I had mine done on the 29th. First time I was ever put under. It was an experience. Apparently I just asking to put my underwear back on after surgery and the would not let the male nurse do it cause he might see my "junk". Do not recall any of this. Anyways. They started me on phase where I can eat Protein and strained Soup. Not too bad. But got to get used to the kids eating good food. Eating Popsicles is good for me for now. Lost 23 pounds since my last trip to the dietician. Good luck

Just had surgery on the 30th... everytime I seem to lay down I get headaches... I am also a side sleeper and since my surgery I have slept on my back in bed propped up a little bit but it has my lower back killing me. I wished I had a recliner like I did for my csections. Also is it normal to have all this rumbling in the stomach while drinking, taking medicine, and just anytime. My stomach has been doing that constantly. I have also been so gassy and letting the farts go and occasional burps but it stills continues. Any help would be appreciated

Same here. Can't wait for thicker liquids! One more day! Yay! Lol

I had a funny moment today I have to share with y'all. It's definitely TMI but still all of you are probably the only people that can understand this right now. I did a happy dance after I used the restroom today. My urine was orange for the last few days due to dehydration and I was so excited when it was nearly clear that I had to do a little "post-surgery hold my belly while I shake my butt" dance cuz I knew that meant I had gotten in all my fluids today! Yay! Haha

Don't think I pulled off all the Protein like you did, but I'm aiming for that goal tomorrow too! :)

I'm guessing the rumbling stomach is totally normal. Mine rarely stops and when it's not rumbling I'm getting awful reflux pains in my chest. Every time I take a sip of anything I have to burp after. Sometimes I even have to stand or walk to get the burp out. Still not horrific and easy to deal with. Don't forget to take your antacid daily if you were prescribed one. If you weren't then I believe gas-x strips are safe for Sleevers to use as needed.

I'm a side and stomach sleeper so I truly feel your pain. If it makes you feel better- I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago and it only took about 5 days before I could sleep on either side without feeling extreme pain. I can sleep on my right side now with some pain when I ease into the position and as long as I stay still it's not too bad. The left side hurts like hell tho! Wouldn't recommend trying that side for a while.

Good luck everyone! I have my surgery on Monday and today was my first day home.

Did everything go ok with your surgery? How are you doing now?

Hey! Eveything went good. Thank god! The first day or two were tough...I was extremely nauseous and no matter what they gave me it made me vomit. So they stopped all narcotics and I felt much better. Gas pains are tough...I never knew you could feel gas pains in your neck and shoulders but you can. Walking helped alot...just to get everything going. I got home yesterday, I am tired but I am so happy to be back with my kids and doing my mom stuff (as much as I can). if anyone had any questions feel free to ask me. ????

So glad to hear you are doing better and home with your children. Sounds like you had a rough couple of days. Thank God they realized your pain meds were adding to the nausea. I can only imagine how painful the vomiting was right after surgery and am so grateful I didn't experience it but am so sorry you did. Those gas pains really are no joke either. I'm just like u, Never thought you could feel gas pains in your shoulders or neck. And I am so glad I've finally expelled all the excess. It's nice not to feel like I'm carrying around an extra 20 lbs only because of bloat caused by air.

I hope things continue to improve for you and wish you a very speedy recovery.

Am I the only one? No problems drinking?so many posts talk about how hard it is to get Fluid in post op but I'm having an easy time if just sip

I had surgery on June 29th. I had horrible nausea and dry heaving immediately when I woke up in the recovery room and they kept pumping me with meds but nothing seemed to work. Next thing I remember I was in my room and still had nausea. I did get up and walk a few times that night and that made me feel a lot better. I came home on Tuesday and have had a real tough time getting in enough liquids. I constantly feel dizzy and even a slight blurry in vision and have to sit and rest after being up for awhile. This was my 7th surgery in 10 years (csections, gall bladder, lap band) and I never felt this bad this long after surgeries. Feeling disgusted. Just want to get in what I need to and have more energy to be active.

Enjoy it! This means you are lucky and doing fantastic! I have been having to force myself to sip from a baby spoon every minute or so because more than that causes acid and gas to bubble up ... and from what I've read too it's not uncommon to have issues. In this situation you are above average and I'm jealous!! Lol. Glad you are doing so well! I hope my issues improve soon and I can drink more easily like you! :)

You need to stay in bed! There's no hurry. Try to hydrate the best you can. Sometimes it's the narcotics that cause the dry heaves. And that's got to hurt! Hang in there!

I also have pain in my head that goes from the neck up but I'm thinking that might be from the way my head was positioned during surgery. I feel like w complete mess. Haha. But I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

So sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. Make sure to add Protein to your Clear Liquids. I put a half to quarter scoop of unflavored in about 4oz of broth and sip until I've finished and then switch to crystal light with protein and then back to broth. (Rotating flavors keeps it from being too boring) the protein keeps me from feeling too weak. Are you taking Vitamins? Did your doctor recommend B12? That helps too. If the dizziness and blurred vision continue after vitamins and protein you may want to check with your doctor. It could also be a blood pressure issue. I do get weak if I'm up for too long too. I also get dizzy if I get up or sit down too quickly. Remember to take it easy. This really was a major surgery. You've had a huge chunk of one of your main organs removed. Much more radical than a gall bladder removal and less complicated than a planned c-section. (Though I can honestly say my emergency c-section was way worse than this since it was a vertical incision and took 10 weeks to heal but my gall bladder surgery was easy)

Surgery is a funny thing. I'm 3 days post op and had never been in a hospital. Thought I was gonna die.. apparently they had to use a lot of gas to inflate my chest cavaty and that was miserable getting rid of. I felt feverish and my blood pressure skyrocketed after sygery.. I got home yesterday and everything has calmed down. I'm getting the Protein Shake and Water every 15min and am doing laundry and canning tomatoes today.. just taking it slow.. it does get better.. I actually thought I had muscular legs until yesterday.. since I'm loosing fluids and weight I have bird legs..lol I'm down 31 pounds since the start of my liquid pre-op diet two and half weeks ago.

We're home free!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
