Hello, My family is really making me reconsider my choice for surgery. The only person that supports my decision right now is my husband. My surgery is scheduled for April 15th. My surgery is self pay and is going to cost me around $21,000. My mom wants me to instead of going through the drastic surgery, spend the money on a nutritionist and personal trainer. She says if they can do it on like The Biggest Loser, if I higher a personal trainer and do it that way that it would be so much cheaper and safe. She says she knows that I can do it because I spent all last year working out at a gym, but I just need the extra support of a personal trainer. What should I d…

Hello My name is Michelle and I'm new to this forum. I started my WLS journey in Oct 09, when I had my first consultation in Luton, England. I'm due to see my doctor on Friday, 26th March 2010 when he should tell me the date for my surgery. I'm still not sure if the VS is for me or I should have the bypass. I've read so much about the VS and therefore leaning towards it. The bypass scares me, because of the re-arranging of the intestines. I want this to be the answer and yet I know it's a tool and requires me to work with it. However, there is a little voice inside my head that doubts that I can do it, that I can loose all my weight that has destroyed my life so far. …

What are you able to take with you on the plane? 3. How long before you were able to drive? 4. What can I do to assure I have a speedy recovery? As the date gets closer...it seems I have all kinds of questions I appreciate your assistance! Liz

If I'm not on the boards reading, I'm thinking about being on the boards reading, or how can I make my work schedule correspond to having surgery sooner, and and and....etc.... I assume because of the vastness of all the decisions, changes etc that the obsession is totally normal, but sheesh I feel like a crazy lady. It's a good thing my friends love me or they might shoot me for my one track mind.

Sooooo everyone has come to the basic conclusion that if you have your receipt of payment for your passport, a government issued photo id, and your birth certificate boarder patrol will let you back in the country. My question is what about a receipt for the payment of the card that they are giving out for ground and sea travel now? On the passport website it explains that the card is ust for land travel to MX and CA, and for sea travel to a few other places. Since I am driving into MX, I think it should count. It is only like 45 buck, and I am needing to be cheap, I am self pay = / U.S. Passport Card Any Ideas???

  7. Hello All! I have been lurking on this board for the past couple months, and now I am finally ready to "tell my story"! I am so excited for my upcoming sleeve surgery NEXT SATURDAY (OMG!!!!!) This is going to be such an exciting step. I have been overweight since I was about 12 years old and battled with low self-confidence and low self-esteem off and on for the past 25 years or so. My mother was pretty disgusted with my weight- almost to an obsessive degree- and throughout my teen years we fought about my weight all the time. Our relationship is still strained from those years of her dragging me to Weight Watchers, making me stand on the scale so she could see ho…

Hello all. I feel great. No more nausea or difficulty swallowing. I have lost 14 lbs since surgery. One week ago to day. I really can't believe how good I feel. I haven't taken any pain meds in 3-4 days. My staples are out. I have had a BM and drinking liquids like a maniac. I know my body is different. I don't have food cravings and hardly ever hungry. Having to keep up with Protein is a chore but drinking the powder whey and getting the clear isupure is a big help. I plan on using the protein shots in with my pink lemonade or peach diet packets sugar free of course. I have to more weeks of liquids. I will start my smoothies next week when I get home. Ok we all know, no matter what type of anti-virus software you have or what computer of whatever that Google and places like that keep tabs on things that you search so that they can better advertise to you. Well the other day, a friend asked me how much I would like to weigh after this is all said and done, of course i'd "like" to weight 120 with 10 if it in my bra, but how unrealistic is that. I said I guess around 145/140 (although I still think that may be pushing unrealistic). Now of course I think about this all the time because my surgery is coming up. I have been overweight and miserable for years carrying between 360 and 376 lbs. I knew I had to do something or die, I was always out of breath and depressed all the time about the shape I was in. So Nov of 2009 I had had enough and went to a siminar and knew right then what I needed to do. I had surgery on Jan 14, 2010 and as of Mar 20, have lost 53 lbs. I am feeling good, walking better and do not get out of breath, I am starting to exercise for the first time in years. God bless Dr Holsaeter and his staff.

Is this the right step for me? I am unsure. My CHF is well controlled with medication, and my Blood pressure is fairly normal (132/76). My cholesterol and triglyscerides are low normal and always have been. It is the weight and the sleep apnea (Apnea led to heart damage) from it that are killing me. I have tried diets and excercise.
