Hey, I'm a noob, and I love bacon! At least, I used to. It has been so long since I had a piece I am not sure I even remember what it tastes like anymore. I won't tell you what to do, but I will say you shouldn't let stupid run (or ruin) your life.

Bacon has NOT left the building in my life... Nor will it EVER. As in nevah-evah-evah

Haha, it is just on hiatus here. I am being as meek as a little lamb in following doctor's orders. And so far, everything has gone well for me.

I used bacon to increase my calories. I've been having a hard time getting enough so a strong showing of bacon for Breakfast bumped those calories and gave me more energy.

I'm not trying to defend anyone in this thread but I do want to talk about my own experience with medicaid patients. I work in the health care field. I will say that based on my experience, that many, not all medicaid patients have a very entitled attitude. They are generally the ones that complain and get pissed off when they don't get their way. It can easily sour someone's perception of all medicaid patients when you work with this issue day after day. Mentally it can be quite taxing. I have to admit that when I deal with one of the entitled patients I think to myself "well, I guess my taxes are paying for this one". Somehow that makes it easier in my screwed up brain.

I guess at this point in time, from the OP's original post, the message to be taken is that many of us like bacon.

OK..since this has morphed into a bacon thread, check out the restaurant that I went to a few weeks ago. Man...was like I had died and gone to bacon heaven.

Oh...and I'm no newbie testing out my band. I'm a vet who knows what she can and cannot eat...and how much. This type of eating is a rare treat...not an everyday thing.

Enjoy!

I guess that is what the saying "I died and went to hog heaven" means. :)

Thankfully I don't live near that restaurant...but the next time I am in NYC........hmmmmmm.

So it's very obvious the new newbies want nothing to do with hearing what successful WLS patients have to say. The recent debate over the the eating bacon 1 week postop makes it perfectly clear that what they want is for someone to tell them it's OK to be stupid. They are not interested in listening to their surgeons or nuts or veterans. Self sabotage is the new fad and compliance is apparently out of style. I made the mistake of responding to the post when, as a veteran, I should have known better. Turns out I'm just a big meanie (no surprise there!) At this point it's 95% newbies posting on that thread who don't have a clue what the long term repercussions of eating off plan so soon will lead to. The blind leading the blind.

Oh well. It will be interesting to see the stats of successful EWL go down over the next few years as more and more unprepared, uncommitted people continue to have WLS. In the meantime, I'm outa here. The newbies won. As hard as it is to tear my eyes away from the car wreck, I just can't take anymore people that do stupid **** and then whine about getting their feelings hurt. Someone PM me when the grown ups start joining again.

Wow...i'm really not happy you're going. You are very encouraging to me. I appreciate your incite and intend to listen. I'm totally going to follow the rules. Its the people who have been here the longest that I even give ear too. I'm sorry you are leaving.

I'm so new I haven't even had surgery yet. My date is December 1st. I spend my time searching for veteran threads because I need the expertise of those who have been successful and have maintained their WL. I don't know you very well Kindle but from what I can gather you and the other vets in this forum have what I need to learn, firsthand knowledge. I hope you will rethink your exit and don't let stupid people push you out. Other newbies need your and other strong vets experience.

Interestingly enough I make the same experience with the private patients (German healthcare system). Of course most of the patients aren't really this way.

Wow that's a lot of pork bellys...at least it has Protein. (And sodium and fat). I laugh...

What was the most unusual dish you tried GW? And do comment on the patrons.

We can live vicariously....

I think I'm glad they don't have a bacon restaurant near me!

I take issue with you're Medicaid statement.. I'm retired on Medicare and because my income is so low I qualify for AZ healthcare the equivalent of medicaid, and I'm grateful to have the extra insurance. So not all medicaid subscribers are not whiners.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
