HI everyone,

Renee here, being banded day after tomorrow 19/08. Very excited, can't wait to start the journey - slightly afraid of the surgery.

Nice meeting you all!

Well, I did it! Was banded yesterday morning and was home by 3:00 or so. Pain really isn't that bad though it can be difficult to find a comfortable position to sit in....lol. The only thing that has really bothered me is taking really deep breaths but its getting better.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how good I feel. I wouldn't say I'm 100% by any means, but I was expecting to feel a lot worse. I slept a good bit yesterday but am trying to get up every couple of hours and walk around.

To all those getting banded soon, good luck -- you'll do great!

:(

Hey everyone! I am scheduled for my band on August 27th. I am so excited. I get on here everyday most of the time 3 or 4 times a day. Its so interesting to read everyones story & see how happy they are. Im so ready to be healthy, well i really wanna say SKINNY! I cant wait to go shopping. My girls keep picking with me saying now when i take them shopping to their stores i will do some shopping for myself as well at those same stores! Dont get me wrong, im not gonna dress like a teenager, but i do want to look nice & turn my husbands head again. He has never been mean, ugly or said anything negative to me while being overweight. He has loved me the same way since we got married. Well i am so excited to be a part of this new family. I will keep everyone posted on my journey! God Bless!

I am getting nervous. My doctor said they turned in all my paperwork over a week and a half ago and said it would only take a few days to a week max to get approval. Well when I called the insurance today they informed me they just got the file last friday and it may take another week or so to be approved... My problem is my pre op appt with the surgeon is on Wednesday and my surgery is set for the 26th. When I spoke with my my doctors office they informed me not to worry and I should have no problems getting approved and we are keeping the date. I am starting my week pre op diet tomorrow (few days early) and the stress is starting to add up. The date is coming up super fast and I have no idea if I will be approved or even how much I have to pay out of pocket yet.. no one will tell me anything until I get the approval! Am I just making a big deal out of nothing?

My insurance took a while to come through too, but if you know your insurance covers it and you have done the requirements to be qualified I wouldn't worry about too much. Even if the date does change at least you are still getting banded. So don't stress and try to relax before the big day. Let us know what happens.

Hey guys! I just got settled into my hotel room, trying to relax a little before surgery tomorrow. I had a great pre-op appt with my surgeon. Down another 6 pounds thanks to my 7 day pre-op diet. My surgery is at 7:30 and I have to be at the hospital at 6.

The next time I sign on I will be one of the few...the proud...the BANDED!!!! lol

Well I got the call this morning and my insurance finally approved the surgery!!! BIG relief for me and just in time since my appt with the surgeon is tomorrow, I was worried that I would have paid the surgeon their fees and then would have been denied... Whew!

Hello all! I will be banded the 24th and so counting down the days! I have to be at the surgery center at 10:30 a.m. for a 1:30 pm surgery! I may not get home until later in the evening. I'm on a two-week high Protein diet with two shakes during the day and a light meal for dinner. I'm down a few pounds but cheated miserably over the weekend. I'm sticking to it this week and not cheating.

Two years ago I had the Realize Band for 48 hours and then had some complications from a lacerated small intestine from the surgery. Subsequently, I had the band removed and had to have extensive small bowel resection and spent a week in the hospital. Here I am now, healed up from that and will be Lap-Banded the 24th of this month. I am having some deep anxiety about it, but I have a great surgeon and will place all of my trust in him.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
