You better believe I am freaking, one moment I am completely excited the next moment I am a mixture of scared and nervous. I really just want to get the surgery over and then start the hard part but good part. :biggrin2:

LOL I think my husband is going to move out until the day of surgery b/c of my emotional rollercoaster! Not really, but he's probably thought about it! :cool2:

I thought about asking my PCP for an anxiety pill b/c if I don't have a panic attack before this is over it'll be miracle! To top it off, I'm PMS'ing! Some how, choclate Protein shakes don't match the taste of mint chocolate chip icecream when the PMS starts!

Too Funny. I was so very cranky last night. I was just plain hungry and family ate frozen pizza, normally I would not even care but it smelled so good

I have a question, maybe some of you can help me. My surgery is July 11 and the closer it gets the more I'm freaking out about them trying to get a IV started. A little history: In Dec. 2005 I had a Bi-lateral masectomy. I had 5 surgeries in 2006 and had many high powered antibotics because of staff infections. Last year I was in the hospital 4 times between July 2nd and first of August a total of 21 days. My veins are not shot. I had a breast MRI 2 months ago and he had a heck of a time getting a IV in and they had to take blood out of my hand because they couldn't find a good vein. Two of the times I was in the hospital I went in thru the ER and they broke every vein in my hands and arm trying to get a IV started. I'm terrified that their going to have the same problem the day of my surgery. Of all the times I've been cut on and in the hospital since my breast cancer, them trying to get the IV started is what I remember being the worst. I talked to my Surgeon about the problems I've had with IV's and he looked at my neck and said they could get one in there. That also scares me!! Do you think I should try to talk to someone about this when I go for my pre op? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. The surgery does not scare me at all after all I've been thru but them digging in my arms and hands again scares me to death.

By all means, talk to them about your concerns. And be extra sure to drink drink drink for several days beforehand so you are really well hydrated. That makes it easier for them to hit your veins.

I know this because I am a 100+ volunteer platelet donor with not-so-good veins. They finally told me that drinking the day before isn't enough, I should drink extra two or three days in advance. They can also have you hold or apply a warm bag of saline to the area to help things along.

Good luck!!

Thanks again!

Excited, scared, afraid of what I don't know. Just had major household upheaval too. Stressed and a wee depressed but this has been a long time coming and I pray that I can be a success!

I sure want to do everything I can to give myself, and my surgeon, the best possible chance for no complications.

I haven't ordered the Unjury yet, but will do that soon. I'm cleaning out the cabinets of what I know I won't be eating.

Will be looking for pre-op countdown tips on how to deal! I'm alone, except for my pets.

I didn't check in for one day and came back to 4 pages on this thread!! Great job everyone.

Wstone when you are in prop holding area, explain to the pre op nurse about your vein issues; ask to have the CRNA or anesthesiologist start your IV. The pre op folks start IV all day every day; they will do their very best for you. Lots of fluids for several days before your surgery date is a good idea.

I am excited and nervous too. Not about the surgery; but about the life style change. I want to be successful and do everything I can to use my new tool to it's greatest advantage, but what if.......... (fill in the blank) I have said what if so many time in my mind; I have run out of what ifs!!!

We sure do have a lot of people for July; it is so nice to know you will be thinking of me and I will be thinking of all of you.

Good luck everyone. You first weeker; dont forget to let us know how it goes!!

Prayer for all of you every night. Lynn:closedeyes:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
