Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm not referring to the poster who talks about their success on their WEIGHTLOSS journey. I'm talking to the ones who compare their results to others and assume they must be doing so etching wrong since their lbs aren't melting the away like everyone else...

In happy that everyone is losing weight. That's the sole reason why I created this thread was to ensure that everyone stays together, motivates and assist each other on their journey to freedom.

I just need the pessimists to understand that their results won't be the same as everyone else's BUT they will lose the weight if they continue to follow the methods and suggestions we all share as a community. April Sleevers us the biggest thread on this board and provides the most assistance.

So to all of you are feeling down, don't stress it I garantee you will lose the weight and reach your goal.

Remember our body composition is different but out goals will ALWAYS remain the same!

Keep ya head up... We are here to help!

April 27th here and doing great!

Down 55.3 lbs post op and 16 lbs pre op. So that's 71.3 lbs total. My shirt size before was a 30/32 and now it's between a 1x or a size 22. My pants were a 26 and now they're a 20 and even those are becoming a smidgen to loose. I keep fluctuating 3-4 lbs but I believe that's due to TOM.. I'd like to see more pounds dropped but when I think about it 55 lbs in 3 months is holy craptastic amazing!! lol I have to constantly remind myself of this...lol

I spoke with my surgeon and found that my inability to get in my Proteins from meat is not uncommon. Has anyone experienced the same issue please give me some ideas.

Meat is normally how I get all my Protein in. I buy these steak strips from Walmart and 3oz of that is about 19g of protein. I eat that 3 x's a day and that get's me a total of 57g's... I also eat green veggies as a snack and also a tiny bit of carbs and fat because I want my diet to be well balanced as much as possible..Then some time later in the day I'll have my protein shake..which is 25g's and that brings me to a total of 82g's plus whatever protein I'm getting from the veggies.. So I say I average between 82-90g's a day....My diet is pretty strict and routine because of this, but they're all foods that I like and it's working for me...

Have you figured out a way to get all your protein in?

kiki - 3 week stall! Ugh!

I've been plugging right along. Every day the scale scoots down just a bit. From surgery (4/10) I'm down 52 pounds to 172. Finally I weigh less than my husband!! I can feel bones I have never felt before. On a funny note (boys, cover your eyes) when I lie on my back, my boobs have shrunk and tend to slide to the sides, but I now have my rib cage poking up, that looks like low boobs. Well, can't have everything, right?! At least my ribs are my highest part when I'm on my back instead of a tummy mountain.

Shopping has been weird. I've nearly shrunk past all of the clothes I had that were too small. I've picked up a few things at Target but I'm not sure what size to buy. And the selection! Isn't it strange to be able to shop the whole department?! Before, it was "Well, this fits, I guess I'll take it." Now I can hardly decide what to buy because everything fits. Amazing.

With food, I'm still sticking to soft Protein. I've got years to eat chicken and all that. I want to eat easy food that I know will make me feel good. Good luck everyone - we're doing great!!

What do you mean by soft protein?

What do you mean by soft Protein?

Soft protein: cottage cheese, greek yogurt, scrambled egg, tofu...

I also have no problem with what I call ABC meat. Already Been Chewed. :D And no, it's not really been chewed, but it's been ground. Like a turkey burger or turkey tacos. And Protein Bars are easy to eat, too. It's those fibers in meat that make it so hard to digest.

I saw my son today, he's been out of town since the beginning of may and the first thing he said was I look so small. I know I'm still big but that made me feel good :-)

On March 28, 2012, I had my pre-op consult, which officially started my journey! I am now halfway to goal and I couldn't be happier.

I used to get frustrated while getting ready for work because I didn't like how my clothes fit because they were too tight. Now, I have to try on my clothes out of my back closet, once too small, to make sure they fit and aren't too sloppy. Never imagined that problem.

Everyone in April is doing so well! Keep on working hard!!

Joni - I'm going to be right with you on the slow award. I started at 262 as my highest weight and have lost 48 pounds so far. I think you are losing less because you had less to lose to begin with. At least you are halfway - YAY! My goal is also 140 so I have 74 pounds to go. Perhaps I haven't been the strictest with my diet but I want to have a little fun along the way.

Everybody is different and i'm very pround of you!!!

Randi - I'm with you! I haven't been the strictest either. I indulge in carbs at times and other things that others would not do, but that's me and I'm still determined to get to goal. It's so very true we are all on this journey together, but we follow our own paths to get there. I just love the support here!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
