September surgery

I am sooo shocked that doctors are okay with chicken broth.... Even low sodium has a ton of sodium.

Hi everyone! My surgery was this morning at 7:30am. I'm up and walking and have no pain at all, just some discomfort in the left side of my stomach where the drain is. I'm feeling good!!

Just wanted you all to know that it is SO SO SO much better than I thought I would. I was a nervous wreck yesterday to the point that I thought about canceling because I couldn't stop panicking and asking myself why I was doing this. I didn't sleep a wink last night and was feeling nauseous and emotional when I checked in this morning.

What I'm trying to say is that if a train wreck like me can so this, you can too. It can be aoooo scary, but my experience so far has been really good. :). Not even close to what I imagine!d it would be!

Ok everyone I need some major help here. It's day two of my 10 day liquid and I did cheat twice. 7 crackers yesterday and bread today. ???????? I bought some pudding (which is allowed for me) so I'm hoping that it will help with my cravings. Did I blow it or am I ok?? I feel like calling my nutritionist and confessing. I want to work hard and stick to it for my last 8 days. Am I ok?

Are you required to lose x number of pounds before surgery? My dr. doesn't even require the pre op diet. When I saw him yesterday and asked why, he said that it is too hard for people to do and that he couldn't do it himself if he were expected to. I am trying to do it anyway because I want to lose fat around my liver and do whatever I can to make surgery easier, but he wasn't concerned about it at all. From what I have read, it isn't the liquid part that is vital....they just give us a liquid diet because it is the lowest in calories and results in a very fast weight loss. I think if your calories are still very low you are okay.

Hey September surgeries, had my surgery on 8/25. All went well. Gas after the surgery into my chest and back was the worst part, but it passed. I too have slight pain on the left side larger incision. Some days I worry if they didn't make my stomach small enough because it seems easier than I expected. Getting in all of the Water they require is a bit of a challenge with your new belly, but it's a process. I'm glad to be on this journey and don't regret it a bit. Good luck and prayers to all with upcoming dates! See you on the losers' side. :)

Hey girl! I'm super excited and super nervous at the same time. Yesterday was the first night I couldn't sleep! I am reading a lot of others posts about starting their pre op diet, but my surgeon said not to start till the 4th. And it's not a liquid diet like a lot of others. I wonder why everybody has a different pre op diet to follow. I have to do a Protein Shake in the morning, 5oz of lean meat grilled broiled baked or boiled. (turkey, fish, chicken) and 1 cup of cooked veggies or two cups raw. Then another Protein shake for snack, then dinner is the same as lunch and then my last snack is a sugar free Popsicle. What is yours like?

oh I see what you mean. Ok. Thanks....yeah, I lost 20lbs already and the 10 days is supposed to shrink my liver. so in my mind when I chewed something I was really freaking out because I tought I blew it. ???? ok well no matter what I stick it out to the end.

wow you are very lucky! I don't understand why everyone is different but from what I'm starting to understand is that it's about very low fat intake and cal to shrink your liver. I have to be on all liquids and it's tough...but only 8 more days to go. ???? lol good luck to you!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
