High Na(Sodium) diets put you at risk for kidney stones. This kind of Pica is also common if your are anemic. How are your Fe(Iron) levels?
I usually get my K and Na from propel or Gatorade zero - no sugar but electrolytes. Mu Fe is normal, I had medical issues before surgery, so I have elevated RBC, C - reactive Protein, and platelet count, but low Na and low K. I by no means have a high sodium diet, my average intake is less than 1,000 and average around 700 with the propel or Gatorade.

Good to know, maybe I was just being an alarmist. Or maybe I'm an old worry-wart!

II am 2.5 months post OP and I have lost 44 lbs! I am half-way to my goal and I can't believe how much this is changing my life. I actually feel cute and think about shopping... I feel like my food addiction might just be replaced by a retail one. lol. I have never felt so hopeful about a new year! Cheers "losers"! Loosing has never felt so good!

Well, I got through my office holiday party. Actually had a fairly good lunch. Shrimp and cheese cubes. I did have one tiny forkful of apple pie when I was cleaning the pie plate and it was enough (anyone know how to track something like that in Sparkpeople?). Unfortunately, this morning I fell about 1/3 of the way down my stair case and hurt the crap out of my food. Nurse at work said if it doesn't feel better tomorrow, I need to go to urgent care to see if I have a stress fracture. Ugh - no exercise for me for awhile :( . But really, REALLY glad I didn't hurt myself worse in the fall.

Wow a lot of you guys are dropping sizes left and right. I’m down 35 lbs and still wearing 22w pants. I feel great though!

I started at 289. My pre-op weight was 255 and my current weight is 220 today :)
That was a personal goal to hit before two month post-op so, I’m happy about that! but my pants sizes haven’t shrunk as fast..? My tops on the other hand.. I’ve gone from 2XL to a L and some Medium shirts depending on the brand

I know this sounds weird but have you tried on a smaller pair? I was wearing my bigger size clothes and in my head I kept saying they fit... until I put on the next size down and saw/felt the difference. My brain was trying to tell me I was still big, but my body and the mirror showed me I was in fact losing. Good job with your weight loss and shirt size loss! You are rocking it and I'm sure it'll fall off eventually! Keep going, I'm glad you feel great!

OMG. Guys I finally made an old family favorite that I could eat!!!! It was our goulash! No onions seems to be the trick! The recipe made 10 cups, and I couldn't eat 1/4 of a cup! Best part is, 1/4 cup is only 57 calories! I added Protein Powder to my portion, but didn't add it into the main calories of the meal. I'm so close to getting into the 180's. I don't think I'll get there by the end of the year but who knows! 20181220_204014.thumb.jpeg.85b847e651eba4a0eff655b301a74907.jpeg[url=https://s.bariatricpal.com#/uploads/monthly_2018_12/2111102892_15453679348352.jpeg

I have a size 20 that I haven’t fit into in like four years and they fit through the hips but don’t quite zip up all the way.

And thanks ☺️ I think it will too.. just a matter of time!

I have a question for everyone.

Has anyone done a dexafit scan to get a baseline of where they are in overall Body fat and accurate BMI? It gives you bone destiny and everything. I’m asking because I was wondering if it’ll be worth knowing or if it’s just better to get a BMI smart scale and going off that?

Do you carry your weight in your mid section? I did the first time around before the Tummy Tuck. My skin in my stomach never tightened up like the rest of my body. I had to size around it. That resulted in me not losing pant sizes very fast.

I'm in your shoes too. I've lost 32 since surgery/46 since pre-op diet/54 total. I just this week dropped into one size down (so I can now wear 22w). It was really frustrating. But I took measurements and saw that weight was coming off - just mostly in my hips, legs and arms. So, I figure that at some point my waist has to catch up.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
