SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

Recommended Posts

I was just about to ask if anyone is taking anything for constipation/regularity? I took a small dose of milk of magnesia and have sipped a little Smooth Move tea. Last night I resorted to an enema because I needed the relief (tmi). Just wondering if at this early stage there are things we take to maintain regularity?

I have been regular but always have been also I am now 8 days post op! I'm meeting all my Protein intake and Dr did tell me don't skimp on your protein it will help you in all aspects. Sorry for tmi here but day 3 PO I had this weird #2 it's was like when baby is born that first poop they do black and tar sticky like, since that day I got regular bowel. Nurse did say and I had read other exp. a black bowel like #2 as being normal and good to come out.

My sleeve was 3 Sep 14 and I was in the hospital for three days. NOTHING wanted to stay down and being allergic to whey was detrimental. I tried to sip that Whey Protein the first day and OMG!! WTH!! Who left the front door open!!! I am seriously trying to find a good non-whey Protein Drink and powder!!!

I was sleeved on 9/12. I reported for surgery at 6am to my surgeons outpatient surgery center. Was given a 3 day nausea patch, and 2 painkillers even before 8am surgery. Was in recovery by 9am. I felt bloated and uncomfortable but no real pain. My doc fills his pts bellies with this liquid painkiller that lasts 3 days. I was home and in my own bed by noon. I slept off and on all day. I haven't taken any painkillers since Sunday. The worst thing for me has been the gas pains. I've been taking Gas-x strips. I went back to work yesterday and woke up this AM with the gas pain gone. I tell ya, I've never been so happy to fart and burp in my life!

This whole no appetite thing is freaking me out. I want to eat food but I know I'm not physically hungry. I guess that's the "head hunger" people talk about. I'm kicking ass with drinking Water. I got at least 60oz yesterday but only maybe 15g of Protein.

Sleeved 9/2/14, I don't know if it was the drug regimen or my cast Iron stomach, but I haven't had a single moment of nausea. I was out of the hospital 9/3, by noon. If anyone is in the Phoenix area, I highly recommend St Luke's hospital...wonderful staff!

I had my 2 week appt yesterday, and I am down 32lbs since the start of the pre-op diet! I don't see it yet, though everyone else does (damn this body dysmorphia!) I find the Fluid intake is harder than anything so far...I just don't have much interest in putting anything in my mouth. My Dr have me the okay to switch to the puree phase, and I had the best refried Beans of my whole life! Only about 2tbps though, and my sleeve began to scream...which was actual comforting, seeing as I've been so hungry, and never felt "full" on the full liquid diet. I'm really getting sick of the Protein shakes, so I've ordered some nectar from BA, see if that is more tolerable :-)

I go back to work tomorrow, back on my feet for 40 a week...hopefully my energy will be okay!

I've been working from home this week, however maybe not the most productive. Was going to return to the office tomorrow but decided to delay until Monday. I'm a little overwhelmed/freaked out about going back to work. I also have to go back to class tonight (last MBA class) and everything feels overwhelming. Maybe because I had a bit of a set back this past weekend and I'm still not feeling as good as I was last week, but I'm just really hoping I can get it together and get back to my routine.

Hi Friends - happy to have made it to this thread. Sleeved on 9/15 and on day 4 post op. Feeling much better today , just tired. I had hiatal hernia surprise repair too. I've gotten down about 25 oz. And it's half way thru my day. No pain, nausea or fever.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
