  1. Ever or just in the beginning phases, post surgery? You probably don't want to drink your calories instead of eating them (OJ vs an orange). Some fruit is more fattening than others; but in moderation it should be part of a normal diet.
  2. It was a very informative article. Thank you for posting this.
  3. I am sooooooooo glad you didn't choose that picture as your avatar.
  4. Damn, I should have been an Army doctor. PS. Thank you for serving our great Nation.
  5. Not in the bear community. I'm worried about being too thin. Oh wow that's excellent! As a woman I am always fearful of being stereotyped "butch lesbian" crap. In reality I'm uber girly so that makes people say "you don't LOOK gay" So apparently I can't win! Lol Excuse me, that is not being PC. The correct term should be "vagetarian", not 'lesbian".
  6. Some PCPs may lack people skills, but most are trying to impress upon their obese patients the importance of losing weight (diseases, shortened life expectancy, mental health, etc.) based upon their first hand knowledge and experience. A PCP should not say "You fat (bleep), why don't you put the fork down some time and go for a walk!" -That would be cruel, unprofessional and unsupportive. They could say "According to the weight/height charts, you should try to grow 4 feet taller". My PCP encouraged me to lose weight in a positive way by suggesting dieting, offering advice on losing weight and over time, eventually entertaining the thought of bariatric surgery. She is a consummate doctor, has great people skills, is very caring and THANKFULLY, has a small index finger (guys know what I mean).
  7. I always like the statistics that get thrown around with nothing stating about the number of samples, if they were random, unbiased, taking into effect other factors, etc.. 80% of the people agree with this, 15% disagree and 10% are not sure.
  8. I'll take unrealistic ways to permanently keep off weight for $1000, Alex. -Oh wait, that is a different Alex. As much as I applaud the contestants for wanting to lose their excess body weight, the show is not realistic for the other 99.99999% (a made up number, but probably not too far off) of the population who need to lose weight and want to. Very few of us can quit our jobs and pay that kind of money to have a dedicated personal trainer on a resort for that length of time. We need to make lifestyle changes, I am sure many people (myself included) can attest to losing weight with a diet plan such as Weight Watchers, etc., just to gain it all back. We didn't make the lifetime commitment to keeping the weight off by exercising and eating differently. I treat my VSG (which I am thankful to be able to afford, even though the insurance copay was appreciable) as a tool. I am aware there are physical changes (ghrelin and other hormonal along with malabsorption and/or restriction) among other changes associated with these procedures. I need to take care of this tool, use it as it was intended, not abuse it or "let it rust" by not using it, just like any tool I have in my toolbox in my basement. That means that I need to eat in moderation, make healthy choices most of the time, exercise and consume enough Water and Protein on a daily basis, to name a few things. I would like to see the long term success of these contestants. They are ill-prepared for making this successful in the long run, but could possibly do so, if they follow the basic concepts. Instead of humans quickly fattening up an animal for slaughter for their own prosperity, these are animals who market this show (by exploiting morbidly obese and desperate contestants under the guise of trying to help people) by thinning down quickly humans for their own prosperity. That is why I don't watch the show. I am sure they are glad people are losing weight and becoming healthier, but how much effort do they put into the contestants to follow up with them and prepare them mentally and physically for their lives after the show when their usefulness is no longer needed?
  9. Hmmm, Can I give into temptation that the post Easter tool sale at Sears is calling me?
  10. I have a great idea, instead of watching this show for (1 hour?, I don't know, I don't watch it), we should exercise in our own homes, the gym or walk that additional (hour?) each week.
