I have played with this a little bit but i struggle with my time frame. I am a nurse full time and i work 6-2 everyday and then go to our business and work 2-630. So, we don't used get to eat dinner until 730-8ish which i hate but i don't have much choice. So, because i get up at 5 and start again struggle to hold out on eating until 11 or 12 let alone 2. I just need to push myself more I guess and quit making excuses...lol

I am just going to have to make the commitment to do IF and see what happens.

I tend to find IF easier when I'm busy. If you can push through until 2, then 2-8 would be the perfect eating window. Have you tried fluids when you get hungry, and seeing if you can get the hunger to pass? That really works for me, and the bonus is, I can easily surpass my 64 oz (which is generally hard for me). What I also like with IF is you don't need to be perfect. If three days you can push through your hunger, and two days you can't, it's still a total win.

Little over 8 months post op. Can’t seem to get out of 203 to 205 range. Tried IF, Tried dropping carbs to like 20 to 25 a day and managed to drop 1 freaking pound in 2 weeks. Protein is perfect getting about 100 oz Water a day. This weekend was mother’s day so I had a free weekend. And scale said 210 this morning! I am up 5 pounds since Friday. I am so frustrated right now. Wondering if anyone has tried a 10 day liquid diet this far out in the game? Like 4 Protein Shakes a day for the next 10 days? Would I finally see numbers 195 to 198? Or just setting myself up for a huge disappointment and hunger? I am afraid my body is just done. The scale has just gone up in down in 8 pound range for about 3 months now. I see my doctors and my nut every 3 months so I saw them in March and they were happy with everything I was doing. They also told me if I lose anymore it will not come easy. But I feel like I am still working hard but just have nothing to show for it. So I see them again in month and have made 0 progress since I was there last. I just want to get to 185 to 190 ish and then have skin surgery. Any thoughts on the liquid diet thing? Guess I just hope it would kick start something again.

Big foodie/party weekend!!!! (Although not origins or purpose... I know 😳)

To ensure that my reign of health food tyranny continues 😂😂😂😂 I insisted i do all of the food prep for the card party we are having hehehehehehe

What's everyone else doing to minimize the damage?

Oh great job on mitigating damage in advance!!!! Wooot!!! And great point about this being a party party weekend with mas food and mas beverages! *gasping at the thought*

So I'm fasting this week in preparation for the weekend! :) And each day we have a party: Fri-Mon. *sigh* So my game plan is to make the healthiest choices in each of those party situations, heavily rely on ice tea rather than adult bevs, and keep the snacking to a bare minimum. I will eat sparingly around each party of very lo low foods--mainly low cal veg and lean dense Protein like tuna, sardines, herring, grilled chick/turkey breast. So that the overall damage for each day is contained.

Try bulking up the Protein Shakes with ice (blend) so you can stretch them... You can stretch 1 shake into 3 that way.

Then just Protein and clean dressing free salads for a week and see what happens.

Also how are your bowel movements?

Good luck!

Almost 8 months post op. Lost a bit more than I had set my goal to (I’m at 127 lbs; 5’7). Stress has a lot to do with it.
Been meaning to ask all post-op pals, because my ma (had the sleeve done 4.5 years ago) and I struggle to eat during the day, but find eating the same foods so easy throughout the night. Are we the only ones going through this, or are there others who are going through the same thing? If so, how do you deal with it?

Question: Do you just ignore your dietician if you don’t agree? The normal RD is on maternity leave so I saw the substitute one at my 9 month follow up. She wants me to increase my carbs to a minimum of 50 a day, however would like to see me average 70-100. 😬

Currently I eat 20-50, that seems like a big jump and makes me pretty nervous. The previous RD didn’t really give me any numbers, she just said keep it low.

I had VSG 8/18, I’m 4 pounds from my first goal weight, (140), I workout 5 days a week and I eat 650-800 calories a day. I’m 58 years old and a slow loser so my hesitation is real. I don’t mind ignoring it, but I don’t want to ignore it just because of my fear of carbs.

Any advice?

I would say speak with the dietician again. You are still in honeymoon period. Talk to your doctor about what you are feeling. This is the best time for you to lose weight. Take advantage of it. It gets harder with time for most of us.

Honestly? I'd keep working the plan you have. Don't add or subtract anything until you are where you want to be. Time for experimentation and regain comes later. ((hugs)) Congrats. You're doing great!!!!!

Pretty thought provoking stuff. Thanks for sharing. He does ask the difficult questions doesn't he? And has pretty startling insights. No wonder why he isn't very popular with his peers...

Standard of Care is very slow to change...

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
