I have been getting stuck alot. I try to eat slow, chew at least 20 bites each piece of food and eat small portions. Any advice? Is this called PB or sliming? My first fill is Dec 18. Will it get worse then

I was banded on November 17th and so far, so good. I seem to have good restriction right now, and I'm hoping that doesn't change TOO much when all the swelling goes down. I figure most of it must be down already since I'm doing so well. My first fill will be on January 6th so here's hoping I keep doing as well as I am now!

Yay, way to go! My first fill is on Friday! I've not lost 18lbs, but hopefully the doctor's scale will at least reflect the 10lbs that my scale at home shows!

Hey Notorious Novembers!:scared2:

Had my post-op appointment yesterday - was cleared to start mushies and ease into solid food over the next 2 - 4 weeks. First fill appointment scheduled for January 6th.

Kaitiana - we were banded on the same day, November 17th, and will get our first fills on the same day as well.

Now that I'm eating more 'bulk' I need to measure what I'm eating. I like Soup, so it's easy to just do that, but I know that isn't necessarily what's good for me. I've been cleared to go back to the gym and lift weights again, so I'm excited about that...

I have a goal to hit 230 by January 1st - it's going to be interesting. I'm not feeling a lot of restriction as I heal, and my 'head hunger' is roaring...but I can do this - I have my band to help!:cursing:

Hi all! I didn't check in over Thanksgiving. But I was the ONLY one in my family to LOSE weight!!! I lost two lbs the week after Thanksgiving. How great is that?!?!?! But I have been soooo much hungrier. I don't even see my doc for the first time until Dec. 22. Hopefully I will get a fill that day. I'm able to eat more and it's scaring me. I'm trying so hard to control it. And I have been working out. That has really made a difference. Well, I just wanted to check in. Hope everyone is doing well!

And I know someone has told me this already, but I can't find the right post- How do you keep from having to copy and paste the HTML code for the ticker every time you post? I can't find the signature button!!! Thanks!

Banded 11-07-08!

If you go up to CP, it will take you to the option area to edit your profile and everything. On the right you will see something about edit your signature. That is how I found it. I am stuck on putting my picture in the small box near your name. LOL! I think they should update this site a bit.

Thank goodness! They numb you!!! You don't know how great that is to read!!! I'm so bothered by needles - my skin is crawling just thinking about it. :tongue2: I hope my doctor cracks jokes to take my mind off of the whole thing! Keep me posted about how your fill treats you (do you get restriction, etc) because I'm anxious to know if this first fill will be a good one! I have to travel halfway across the country for my fills, so this thing better last more than 2 days, hahah!
.

Okay, Jaime. Just pretend this is your surgeon and you can stare at him the whole time. It takes your mind off the pain, believe me!:) hehehe His eyes are as blue as his tie.

Dr. Long, if you see this, you know I'm just kidding around. My honey is the cutest in the world, but you told me not to let ANYONE that's not licensed fill my band. *cough*

Is this where the Notorious Novembers are going to hang out for now on? I don't want to get left behind. :blushing:

I'm glad to have found you guys over here. I really should look around the forum more. D'OH!

Anyway........I hate the fact that my taste has changed. Has anyone else found that they can't stand the taste of SF stuff now? I'll want a little something just to tickle my tongue (stop it!) but, I can't stand the Jello, popsicles, even crystal light and stuff. :) The only thing that really satisfies me is regular ol' Water. It's disgusting! I've given up Diet Coke already and now I'm not even going to like sweets? I can't be totally healthy. Actually, I think I remember someone saying that your taste comes back. Does that sound familiar? I'll be happy to hate sweets. That will make my life sooooo much easier. I guess the head hunger is just messing with me.

I'm a single Mom and my daughter just came home from her Dad's yesterday. It's REALLY weird for me to be cooking her dinner and not eating it with her. Breakfast and lunch are not a big deal. Those cucumbers were calling my name tonight....

"Ginny......Ginny.......we're so fresh, crunchy and delicious.....don't waste us on the kid........"

That's okay, you little bas**rds! Call me all you want. I've been working on this for a long time and the likes of you are not going to screw me up.

:tongue2:

Sorry. It's after midnight and I need to go to bed. Things are starting to get a little weird, aren't they?

Good night. :sleep2:

I can pass on the advice I was given for while I start solids. I was told to look at my thumb nail, divide it into fourths and that is how big a bite of meat should be. That tiny. And then to chew it until liquid in my mouth. If it can't liquify, its too dry and will likely get stuck and I should not swallow it. Super moist, softer meats only if PBing is a problem...try chicken thighs, tenderloin, things in the slow cooker. Remember to take 20-30 minutes to finish 1/2 to 1 cup of food. If you are PBing often, eat slower, take smaller bites and chew longer.

I hope this gets better for you!

Mommy is the meat to dry? sometimes if it's to dry it's going to get stuck. My Dietician said if you find yourself PBing try lunchmeat it's then tends to be moist that will get your Protein in. If that doesn't work you may have to go to softer foods eggs, Yougart etc. Be honest with your Dr. and let them know what's going on or speak with the dietician. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing.:tongue2:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
