Confessional - Lets post our cheats/confessions/etc so others can see that we are all human

Recommended Posts

@BurBur that's *EXACTLY* the point of this whole thread. People are so worried about what might happen if they cheat on their diets/plans/nutritional limitations. I wanted a place to showcase our trespasses and their outcomes. Most everyone here is aware that a small piece of this or some of that isn't bad overall (it is still a "cheat" however), but there are so many people that believe it'll be the end of the world.

Normal is a sociological construct. Our new "normal" is our new diets and their restrictions. I view occasional cheats as "ok", as it allows us to venture outside of our new normal for a moment, it's when those cheats become habits that we've entered into that potential downward spiral.

Overall, I just want folks to know that, cheats happen, sometimes it results in nothing bad, and sometimes it results in some uncomfortable moments, but overall, it's not going to totally destroy everything like some believe it will.

I'm reading people's confessions about eating two chicken nuggets, some fried rice from Panda Express, or maybe a little candy, and I'm thinking to myself that I'm the cheater of cheaters because all of this sounds so mild compared to my cheats. This is embarrassing, but here it goes: I polished off an entire Big Mac yesterday. Yep. Don't ask me how my stomach fit it all in because usually I can't eat that much, but I was hungry. Didn't drink with it or have anything else with it, but polished that sucker off all by myself. That's a first since my surgery a year ago. A part of me feels I should be terrified I was able to do that. I'm not doing it again because that's what got me where I was before my surgery. Yes, I feel ashamed. :(

I ate an entire small bag of nutter-butters today. I donated blood, and OF COURSE, I needed to make sure I didn't get woozy, don'tch know? At lease I had Water instead of Gatorade :P And yes, I wrote them down in my log!

This was actually the first time I have ever gotten dizzy donating blood. Glad I did it at work and didn't have to drive home from a blood center. I was still fine to drive an elevator!

I ate a small bowl,of 1 half 🍑 (water packed) with 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese, as sins go a minor pale-gray one. Excuse? I'm mourning Aretha Franklin? I don't think she's really in any position to rebuke me for it anyway.

Now that's my kind of cheat!

Most of my "cheats" are meal choices. But one of my few snack cheats was a Grandma's Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies. I used to LOVE those in my 20's. So, I was in a convenience store. Not usually a problem, I'm in them regularly. But the person in front of me in line grabbed a pack and I. just. could. not. resist.

There they are, plunked down right next to the check-outs at Wally World, they are tasty big morsels of bad old carbs, but Grandma makes a lovely quick slide -down -the -gullet treat, doesn't she?🍪

Well, ya know, the bag did have 3g of protein! LOL!

Actually, this thread terrifies me. It makes me feel like it's ok to cheat even though I know it's not. I should probably quit following it.

Nooooooo I was totally joking, it helps me to stay grounded, I think it helps others too so food doesn't feel like dirty secrets you eat in your car when no one is watching,

yeah I had WLS and yeah I'm going to eat pastry (and yeah I'll be in the bathroom lol)

And yeah my Water is Icelandic...

For the record, I did feel bad about those Cookies

I guess to me the difference is, making a not as healthy a choice at a meal vs. a totally unnecessary splurge snack.

I'm at a restaurant, I need to order a meal. I could order something uber healthy, but I don't really want. Or I could order a less healthy choice but I will enjoy it more. That I don't feel bad about, because again, 1 oz, seriously!

I'm not talking about anyone else here, but when it comes to cheating, I'm a "give her an inch and she'll take the whole yardstick" kind of girl. And I'm not limited by the one oz. thing since almost everything I eat is a slider. I get truly scared when I'm off plan, even for a bit.

But even though we may not be bariatric diet poster children, look at how well we are doing!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
