I had my mom in the hotel with me for 48hrs after surgery before we got back on the plane to fly home (I had surgery out of town). In all honesty, I wish she hadn't been there. Sounds bad, but I really didn't need her, and she was fussing over me so much (Can I get you this? Can I get you that?) that I just wanted to scream!

Joe is here taking care of me, but honestly, getting up and getting my own needs met gets me walking, which helps with the gas pain a LOT. I let him do some for me, but mostly am doing for myself. It helps get me moving.

Thanks, Ladies. This is all good to know. He's ALREADY driving me crazy and I haven't even had the surgery, yet. LOL! He's still sick as a dog and my surgery is in 34 hours. I don't want to stay at his house and get sick! Ain't gonna happen! :) He's very sweet for wanting to pamper me, but we both agreed tonight that I would probably end up taking care of him.

I have a girlfriend that is going to stay at my house to take care of my dog and all the other living beings under my roof. The worst case scenario would be that I stay at my house with her, we watch Gerard Butler movies all day and crack each other up. Sounds horrible. :)

Question..........how long before you were able to drive? It sounds like it's easy to get back on the road right away. :cool2:

Well tomorrow's the day! Guess I'm one of the group holding up the rear (surgery date that is). I have to tell you that all of your posts have been helpful. Thanks everyone. I have tried to prepare everything, ie have all the grocery needs here, so I won't have to go to the store till the weekend. I have an 11 year old and she is worried a lot about the surgery, I'm a widow and so there's no Dad to go to for comfort. My sister is coming to stay with me starting tonight, she'll drive me to the surgery center and pick me up and she said she'll stay as long as I need her. Just curious about mobility, 1, 2, 5 days out? Do you pretty much lay around the house or are you all doing stuff? I know lifting heavy stuff is out.

Joining you all after surgery tomorrow!:)

Hi everyone, I had my surgery the 19th, so 4 days into it and having no problems except the gas issue and went yesterday and got gas x. It amazes me how each doctor is different. My surgeon was Steven Clark here in Indianapolis, and one requirement before I left the hospital was I had to be able to eat 2 oz of full liquid items...I chose mashed potatoes and strained cream of chicken Soup. Kept them down and shortly thereafter left the hospital. I am on full liquids for 14 days, but it includes oatmeal, scrambled eggs, baby food meat, which isn't bad if you add salt or a little seasoning, yogurt and sugar free applesauce. I find myself forcing myself to eat, I am not hungry either, but then I think the shakes I drink 3 times a day helps also. I will be anxious to go to doctor tomorrow to see how much weight I have lost this first week

you may think I am crazy but I have been told to walk, walk, and walk, so day after surgery, I went to mall with my mom and a friend to just get out of the house, I don't sit still very well, I got a shopping cart and pushed it around to hold on to and sit down occasionally, but I walked and was tired when I got home, but I think it has helped with the soreness also. I go outside everyday at least three times and walk, I havent tried the basement stairs yet to do laundy but have had help with that, but I have to do stairs to go up to bed and Ijust do them slowly.

Yeah, they moved me to one of the last surgery slots of the day due to being young and having no comorbidities. I was NOT happy about that, but it turned out okay in the end. I just really didn't want to sit around dreading it all morning. I was very anxious. So I went Christmas shopping until it was time to go to the surgery center.

I can't imagine having to fly after surgery! My drive home was 30 minutes and I almost up-chucked from that. You poor thing! He will call in Phenargan for you if you want it. I had him do it, only needed it once or twice, but now am glad to have it in case I get a stomach flu this winter or spring.

I am feeling pretty good this morning. The port pain is much less upon waking today and my bruising has improved a LOT just overnight. I am going to take my first shower since surgery in a minute here. Still not interested in any kind of food. I tried a couple of bites of SF Jello this morning and bleh. Didn't want it. My tummy is making all kinds of funky noises this morning and I am passing gas like a champ. lol! The bloating of my belly is noticably less. I hope to get Joe to take me out to the store to walk and Christmas shop a little bit if I feel up to it later on.

Hi All!

My surgery was Thursday, November 6th with Dr. Paya at West Hills Hospital in California. No complications so far and I feel great! Back up to 1 1/2 mile walk 4 - 5 times a week and looking to get back up to 3 miles in a week or so.

Good Luck All!

My surgery is at 8:30 tomorrow morning...I'm not really as nervous as I could be. It kind of comes and goes. I'm more anxious about the prospect of surgery, than about the actual band. I've never even broken a bone! Wish me luck everybody. I'll be sure to let you all know how I'm doing on Tuesday when I'm back at home.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
