does anyone feel that one is better than the other? i've been told that oriz only uses the 10cc band, so i'm assuming that's what i'm gonna get when i get banded dec 13th. it makes me fear that i'll need more fills than a 4cc band before i feel restriction. anybody? thanks, suki

I need some help, gang....I stopped taking Prozac after having been on it since 1991 (holy cow, that's 14 years). Anyhow, I was fine the first few weeks since the drug was still in my body, but now I don't know if I am missing the Prozac or just going through a tough time. All I want to do is cry (and I have done plenty of that), I am bitchy, I don't want to be around people, and I am eating more!!! These are my classic symthoms... I spoke to my PCP about going back on the Prozac, but he said I do risk dealing with the weight issue while on Prozac.....I can't take that chance. I know this is very personal, but is anyone taking an antidepressant that has not affected t…

Sabotage. I started this process very positively almost 5 months ago but over the past couple of months I have found myself sabotaging my ‘possible’ success at every turn. Although my surgeon offered a couple of dietetic sessions as part of the surgical ‘package’ there was no psychological assessment and support and I realise now, that this is perhaps the most important issue. I don’t blame him – it is hard to understand that weight issues can be in the head as much as the stomach. Feeling full isn’t my problem so much as feeling deprived. I am desperately trying to work out... Why do I sabotage myself? Why do I turn back to familiar self-destructive habi…

Only left 3 cookies for my family. :nervous (shoulda heard me explaing this to my KIDS) Cookie by cookie, they went down the hatch. I wasnt hungry - not even a little! They werent even good - just tasted like heated sugar. I wasnt bored, Im not having any major personal issues, not time for pms... WHY???? Why did I eat all that crap? the only thing that…

I've about decided that Boise, Idaho is not the place to get my lap banding done, even though it is my home. I'm discouraged with the doctors here and their lack of caring and attitude about not wanting a Medicare patient. Between them they have only done a little over 100 lap band surgeries which doesn't instill a lot of trust. They were taught by Dr. Emma Patterson who is a lap banding surgeon, who accepts Medicare, and is located in Portland. OK, I know I have to fly up and see the dr. at some point, and then return for the surgery. All of my prelim tests can be done here. What I would like to find is someone to attend the seminar for me on Jan. 10 at 6:00 PM. …

  7. Ok, I feel I can finally talk about this and get the support that I need to get through this issue. Last Sunday night my beloved grandmother and best friend passed away. I had only told one person on the board (thank you Kira)and she gave some awesome advice, but felt like I needed to come clean with all my friends here on LBT. I have fel like a fraud this week giving anybody any advice on the band because I haven't been doing very well at all with mine this week. You might as well say I have ate like I didn't even have one. Since I have a VG band, I don't have any real restriction with just 3.4 ccs and I wasn't even going to go have another fill done until after Thank…

THese dr's offices are so slow at returning calls though. If I go with him, I know 2006 will be the earliest. Also, i think he requires and Endo instead off Chakly UGI. First, they don't return my emails, or calls. Then they said PCP didn't submitt paper work, now they say dr still has my file. I asked if it's normal for this to take 4 weeks, just to get a file together. So, I'm giving it until Jan 1st. I figure if the paperwork is on it's way to the insurance, I will check with them after thanksgiving. This is a fulltime job trying to organize to have surgery. It's been almost 2 weeks since I've been banded. I've been healing pretty well, but I'm concerned about a funny bump on my abdomen. It's not the port - I can feel that. It's another area to the left of it. Is the band? Are you supposed to feel the band through your skin? I am going to the doctor tomorrow to see about it. Did it slip? Can anyone who has had a slipped band tell me if this is a sign? It's not really painful unless I press on it. Thanks in advance for any answers.

He is still in the process of making my upper GI and nutritionist appt. I am praying if I have everything done by the 21st that I can get my approval and surgery by the end of the year. If not- I am out alot of $$!!!!. But I think it is worth a try. Did anyone's insurance pay for any of these pre-things? Again, thank you for the encouragement. I check on here every day to make sure ya'll are all ok. One more thing- did anyone have to have a sleep study?

I can understand the no beer thing, and also understand alcohol having empty calories. From the healing band standpoint wouldnt the wine just go straight through to my stomach? The only information I can find in my info packet is: "You must also avoid alcoholic drinks, not only are they very caloric but they irritate your stomach. I have heard people talk alot about feeling restriction after a fill. What exactly doe this mean. It seems to me that it would be the feeling of being full after eating a small amount. Or is it when you eat so much that you throw up. Can someone elaborate on what restriction feels like to you and how do you know when you don't feel resticted. Also, What is PBing and slimming I have seen people use these terms but I'm not sure what they mean. Is it short for throwing up? Please help!

I was given a lap-banded booklet before surgery for post op diet which I was prepared for the 2 weeks clear fluid but when I checked out of the hospital they said clear liquids for only 2 days and then soft food. I called the doctors office before this 2 day period was over and talked to a nurse and she said that I could start soft foods after 2 days. Well then I went for my 1 week post op appt and the doctor (not the same doctor that did my surgery) said I should have been on clear liquids for another week but since I had started so…

It was a very relaxed atmosphere and I was talking to the nutritionist and another pt when Dr Ortiz came out, sat down and started visiting with us. We of course peppered him w/ questions and he asked us about our experiences. One of the the things he said that really shocked me was he said he doesn't think aspirin is a problem and that the band is outside the stomack so NSAIDS don't affect it. I am setting a few challenges for myself. I've been driving myself absolutely insane by counting every single calorie that goes into my body. (an almond has 6.3 calories.) I've also been super restictive with my diet, doing my best to stay between 1000-1200 calories a day. All of this has provided me with an average of 5 ounces lost a week since May; and stress beyond what is good for anybody. (an egg has 70 calories) So, my challenges are that I will stop counting calories for a month, I will actively ignore my caloric intake until Dec 1, after Thanksgiving break.
