not looking forward to their products, even though they aren't that bad. I was on it for 4 months. Well anyway, my Surgeon said it would be the middle of October. I will let you know My DATE ASAP.

Congrats to all!! I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but I am sort of excited to start the Protein shake pre-surg diet. Weird? I guess it is because I know that my surgery and new healthier me will be right around the corner once I start it.

I went to Wal-Mart today and bought the coolest new blender. It has 12 speeds, one of which is an ice crusher :omg: It also has a food processor attachment, which I am sure will come in handy when I get to the mushy food stage.

Btw... if any of you haven't checked out the recipe section of the forum, you really should. I already have some good ideas for later and some for even now.

Take care everyone!

Hi everyone!!

I will be banded on October 12th will start my pre op diet on the 28th. I have been eating all kinds of stuff as if I'll never eat again. Thank goodness I haven't gained any weight.

My husband will be banded the same day as me I'm first he's second. Very exciting time. We have a 5 year old daughter and hope to be more active with her. Who know once we drop some weight she might get a sibling.

Hi everyone! I don't have my surgery scheduled but I am hoping for October 25. I sent the piece of info to the insurance company today so I be able to schedule next week. I had an upper GI today and that is all the pre-op testing I needed.

I look forward to getting to know all of you through this journey!

mzsmartypantz~

I am getting a little excited about the shakes in a weird way too!

I have been pigging out on a *last supper syndrome* binge for the past month, knowing that the surgery would be around the corner, so I am getting *fed up* (pun intended) with things that are bad for me!

Today I did my barium swallow (ewww!), my echo, ekg, and bloodwork, my consult with the exercise physiologist, and I had to re-schedule for the psych. eval, but that will be next week, as well as my meeting with the dietician. ~whew!~ Then all my pre-op stuff will be over and then it's on to meeting with my surgeon again, and preparing for the big day. It kind of bothers me that they haven't given me the date yet, but I am sure that I will know that very soon. It's like waiting for a baby, I just want to know when and start getting ready!

Well all, now that October Thread has been started I can now say, my surgery is scheduled October 30. Makes it seem more real. I am awaiting final approval from insurance, however, all preop testings have been done. I have my final preop with Surgeon on October 13. I have been trying to weight watcher it since I am supposed to be down 10% by surgery date. Think I'll do the Protein liquid diet after final pre op.

Good Luck to All!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
