Christian Bandsters

Hi Snappy!

This thread doesn't seem to get used much any more. I found it a couple of weeks ago and started trying to read through it. It got kindof ugly in the beginning of the thread so I quit reading.

Yes, there was a period there in this thread where there was some ugliness.

I did find a more active thread called Christian bandsters with a lower-case "b". Hope to see you there!

Hi,

I've been watching this thread for a long time, but like you say, not much activity lately. I'll try to find the other one you mentioned.

How much are you eating, how often, what kinds of foods? Are you exercising? Drinking enough fluids? It's not an easy journey.. lots of work, lots of self discipline. But we all lose at different rates. Don't get too discouraged. Hope our doctor has some answers for you on the 20th.

Oh my Goodness, I am so glad I found this Christian bandster group!!! I have only been on here a couple of weeks and was trying to find this!!!

I am a Christian from Texas, originally from Illinois. I am a 28 year old newly married female, and although I am sure this is what is right for me, and I want this sooo much, I know only God can make a way for this procedure to happen. I have returned to college for my bachelors degree in Psychology/Social Work, so my husband is the only one working now. Needless to say we are on a tight budget, and due to our past credit history issues stemming from school loans, getting the Lap Band surgery financed really isn't an option. My husband's work doesn't offer insurance. All of our extra income goes toward my schooling, so there really isn't anything to save right now. As you can see, I am asking God to make a way, even though I don't see a way.

So if everyone would please pray and believe with me, I know the Lord is bigger than everything, even this! I am asking for God's timing, as another Christian bandster suggested. I do believe if HE wants it to happen, then it definitely will. I ask in Jesus' name for a way for this surgery to happen. If I focus on God and his kingdom first, he will give/add all the desires of my heart!

I am facing the same dilemma as you all have. I have only been looking into this for a few weeks, and have not said anything to my husband or best friends. My husband and I are very close and open to each other, however, I know he is just going to say that we can't afford it. And I know that, but my health is priceless.

They are all slim and fit. They really do not understand what it is like to be fat and morbidly obese, not just a little overweight, or unhappy with myself. My husband thinks that if I just do what he does, then I will look like him. Which is not true.

I was kind of thinking about it this way, maybe this can help some of you too. Ok, just as the Lord wants us to come to him,

I see getting Lap band, as surrendering my self, not to food, but to the Lord, acknowledging that I am weak and cannot do it in my own self. I need more! (No diets work, I am sure you all have tried many different approaches to losing weight as well. ) I need help from the Lord.

Something else that I read a few days ago in here is that just as a mechanic has tools, this Lap-Band should be seen as a tool. I thought that was a neat way to look at it. Maybe that can help.

But another question I have been dealing with is, ok, does this mean I am doubting that GOd can help me lose weight without surgery? After thinking for quite some time about it, I no longer see it as doubting God's ability, for we all know he CANNOT fail, but WE do. I know see it as recognizing my limits, and my weight has limitations on me that I want to be free from!! I believe the Lord can free me from this as well, and I think the Lap band will be the instrument!!!!

Am I posting in the right threads? So what do you guys think?

~M

I prayed about having wls several years ago- ( I was really ill ) and I felt that God gave me the strength and desire -

I then started treatments for my illness and ended up losing 56 pounds (although still obese) I I felt since i was losing weight that this was my answer from GOd- Here I am two years later I gained back 56 pound plus and I am praying for an answer once again-

I consider the band the biblical knife to my throat :tongue2:

Proverbs 23: 1-3

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee:

And put a knife to thy throat, if thou [be] a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they [are] deceitful meat.< /p>

You are absolutley right!

Just wanted to tell you all a story. My husband relayed to me last night in dinner conversation that he is totally and utterly shocked at how well I am doing emotionally post lap band surgery. He really thought that I would be an emotional wreck right now not being able to overeat the way I have for the past ten years. Do you know my response?

God has given me everything I need to tackle this weight issue at this point in my life. ALL THE GLORY TO HIM!!!!

I love this verse too!! and.......

"I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME" Phil 4:13

Absolutely !!

I'm so excited to find a Christian forum. I live in Franklin Indiana, and my surgery date is April 30th. Monday I start my pre-op liquid diet to prepare. Christian support is so important to me. The first support meeting I went to was so uplifting. I walked in and there was an aquaintance from church that I didn't know was having this procedure done. She's doing so well now, and it's wonderful making new friends. I'm feeling so blessed, and it will be great to get to know y'all.

Hey my brothers and sisters in Christ!

I need to be REAL for a moment. I love the fact that when we came to Christ we did not have to put on any airs of who we are and what we have done nor what our struggles are. In this forum I pray it's the same.

Well, here is my short story. I got banded over two weeks ago. Things went well however, I found out that same week I was able to eat whatever I wanted and almost as much as I won't. I am a little frustrated. I get my first fill on Monday but I am asking if anyone out there has been able to do the same after surgery. They are right when they say it's only a tool because until I can feel some restriction (because I don’t right now) the Band is not really working for me. I still have hope and I believe that the Lord has directed my foot steps but I am a little discouraged I must admit. I am supposed to be on a purée diet but I find if I chew food really well I don't have an issue. But last night before I watched American Idol I was able to eat 5 Oreos with milk like I was able to do before the surgery!

I guess I am just reaching out to talk to someone who can offer some encouragement.

Thanks -

welcome DBOWERS!!!!

39FOREVER - YES!! We all (most) can eat whatever we want to before we find good restriction. Up until your first fill, it is supposed to be more about healing than losing weight. Self-control, will-power, and GOD will get you through that tough time.

Once you start getting fills, your restriction will increase. I could feel restriction with my first fill - be warned, it doesn't always stick around for long. I was getting a fill every month for the first 4 months because when I would get hungry, or could eat too much, then I went right back to the doc.

Some docs won't fill you if you still lose weight - I fuss at them and tell them it's only due to will-power and I'M RUNNING OUT - fill 'er up!!!!

You will do fabulously - give your self some time to retrain your eating habits ;)

{{hugs}} & Prayers,

Gen (wombat)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
