What did it feel like when you woke up from surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm really trying to prepare myself for my upcoming surgery next Monday.

Did you wake up actually feeling like' date=' hey, half my stomach is gone. Could you feel stuff on the inside?

Or were you just overall sore?

And I mean when you're consciously awake, not the first drugged wake up when you're still all loopy![/quote']

BriDawn, honestly it's different 4 every1. I woke up in pain for abt 10mins. By the time I got to my room I was feeling fine as I was given meds thru my IV. I saw my family when I got in my room and for the rest of that day I slept off and on. I got to my room after 4pm and I was up walking at 8pm.

I had no pain after surgery. Although I had the dry heaves for the first few hours and unto the night. Those did hurt and scared me as I thought that jerking of trying to through up would cause a leak. But it didn't. Thanks goodness.

All I wanted to do was sleep. I had a lot of shoulder pain from the gas used for surgery. Walk, walk and walk some more. Request your pain meds every 4 hours for at least the first 2 days. Don't let the pain get out of control. You will do fine! Good luck!

I was really uncomfortable from the gas & my shoulders felt really tired like I had been working them for a long time. Other than that... it feels like someone left some marks on my belly trying to fool me that they did something inside :b

I agree everyone is completely different! i woke up and I wasn't in pain I was dry in the mouth and wanted to drink but I wasn't aloud the first day so the nurse gave me mouth swabs to put little bits of Water in my mouth. But I was exstreamly sleepy I keep falling to sleep on my family when they came to visit. The only uncomfortable thing for me was the oxygen in my nose and everytime i would fall asleep blood pressure on my arm would start up again! I was a little hot and had a slight ache In my left should. Part from that recovery was fine its now that I'm home it's harder and I do get depressed sometime and regret the surgery! I try to have good days I'm 2weeks out today and I know it was for the best :) all the best

No nausea, no pain.... except that I had gas traped under my rib cage that went up through my left chest and out the back of my shoulder blade (You get a lot of attention in recovery when you wake up yelling about massive chest pain)..... I was in the hospital an extra day and the chest pain lasted for 5 days. Other tthan that, no complications... no feeling of a void in my midsection.

Again, everyone is different..... Good luck! It is all worth it.

Woke up feeling sore but not entirely terrible. Kind of like I did a bunch of sit ups. Took the morphene just to see if it would help and didn't really care too much for it, nor did I really need it. Bladder was full and I was tired. Really no big deal.

Honestly felt like i was hit by a bus! I had horrible gas pain in my back and shoulders. I couldnt stop rocking back and forth. Was getting pain meds every 20 minutes or so. I also was dry heaving alot which obviously was very painful due to my stomach just being cut. It got better about 2 days after.

I woke up soon after surgery and was in a room full of people who had just had surgery. I felt as if someone punched me very hard in the stomach. I kept coughing and had a hard time catching my breath because the pain was so intense. Most of my friends who had surgery after me didn't even remember anything from right after surgery but I did! I felt so out of control mentally and it's really made me rethink doing surgery ever again. Once they gave me the morphine my pain went down to a level 3. I just remember waking up and doing my best not to scream from the intense pain and the nurses were rushing around getting me meds and trying to control my pain. I have an extremely high pain tolerance but this pain was on a whole different level.

Also before surgery when they gave me the relaxing meds to keep me calm, I still remember EVERYTHING! I remember chit chatting with the nurses and interns. I also remember being wheeled into the operating room and climbing on the table and the anesthesiologist putting the mask on my face and me drifting off to sleep. I guess I have a high tolerance and possibly need more meds lol. Thankfully it's a distant memory but I'm not sure if I want to go through surgery ever again. I did stop my pain meds about 15 hours after surgery because they make me vomit.

Once I confirmed I was alive, I puked. A lot.

I expected it. Anesthesia makes me puke. Not much pain or gas pain.

Woke up feeling pretty good. Amazed, that the only thing REALLY hurting, was my wrist were the IV was! Later in the evening, I was a little sore, but more like I had just finished 100 sit ups!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
