July 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

My doctor told the ideal weight loss is 2 pounds a week. He put it as 8 pounds a month but I guess that is the same. I wish I could lose faster than that too but I haven't been losing at all so I really would like to lose more at first. You on the other hand have already lost some so I would say keep up the good work. I was only on liquids for 2 weeks and then 4 weeks on mushies and now I am supposed to be on real food but I got a fill and I am back on liquids. I think you are doing great. But I would get another fill soon.

Beth - sorry to hear you had a rough day :( I had a "fat" day - I'm feeling rather bloated as it is almost that TOM again... I get it more frequently as a side effect from having cortisone so often. TMI? Anyway - I drank 3 shakes today - 48+ oz of Water, rode my bike for 30 min, ate string cheese and a banana. Just not hungry today. I hope you have a better day tomorrow!

I'm having 2 friends over tomorrow to stamp cards all day and into the evening. One of the friends is doing Slim Fast with her hubby - they say they have jumped on my band wagon. So she'll use my Magic Bullet tomorrow to make a shake. Not sure what we'll do for dinner - maybe order some Chinese - I haven't had any of that since my surgery and a little bit sounds good. We'll see.

Hi all:

I was without the website for almost 24 hours (once on home page could not access threads) and talk about withdrawal!!!!! I know I really don't know you guys personally but I missed reading your posts. I unfortunately can't do support groups so THIS IS IT!!!! Glad to be back!!!!

Beth...how long did you go without losing. It is 3 weeks for me and I am so discouraged. I am almost convinced something must be wrong!!!! I see the surgeon this week.....hoping for a fill appointment!!!

Have a good week.

Ruthie Iwent 4 weeks without losing a pound. I would tell my doctor that you need a fill. Don't ask him if you can get one tell him you need one. I can sure tell the difference. It has been hard adjusting to the difference but in the end it will be worth it. Go get a fill as soon as you can.

I am so glad that the site is back up. I have had withdrawal as well. I hope it doesn't do it again. I hope that all of you have done good this weekend and I am anxiously waiting to hear all that has been going on with all of you. Do tell!!

:D I am very excited. As I posted earlier, DH and I both got fills on Friday. As of this morning, DH has lost 12 lbs and I have lost 6! I cannot believe it! :omg: I thought we were both being pretty good about watching calories and all that, but neither of us was losing ANY weight in the past 3 weeks waiting for the fill. Crazy, but now it all seems to be coming off. I know this will not keep up, but it is lovily while it does.

Thanks Beth for the advice regarding not asking but telling doctor about a fill. I will do just that.

Having an "eeh" weekend. School starts soon and my dh's caregiver (dh had a stroke and is disabled) quit after four and a half years. Finding a replacement that is affordable, reliable, good, dh likes and I feel I can trust has been tough. It has rained (more like poured) all weekend and just kinda symbolizes the way I feel. No weight loss and worries. Blah.

NSV though if I MUST be positive (lol)- we went to a pool party today (yes, in the pouring rain!!!!) and I did not allow myself to indulge in all the good party appetizer stuff. I stuck to Proteins, a little bit of bean salad, a little fruit and drank my liquids. I was so proud of me!!!! That is why I told a lot of people about my banding. I know they are watching and I am so pitiful about will power so it works for me. So yea for me. My first party and I did not die from leaving off those dips, spreads, and other lucious appetizers!!!.

Hope all of you had a good weekend....it's nice to have this forum back!!!!

HI all, Going for my first fill tomorrow, thank God!

Seems like since I hit 4 weeks out from surgery(surgery date 7/17/06), I"ve been HUNGRY and like a bottomless pit. Embarrassed to say i'm almost back to my old eating habits. Been trying to control myself but feeling discouraged. I just read a post that said after getting a fill this lady lost 6 lbs and weight seems to be falling off. Can it be true? I'll actually lose weight? I'm almost terrified to get on the scale tomorrow for fear of what it might say and then getting reamed(sp?) out by the PA at my Docs office. Anyway, wish me luck.

i finally got my 1st fill on friday yea!!! i went in for my fill last mon, and the dr couldn't get the needle in the port just right so he couldn't do the fill so i had to reschedule the fill at the hospital so he could use the flouroscope my dr and his wife are both band drs so she was the one to actually do the fill on friday and she had no problems. it is so nice not to be so hungry!!! hopefully now i will start losing again. my hormones have been so screwy since the surg. i think i'm the only 53 woman to have a regular TOM lately!!!

i stopped tking my hormones because of that being an issue with weight loss. maybe my system will get all straighten out soon i think i need to apply for membership for the SLOW LOSERS CLUB!!

Does anyone of the female persuasion still get the urge to eat when your TOM is coming? I haven't had that much today (2 shakes), but I made tuna salad this morning and it tasted so good and I had about a cup of it 3 different times today! I don't feel over stuffed at all, but I do feel just, well - puffy!! I'm sure it's just a temporary thing, but I sure don't feel like I've lost almost 50 lbs! I'm afraid to weigh tomorrow...

Tomorrow I go back to work after 8 weeks off for the summer! I can't believe it's finally time! It's my first summer off as I just started my job last year on August 22nd. I have a week of 6 hour days filled with preparation and then the kids start on the 5th. In addition to being a secretary for one of four principals in the middle school, I am the Records Secretary - all transfering in or out students' files have to be processed through me. There is supposed to be the year-long secretary handling the transfers during the summer, but I have reason to believe she didn't do much with them, so I'll be a busy girl!

I hope I can sleep tonight!

Hey Guys!

Stesti and I went shopping yesterday and it was just the motivation we needed!! We were both so excited to try on clothes in much smaller sizes!! I even bought a skirt (not elastic waist!) in a 20, when I was banded I would have been in a 24/26/even a 26/28 depending on the brand!

Also, smaller sized bras were needed and now that we have them we have new smaller and visible waists!!!

I highly recomend going clothes shopping to boost your spirits!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
