Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

Hey! Two pounds lost is something to be proud of! I don't blame you for wanting to post it.

It looks like you will have to create a new ticker. Sorry, the process worked for me. Perhaps I did not explain it clearly enough. I am verbally challenged at times.:)

Hey everyone...I got to meet Cynde at our support group meeting tonight. She is just as sweet in person as she is on line. This is great. I appreciate all of you and am thankful that we are on this journey together.

I really think it depends on how much weight you have to loose, how many patients the doctor is filling, but most of all, we are individuals and go with "your" feelings about yourself and your lap-band journey. I was banded 10-15, my first fill is 12-1 which is ok. The longer I live with my band, the more I understand the feeling of knowing if I do my best and treat my band with care by not overeating, I will be fine. I don't know why I wrote that but I hope it helps you today.

Howdy,

Sorry I've been gone so long w/o posting, but other than being a little lazy, consentrating on "FOOD" and what I can eat or not eat it's just been awhile.

I'm doing very well. Have not had any problems, so far I seem to be able to eat almost anything with no problems. Of course I'm being very careful in chewing everything very good and no Water 30 min before & after eating. I'm suppost to be in the "mushy" stage right now but not following it as strick as it says. Still am very careful doing it.

As soon as I went to more solid foods, I stopped losing for about one week, but now have started losing again.

22 lbs down so far.

I made an omelete today with turkey berger, onions, two eggs, low fat cheese, yalonios, cyanne pepper, with a little bit of salsa. Maybe something else, I forgot. It was too bit for breckfast, so had 1/2 than and the other half for lunch.< /p>

went down very good with no problems and I did feel full, very satisfying.

I just made a protien drink I'll have before dinner time.

The hardest thing I have found so far is making my mind think SMALL, but I'm starting to get a handle on it.

I'm starting to get long winded now, so will sign off for now.

Glad to hear most everyone is doing better as time goes on.

Don

I havent posted for awhile either. I been reading and checking in that way but I have been lazy to. I am actually doing pretty well, I had surgery 10-21 and I have lost 27 lbs and it feel great! I have started a yoga type of exercise until I am cleared to swim. I do for my first fill on Dec 15 and I cant wait. I have learned alot in this time. I have learned I can not drink anything overly sweet. I am on food now and I am I already learned the chew, chew, and chew some more. I can not wait for my fill. I did really well on thanksgiving, and hope to do the same for Christmas. It will be right after my first fill so I should be okay.

I hope everyone is well and wish everyone the best of luck.

Hi to all. Haven't posted hardly at all since my surgery. I am glad to see that we made it through Thanksgiving! It wasn't as hard as I had thought it would be. My portions were SMALL and eating off a dessert plate helped tremendously! I had my first "hang up" the day before Thanksging on some deli meat. Didn't chew well enough. Are there others who are NOT wanting a fill just yet? I am wanting to wait until I think I need it............I am eating as I should and small amounts..........

Now, I want to get personal because I want to know........Has anyone experienced any changes to their bowel movements? I went from being constipated to experiencing a good bit of gas and b.m. at times (usually after I eat........) Doesn't last long - Anyway, I wasn't sure if this was due to adding solid foods/meats to my diet.........Anyone else?

I have to share this with someone and thought it might bring encouragement to you all as we go through the holidays!

I was worried about Thanksgiving but made it a point to get up that morning (actually I was still up as I work nights and didn't go to bed) and walked a little over two miles in the cold sunshine. I went home and prepared my part of the "feast" and then went to my mom's house. I ate everything I wanted...just small amounts and spent more time TALKING than EATING! The next day...I lost a pound! :cursing:

Fast forward two days and it was time for Thanksgiving day #2 at my in-laws. Again, I went out in the morning and hiked with my friend (cold day--sunny) probably about two miles but I don't know as we were in the woods. Finished the prep and then went to dinner. I ate what I wanted (including DRESSING and an iced sugar cookie) and weighed today...I lost TWO more pounds! :blushing:

I really think my gym time is catching up as building muscle increases metabolism. Just an idea to help us get through! Focus on exercise and enjoying the company more than the food!

Happy Holidays!

~~anne

P.S. My first fill is Monday!

I was banded on Oct 29th. Dr. Marsden was my surgeon. I have lost 25lbs. 12lbs before the surgery. I am very happy. I have no restriction yet! just trying to learn to eat smaller portions. And killing my hunger pains with Protein Drinks and Water. Not always easy!!! I get my first fill Dec 4th and I can't wait. This has to be the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I have been overweight since I was 2 yrs old. I have been a yo yo dieter all my life I have said good bye and hello to this 25lbs forever but not this time. I got them they are gone FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Cristina - what a wonderful start to your journey.

I have to say that Thanksgiving was not easy. I ate considerably less than Thanksgivings past, but considerably more than I probably should have. I haven't gotten on the scale yet to determine any damage. I at least want to wait until after I go to the gym tonight!

Are any October bandsters diabetic? If so, how have you been handling your meds? Any changes to your blood sugars? Mine have been all over the place lately.

I haven't checked in for a while either, so I thought that I would. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving! I did ok and was happy with my turkey and green beans! Next Sunday it will be 2 months since my surgery and I am down a total of 84 pounds (53 before surgery) I had my first fill on 11/20 and I am going for another one this Thursday. I can usually go about 4 hours in between meals before I start to get hungry but I figured it can't hurt to get another one especially since we are in the middle of the holiday season! I am very curious to see what real restriction feels like.

I hope that everyone else is doing well and enjoys the season with their loved ones.

wow, melboyd, you are doing awesome!

KarenK--I'm not diabetic but I am a nurse. Have you called your doctor yet? I would definitely think you need to maybe do some "as needed" meds instead of routine now.

Mollyjo--he didn't do a fill. He said I'm doing great and should save my fills for when I need them. I have to agree! He said I can call anytime and come in for one though.

I went to a support group meeting tonight and several "old" bandsters were saying they cannot eat oranges or it makes them sick...from the white pulp. They said if you eat them, eat them like a grapefruit and cut in half and use a spoon. Just thought I'd mention it.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
