Didn't they say somewhere that the typical lapbander loses 60% of their goal weight? Is that just some crap I have grabbed onto for an excuse.

Nope, thats the statistics, 60% sometimes 70%, but the average is 60%. grrrrrr.

I've managed to lose 80%, however - I want 100%!!!! I've done pretty good on eating, but exercise - lets just say, "what exercise". I am sucking!

I was banded January 18, 2007...and had port replacement surgery on July 6, 2009. I feel like I have gotten a second start on loosing weight. I say that because for like 6 months I didn't have any restriction except for like 3 days after a fill then nothing, Port was leaking. Now I have a question for someone anyone...I just switched Protein because I was needing a new flavor and stuff, so I'm liking muscle milk right now and the question is...Is anyone using and loosing with muscle milk?

I have drinken muscle milk, I really like it, however, it is full of calories. Make sure you are drinking the lite muscle milk, it has a lot less calories.

Congratulations on getting a new port. Have you always had the leak? Or did it come later?

Oh, by the way, we are band twins - I was banded 1/18/07 too!

Congrats to you on your new pregnancy!! I would think with running after kids you'd drop weight in no time.

Hi Confused...welcome to our group...I've not tried muscle milk. I use EAS brand of Protein powder..vanilla and just add stuff to it. Lots of people use different things. I think you have to read what is in it and see if it is the good stuff. I used to, in the olden days, use Slim Fast..well, when I got the band, I started reading labels and I think slim fast is mostly sugar.

Congrats on your new port and your new journey.

the leak must have come later. For like 6 months I would only have restriction after a fill then 3 days later nothing...I gained back like 14 pounds. Since surgery and seeing the doctor a week after had already lost 4 pounds. That's really cool have never met anyone that has the same date as me, our weights were almost the same...mine starting weight was 233.9/154.2now but I have been down to 144.

Confused - I wish I could say that I have been down to 144 - i would be at goal!!!!! I am pretty much sticking to 155 to 159, I bounce around those numbers, I need to just stick with the program so I can get to goal!

On a good note, I did go exercise last night, first time in about a month. Eating has been very good this week, last week - well, not so good.

How is everyone else doing? Sorry that I haven't been on in awhile, work is just so crazy these days. I've been working so many hours and trying not to "stress" eat. Last week, I went thru an entire box of chocolates - in ONE DAY!

My goal weight for myself is 140, but the doctor says NO that he wants me down to 125. Right now I'm struggling with the 156-154. I weigh myself every morning and yeah I know I should throw the scale out and stop, I'm so bad with the scale that I even weight myself before bed to see how much I ate and gained that way I can beat myself up before I fall asleep. Then of course if the scale isn't so nice in the morning that starts the mood for the day. I just can't seem to get my groove back for the whole program. I still workout like a mad woman and I think my body is changing, I thought that 2 months ago when I had to get weighted and measured well it changed alright wrong...she claimed I gained like 6 inches. I go next week for that fun again, and once again I think my body is changing...we'll see in which direction this time.

confused - how tall are you?

I'm between 5'5" - 5'6", I am wearing a size 8 at 155 lbs - 163 lbs. Anymore than 163 and the 8's are tight and I am wearing my 10's again. I think if I get down to 145 I will be in a 6. Wow, me a size 6? Thats so weird to even think about.

Hang in there with the exercise and try not to get discouraged with your measurements. I have learned that sometimes you just got to go on "how you feel", not by the tape measure, or the scales.< /p>

I'm a scale whore too by the way. I weigh myself at least 2 times a day, sometimes more. I used to be so obsessed it would stress me out, so now I usually weight first thing in the morning, after I go tinkle and in my bday suit. Then I weigh before I go to bed to try and "guess" what I will weigh the next morning. I usually know when I weigh at night what I will weigh the next morning, I'm usually down like 2 lbs from what I weigh before going to bed.

Anyhow, I have learned not to let the scale guide my moods, its hard, but I've learned sometimes the scales do lie...read this article...... Out, Out, Damn Scale! Why We Sometimes Lose Inches But Not Weight

When I get discouraged about the scale not moving, I usually refer to that article again. It has helped me more times than I can even count.

By the way, you've encouraged me to get back into "working out like a mad woman". I am really struggling with working out these days, my mojo has left. I did make it to the gym Monday night, Tuesday was sick, Wednesday night (last night) had a great workout for 45 min on the elliptical. And then this morning, I got up at 5 am and worked out.

I'm really trying to get back into my morning routine. That way I have no excuses not to get it done.

I've injurred my shoulder so I can't do weights right now, so I'm sticking with my cardio and a few strength training exercises.

So, keep up your good work, and keep posting, you never know when you will inspire someone - like me...:juggle:

I'm 5'2" and wear a size 8. Having trouble finding jeans that fit at that size though, just had to purchase a size 11/12 now I have to buy a belt which I have never worn in all my life don't even know how to. The jeans drive me nuts also because they are low rise and I just feel like my junk is hanging out. I really like talking with you. You make me feel better about myself and the struggles I seem to be having. I now see that I'm not the only person with these problems and I'm not alone in any of this. It's also nice knowing that I'm not the only one who has turned into a scale whore. I was asked one time by someone to discribe what it's like to have lapband. I was like it's like having multiple eating disorders...you workout all the time, only eat a small amount, and sometimes have to throw it up. Would I do it all again? Well I guess I would since I don't need medication, and I did do it again to have my tubing and port replaced. That is the reason I can only do cardio right now I haven't been released for lifting or straining yet.

Thanks for encouraging me.

You guys inspire me. I've been in and out and not following my eating program very well. But have been exercising pretty regular. Just no movement on the scale.

I couldn't weigh in every day...it would make me crazy. Do you think it helps more or less? I remember in the first year I was at it several times a day but I could see some changes.

I'm going to try to get serious about eating on program and with the right proportions. I gotta get after it again!

I just wanted to touch on the scale issue. I do think when you are serious about losing weight, it's good to weigh daily. As long as you understand the natural fluctuations of Water in your body, seeing that number every day can help desensitize you to the scale. Having said that, I also think getting on more than once a day will just make you plain nuts. Why do that to yourself? Hell, I've seen the scale go up 4 pounds when I was really constipated.

The pregnancy is going well so far. I'm trying to keep up with my walking, so I can keep my blood pressure in check. So far, so good. I also haven't gained anything yet! Not too shabby :)

Hope everyone is doing well! We're going on vaca (no where too exciting) this week, so I'll check in when I get back.

I do understand what you are saying. I guess I was taking a page out of Weight Watchers...weigh once week. I get crazy with the once a day thing unless it was like it was back in the beginning of this process.

That being said, I'm trying to focus on eating properly...low carb...good Proteins, low fat. I've been at the Water consumption for most of the time anyway..no biggie there. I haven't walked for a few days but back at it tomorrow. Just sore from some of the work I did over the weekend. Playing carpenter.

Keep up the good work all. Lets do it!

I know we all have goals, dreams, inspirations. I would just like to hear what some of those are for other people. I'm not talking about reaching the ultimate goal of loosing the weight, but the other stuff. Like I always wanted my belly button pierced...did that in May of this year. Now I want to run the Chicago Marathon in the year 2012. Why that year...because I will be 40, hopefully at my goal weight, out of school, and should just have life in order by then.

So what is it that drives you?

So what is it that drives you?

I want it all! I want my goal weight, I want a six pack abs, I want a J-Lo round booty, I don't want the dimples in my thighs, I want muscle definition in my arms (Madonna arms). I want to wear a bikini again, and look good in it. Yes, I want all this in my 40's!

I want to be a fitness instructor someday, A personal trainer.

I know I'm probably one of those person who is totally unrealistic, but thats still what I want.

My flat stomach, I know will have to come from a Tummy Tuck, and the muscle will show up. I still know I have to exercise in order to get it, but my first step is a tummy tuck. I'm saving my money now and I'm hoping to get it next March.

I also need to keep reminding myself of my goals so I quit going off the deep end and eating bad stuff like an entire bag of Cookies in 3 days - all by myself. Yes, I did it.....grrrrrr.

I have been exercising, and eating right, but somehow, or something made me snap last week and I found myself eating cookies for dinner, and then Breakfast, then lunch, then dinner, and the next thing I knew, I had eaten the entire bag. Someone slap me please.

I'm back on track, my kids are out of town with friends so no cookies in the house again when they are gone! I will make them take the cookies with them. lol.

Well, I'm headed to the gym right now to some ab work and cardio.

Talk to everyone later.

I walked a half marathon in 2002, and I'd like to do that again, or maybe even run some of it. I also dream of doing natural bodybuilding or figure competition someday. I realize what a huge amount of work there is ahead of me for that, but it's like a carrot dangling out in front. Once I get through this pregnancy, it's go time.

Well, I got - hopefully my final fill yesterday. Fill #14 - I am hoping it helps me to get to goal. I'm sticking to liquids for three days, or at least soft foods. Having a Protein Shake this morning and cream of brocoli Soup for lunch.

The doc looked at my band and said it was in perfect position, he filled me up 2/10ths of a CC and had me drink the nasty barium stuff, well, nothing went thru, so he pulled just a few drops out, less then a 1/10th of a cc and a little of the barium went thru. So thats where we left it.

I can tell I have great restriction, and I had no acid reflux last night (which I was so happy about).

I had 1/2 can of soup last night and was full and doing a few hiccups, so I think this might be the true "sweet spot". I can only hope.

I haven't had a fill since last year, I didn't want to get too tight but I can tell it had gotten looser. I was also worried aobut my pouch being stretched, and he said everything looks great. So I was relieved.

Anyhow, I'm hoping by next Monday on my weigh in, I will have a lower number to report. :w00t:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
