Hi -

I'm back after a very disgusted (almost) 6 month diet.

Into my 5th month and guess what! - the 6 mo. diet requirement was lifted in February.

So - I contacted my surgeon's office via e-mail and received THE CALL today -

April 13 -

I'm not superstitious - but I' still glad it isn't a FRIDAY.

Now -

I see my nutritionist tomorrow and will probably get the pre-op advice and guidelines.

Oregon.......I asked Dr. Davis' Pa if the show was going to come back on and she said it was in the works.

Well that is great news!!

I hope somebody from the Aussie thread can tell us if Katy is okay. I know she won't be able to post for awhile, but

if somebody was able to post that she is in the hospital recovering, I would feel a lot better.

Her surgeon warned her that this surgery to remove her band was dangerous and that has me really worried:crying:

Elayne: I am happy for you that you got a date, we'll certainly be praying for you.

I'm trying to find the Drs. name that did Katy's surgery, If I can find the hospital, I'm going to try and contact the hospital to see if she's ok.

Susan, that is a great idea. Do you have her full name? Do you think they would be able to tell you anything? They all have that confidentiality issue. Maybe over there they have never heard of Hippa.

It would be great if they don't know about Hippa. I found the surgeon who did her surgery and I sent an email asking them to please get word to either her or her family and gave them my email address to pass along so someone can let me know how Helene faired with the surgery. Soooo, lets see what happens. If I dont get anything within a few days, I'll contact the surgeons office again. We're on hold at this point.

I am also worried about Helene (Katy) I don't post often but am a faithful lurker. 8-)) Anyway, could you please explain what Hippa is? Do you mean the hippocratic oath? I guess not because that doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, prayers for Helene and hope we hear soon.

Wow! You already have a sleeve day. Good for you!

I am concerned about Katy. I have had 3 laparotomies(open surgeries).....it is quite a recovery. She may be in the hospital up to a week. We may not hear from her for a few days.

I am not exactly sure what hippa stands for. I work for an attorney, so all I know it is that they have to sign the form saying we have the right to get records, etc on their behalf because of confidentiality. It just means that nobody is allowed to give out any information to anyone unless you sign a form saying it's okay for them to give it out.

HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). I'm in the insurance business. I'm a consistent lurker too .

It's so great of you, Livin, to e-mail and try to track Katy down. We all hope she's ok

Yep, think we are all nervous about Katy, JoAnne. I'm going to stay positive and look forward to her letting us know she is recovering just fine. She's been through hell and think she was plenty scared going into this last surgery. (As we all were just as concerned for her).

How are you nerves, JoAnne? I am sure you are anxious for your trip. The time will be here b/4 you know it. Hope you have sufficient time to get your baby quilt done.

Zero visibility here today. Ice storm this morning and full blizzard by 11am. I feel like a caged animal.

Thanks, Apples - in about 27 days we will be arriving in Seoul. DD has been keeping a running count! Actually I think she is counting for the baby's due date, and subtracting 4 days for Mom and Dad's arrival... She is feeling very pregnant these days.

And I am getting a little nervous about this trip. We have not traveled internationally, except for a few trips to the Carribean and a cruise to Mexico a few years ago, many fishing vacations in Canada. Those are set up pretty much like a trip to Florida these days, and Canada was just a drive across the border. Flying is not my favorite activity, and that leg from San Francisco to Seoul is 12 1/2 hours - a long time in the air. I'm sure we will do fine, and I will be glad to be hugging DD and DGS (as well as DSIL!) at the end of it.

I think I told you I grew up in northern MN - 70 miles north of Duluth on the north shore of Lake Superior. I can identify with your weather yesterday, and digging out of it today (if the storm is even over!). I think you needed to spend another month or two in Florida! This was not the winter to stay home.

Hugs,

Yep, Joanne, I remember you telling you where you grew up. It's so beautiful up there. We always took our boys and went along with another family and camped along the shore for a couple of weeks each summer. My boys fav vacations. We are dug out from the storm. Bitterly cold today and windy but looks like it will be in the 40's by the weekend. Fine by me!

Livin.......thank you so much for looking into Katy's doc and taking care of business. I know she used to be on an Aussie thread but could not find the last time that she was. I just hope and pray she is healing and heading home soon and back on this thread.

Hope everybody had a great day.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
