August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was Tuesday. Just wondering if any of you who are already sleeved had a "foamy" mouth and throat after?? I don't know wht it means but my PA said it happens. I want to know when it'll go away because itoften caus more nausea for me. :(

I also have such a swollen sleeve that if I have more then one tiiiiiny sip of Water my chest/asophagus burns. :( so I'm having a hard time taking anything in. Also anything besides water (and even water t times) is making me sick. Even while on zofran.

I also keep getting a light fever... Which is apparently normal but it just is another thing to add to the list... :(

Bethany I have different issues but swelling is one of them. Today they gave me Valium and liquid ibuprofen because they feel the benefits will out weigh the risks. I was able to eat a few ounces of yoghurt today and got in six ounces of Water for the first time. You might ask about it.

So glad to hear that you are doing well. It will really get better every day. Take care and rest up as much as you can.

Thanks! It has gotten better each day. I had to stay in the hospital two nights because I couldn't keep anything down. I dealt with gas pains the first night but after that no pain....only nausea. The nausea is gone today and I'm keeping liquids down so it is so true what you and everyone else says....its gets better each day. Thanks for the support!

Well we are still enjoying Tijuana the girls I have met here are amazing strong loving women and their spouses are wonderful . I feel pretty darn groovy for the most part I have grumbly gas that creeps up my chest but am working it out. I am focusing on hydration and the magical moment my drain will be pulled. My husband says I am smiling more since I had my surgery than I have in a long time . I think it's because I have a tool now that will make my efforts bare fruit . Yukon and I are playing with the idea of getting tattoos here lol we are having a blast :) faith is wonderful and kind and llm is amazing and strong and her spouse is super sweet sigh I am so glad I have found all of you online. And found my Mexican posse here this week sweet dreams guys I am going for a few more laps

My surgery was Tuesday & was discharged yesterday at 12. So far my biggest issue is nausea. Have a prescribing for Zofran & it helps.

The other issue is my post-op weight had me at 220.5, so I gained nearly 10 pounds! I am sure it is from IV fluids.

My first two days after i felt like my mouth was puffy. At some point either they scratched my tongue and lip or i bit them... both areas ulcerated. As soon as the nausea went away i brushed my whole mouth basically to make it feel not so yucky. My surgery was monday and I'm just now able to take about an ounce of liquid at a time. I would get a tight cramp in my chest. They also repaired a hiatal hernia and the nurse said thats probably really swollen and causing that problem. I'm ready for these stomach spasms to go away. Warm broth seemed to help yesterday. Hang in there it slowly gets better.

I was sleeved on Tuesday a di must say the1st 24 hours were the worst I have ever experienced. And I've had a lot of surgeries so that is saying something. But everyone is right once you get past the first day it gets much better. I had dry heaves the first day constantly. The zofran, patch, and protonix never helped. I finally told them no more drugs and let my system just get rid of everything. Now I'm about to go home and u feel a thousand times better. I can't get in a ton of Water but I am getting about 30 onces in. I really feel like once I stopped tAking all he pain meds and stuff thT really helped. Hope others don't have these issues because that first day I was really regretting this. But so much better now.

Hey sleevers,

(some TMI)

My surgery was the 28th (Tuesday) and I have been so miserable. All I want to do is sleep... I force myself up to walk around the room every hour or two and take deep breaths, half the time using the spirometer.

seems like everything makes me throw up even though I am on zofran,

I started using the subpositories and it works better... Just had a Popsicle, it was so nice to have a non-nasty taste in my mouth for once and know I'm getting some liquids at the same time.

I do have problems with taking all of my meds and Vitamins without throwing them back up.. :( I still have "foam" in my mouth and when I throw up, it's just more foam.

Anyway, I just wanted to see if it is a normal thing for us to feel so miserable the first few days or weeks? Thank you!

Ps: if this didn't all make sense i blame the drugs!

Don't worry. I was the same way. . . only I was taking phenagren and zofran and even turning on the TV made me throw up. The spirometer. . . forget about it! I could not speak, move or think, much less drink without vomiting. . . well actually, dry heaving, because I was beyond empty. My doctor told me that 2-5% of people react that way and that it is mostly due to the anesthesia. I spent 2 nights in the hospital (my surgery was on a Tuesday too) and finally went home late Thursday afternoon. Even then, it took me a couple more days for the nausea to subside. Subside, however, it did. Yours will too. Hang in there.

Bethany: I had the same experience. Everything made me nauseous, even gas x strips. They finally gave me Ativan ( sublingual ) and Toradol for pain which is non narcotic. Narcotic pain meds can make you more nauseous. That combo made all the difference for me and I immediately began to feel better. I was throwing that frothy crap, all meds, and anything else I swallowed. The Ativan did the trick.

I hope they find something that works for you soon!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
