Yes. It is listed on their website along with the Thursday one at the hospital. If you go to the website, it tells the date, time, location, and topic.

That is sure a better day for me than the 4th Thursday - I have a standing meeting on that night and do not want to give up my quilting guild! I'll look into the Northland group - may see you there next Wednesday. Thanks!

I'm going to stick with the group at Shawnee Mission, I don't venture up North much.

I can't go this month. I volunteered to provide refreshments for my quilt guild this month. I will plan for either the SM group or the northland group in October. I really don't want to give up my 4th Thurs - have been in this quilt guild for about 10 years! Have fun and learn a lot!

Hey, I am going to be there tomorrow. I have been super busy with the wedding. I just got done with my final dress fitting and have it at my aunts house just waiting for the day of the wedding. It is getting down to the wire and if anyone attending from group needs directions let me know. We got the license and have met with the Rev. and photographer. Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow.

Hi all,

My first group was last month and it was great! I think I remember seeing a few of you there

I have some questions for you all that have been through KC Bariatric. I have finally been to all appointments and have been approved by insurance. I meet with Dr. Hoen on 11/19 and get my surgery date then. When you all had your appointment with him and got your date...how far off from that appointment was your surgery date? Trying to get an idea since Thanksgiving and CHristmas is right after that.

Thanks!

Nancy

If I am remembering correctly, I think I had to wait about a month between my first consult and the surgery, give or take a week. During that time, I had to finish up the necessary appointments with Dr. Sabapathy. Congratulations to getting closer!

I was self pay and once I got the appt with Dr. Hoen, my surgery date was set for within a month. Of course that was in Feb 2007 and there are a few things that are different now because of the other dr. leaving. I think thou that they have gotten everyone scheduled as best as they can with the situation. I know that everyone says to just be patient but it is true that is all you can do. Your day is coming and we will all Celebrate with you. See you at the next meeting.

I was scheduled for surgery within four weeks of receiving insurance approval. Looking forward to meeting you at the next support group meeting on Thursday!

Just wanted everyone to know that I plan on coming to the support group meeting tonite. I'm wearing my red shirt if anyone wants to look me up. I'm not sure that I know any of you except for Erika and I have seen Jeannette even though I haven't introduced myself. Maybe I'll get around to doing that tonite, lol.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
