When will I stop regretting this surgery?

Recommended Posts

Stage 1 & 2 are the toughest to get through. I remember telling my NUT that I missed chewing so much that it was making me crazy. Getting to real foods, even in small amounts, is a BIG relief. Hang in there and know that it will work out for the better (and lighter) very soon.

It's so helpful to hear people who have had RNY or the sleeve assure us that it does get better. I had RNY on Monday and came home with a huge case of buyer's remorse. I had no idea what y'all meant by "head hunger" but I sure do now. My coping mechanism is gone. I feel scared and what used to comfort me was a full belly, not a tiny pouch that feels like it's bursting at the seams every time I drink 2oz of Protein each hour. I just keep thinking of my kids... the years of extra life and health I probably just earned... the confidence I'll feel and relationships I'll make as a result... The good stuff. Trying to drown out the fear, frustration, pain and food-as-a-crutch with the good stuff. [emoji4]

I had that head hunger SOOO bad... It made me angry. It does get easier. You have to find away to push through it. Because I'll tell you, it so bad with me I said "screw it, I can't do it" and I tried eating something (an egg of all things)... I chewed and chewed and chewed... And it was the worst pain almost immediately!!! Horrible. I learned my lesson!!! After trying to cheat, I completely ended my head hunger. I'm almost a month out and I'm still scared to ear anything... The pain was 10x's worse than surgery. It'll get better. Be head strong. Walk away from other when you see them eating. Try not to smell cooking food (that triggered my head hunger). It's tough, but I promise it goes away!! Stay strong. Lol

I'm a sleeved last post op 3 weeks and also a grad student in counseling. It would help u to maybe call your doctor and ask about a support group that is near u? You can find face to face meetings great where ppl can identify with u.

I would also call him and ask if u can go in for a check up to ease ur mind and maybe make sure nothing is wrong. It does sound like more pain than normal.

It is a huge adjustment. I am so tired and I feel overwhelmed with making sure I eat right n waiting to drink and if I am drinking enough.

Everyday write down or video blog for ur personal record how ur feeling. Try to think of a positive thing to balance the list out.

Record ur feelings. Ur thoughts.

And then go back after a few days and see if the negative thoughts r less. If not read or listen to what u said and then u will have a clear picture why u r upset.

Maybe u will see it's the pain u r upset over and not the surgery? If the doctor can help u with the pain then keep recording ur feelings and adding negative and positive thoughts. Keep going back until u see a shift.

If u do not see a shift after u saw ur doctor and u still feel bad then u should take ur recordings or notes to a counselor and discuses them. Work through them. No need to change them because they r your feelings. But u should understand why you have them.

Clear thinking and understanding will help u focus on goals for ur new future. It will help ur anxiety and give u support.

If u need me pls contact me.

I think I was trying to let the one struggling ... im kinda new here lol sorry

you might need to talk to doc. you are spose to be able to eat 4 ounces you could have a stricture thats preventing you getting the Protein you need please please talk to doc.... at 2 months you should be almost ready to eat regular food.... steak meats etc....

I guess I've got a below average capacity. At 8 weeks a could barely finish 2 tablespoons and then I'd be stuffed for 1/2 day. Even a piece of string cheese was two meals. Now I'm 28 months out and have been maintaining below goal for over a year and a half. If it's mostly liquid (like soup) I MIGHT be able to finish a whole cup of something. But anything with any density, I'm limited to about 1/2 cup. I get in what I need by eating 6-8 times/day. This has been my max capacity and hasn't really changed since about 14 months out. THANK GOODNESS!

I just had the surgery a couple of days ago and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm up and moving around. The constant drinking is tedious and this JP drain sucks, but the pre-op diet really helped prepare me. I did two weeks liquid and lost 28 pounds prior to surgery.

I don't know what the future holds, but I'm looking forward to the journey. Hang in there and possibly join a support group.

After reading the last two posts I decided to share my experience. I had my sleeve done on Wednesday April 20th. I was in the hospital one night and released the next day. Yes, those two days were bad (but thanks to drugs I don't really remember them!) and there were a few ouchie days but by Monday, I was feeling fine. In fact.... I feel better than I have in years!!! I have this incredible surge of energy and no hunger. I asked my doctor yesterday at our follow up and he said it may be hormonal. Whatever it is, I hope it lasts! I almost feel like it's a dream. Every morning I wake up I feel so fortunate to have had this done because it's giving me so much control of my life. I have been running errands, working in the garden, attending swim meets for my daughter and taking care of my bees (yep I keep bees :) ) However I am realistic. I KNOW I may hit bumps and will have stalls- I've learned this from the wonderful veterans how share here. That being said I know there is this forum I can turn to for help and guidance in those dark days and that is a great feeling. My kids and hubby are so supportive and love seeing me this happy. I'm not kidding... I kinda feel like I got a do over. My heart hurts for those who are having such a hard time... Honest to god I wish so much that things get better. I just wanted to share my experience for those that are considering surgery... Everyone has a different experience. I wish everyone the very best. - Jen.

I am frustrated with eating slow but by no means am I regretting the surgery....after having a c-section and a hysterectomy the recovery is very much easier than those....I am 10 days post op....do I miss certain foods for sure! But I would seek counselling if you are extremely depressed....and I am also in need of a hobby besides eating! I wish you the best on this journey.....it will get better for you I hope.

That's good to know. Sleeve vs C section. Thank you! On hobbies... Irish crochet?

Two weeks out and my eyes are on the prize! I'm so over liquids and strained Soups, but my eyes are on the prize. Down 22 lbs so far and that is inspiring to myself. Take it one day at a time. Don't concentrate on what you think you're missing out on, but let what you need to do, to reach your goals, be the focus. Best wishes to each of us!

I don't regret my sleeve. It IS the best gift I have given myself... at first it was difficult. and it was no easy thing trying to get through about the first two weeks... after that eating soft foods like Beans and yogurt... and I did great..... But making major changes in life are always hard. But where I am now is not quite where I want to be weight wise... and I am in a stall which sucks... However I am half the size I was... People no longer look at me funny.. I am back to eating normal foods for awhile now. Its not easy at the beginning.... May I suggest for those struggling with liquids you try sugar free gatoraide... at first I had a lot of trouble tolerating Water and still do sometimes... It IS WORTH IT! I swear to you... for those with nausea... have you let the doc know? they do have medications to help reduce the amount of nausea you have to go through. I was lucky had had little to know nausea... So take the colace or stool softener.... as soon as doc says so... it makes all the difference

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
