Banders #7

Recommended Posts

Lisa...I sent you a text last week but you must not have seen it. I was just checking up to see how you were doing. I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Not just losing dad, but work and your health. I knew about the job...my new guy worked for Cablevision for 18 years and he told me it was changing hands...and not going to be Cablevision much longer. I thought of you...and if you would be impacted. He lives in Babylon by the way and I really want you and Ken to meet him. He may really be a keeper. I think you saw the picture of us on FB in front of the Coke Corner at CitiField, yes? I hope your tummy issues clear up soon. I can't imagine throwing up all the time and I really hope your band isn't impacted. Is there anything I can do for you hon? If yes, please just say the word and I'll do what I can.

Love ya..Liz.

Thanks Liz you are the sweetest! We should try to meet for a game on Saturday or Sunday!! I'd even meet for a night game though those are harder on everyone :)

I'm doing OK getting through it one day at a time. The tummy has calmed down finally after the upper GI biopsy. I don't know what the results are yet, so the band will remain empty until they can figure out why I keep getting sick. I'm sure that my nerves have something to do with it. The band itself is in good shape from inside and outside thank goodness for that.

You know you can be "strong" minded and it doesn't matter. You can look like on the surface that you got your shit together and you might even have it together but what I have realized is that stress is going to find a way...it takes a toll on my body and it sort of has a mind of it's own. If I won't stop going and doing it finds a way to put the breaks on or breaks me so I can't just keep that mind over matter attitude.

So for now, I'm working on getting my Autonomic and sympathetic nervous system under control as best I can...by trying not to "control" everything. Just getting through it all.

I am praying that you resolve your heath issues and are able to get back on track to good health. Keep the good memories alive and be happy he is in a good place. I'll definitely talk to Corey and we'll see about meeting up. He's going to the game on Tuesday and going to see A-Rod's last game on Friday. He's no Yankee fan, but he says it's still history.

Hi there, just catching up and sending lots of love and sympathies all-around. Hard times for so many here. Life is very poignant -- a reminder to grasp the joy and delight when we can.

Wow a lot going on with everyone sorry to hear the sad news , but everyone try to stay positive & I forgot how to post pics so now I have to learn & remember how , but I am trying to catch up,like I said I will pop in every once in awhile .

I still was dancing & doing Karoke , and having fun.

However I haven't been on because I was really busy and started couponning because I was on Disability since March so had to cut down on a lot of stuff & spending a lot of time with family doing stuff for them.

I was at work one night & my leg started hurting then it felt like it was on fire inside could barely walk coworker said go home stubborn me finished my shift went to get up to use the restroom ya I know TMI, but I fell & had to crawl & pulled myself up then got off the pot & stepped & fell again so I crawled back to my room & called into work then the Doctor , luckily got in that day.

So like I said I was on Disability form March till the 1st of this month oh I forgot to mention that the Doctor did the cortisone shot in my knee in the bone also I have a little Fluid in my knee but their not concerned with it.

So I thought no problem I can dance, walk so I can go back to work. WELL after standing for 8 hrs even with my hour lunch break I was in excruciating pain & crying when I left work because it hurt so bad so back to the Doctor I went after a week working and back on Disability.

Now I have to see a neurologist because their thinking it has something to do with my system my nerves.

When I first went to my PCP for the pain to find out what was happening they told me I have athoritus all in my Left side & in my tendons, otherwise things are good except being off my feet & not moving like I was unfortunately I gained but I am having trouble getting it back off & I have tried what We usually say or suggest, so I'm not sure but I think my thyroid is acting up again so back on synthesis for a bit but I doubt I will have to stop ever taking it completely .

So now you all know what had happened & what I'd happening with me so far, I will check in every once in awhile as right now a lot going on & I don't have the time I did because it's usually something with my Boy's or doing things for my Mother since I'm home now with them , they don't seem to miss me like they did when I'm working Lol because I know they miss me then because they will spend time with me & ask me to cook and tell me they miss my cooking lol.

Like I said though now I have caught you all up.

I recently had seltzer and lime j uice in a bar since I gave up alcohol. I didn't think much of the carbonation issue but then I noticed the same shoulder pain I had post-op. I sure didn't expect that 2-1/2 years after banding. Thankfully it didn't last long. No more bubbles for me.

I've had the occasional bubbles but have kept it to a minimum. So far, no issues but like I said...it's a rarity. No more seltzer for you! :)

By the way...my weight is definitely creeping up. I resolve every morning to keep to my food plan but I tend to derail too often. It's not a horrible gain, but since the cruise in June, I've gained about four more pounds...and since I want to be at or around 125, I need to lose about eight pounds to get there. I'm finding it difficult...but I'm trying.

Hope all is well with everyone. I miss some of the folks who are gone from this thread... :( but I'm glad for those who are still here.

I am fighting the gain train also. Need to lose 7 lbs to be where I like my body more and feel healthiest.

Apple season here. The apple crisp was deadly. No more! I'll make something I don't care for.... Lemon something!!

so good to see some of you are back. I haven't been too active lately either. Had things going on that kept me from being very motivated getting ready to go on vacation soon, going to a dude ranch in Canada, stopping in Montana, touring Glacier National Park and then to the ranch for a week or riding and rafting and eating good food. I have added a few lbs also just purely didn't care. had so much depression and sadness to deal with, but I know I have to take care of myself too.

Hope you all get back on track and will hope we all have good things happen the rest of the year.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
